This is one of those songs I heard in the early 80's when I was a kid that makes me extremely sentimental. Now, I am proud to sing this song on karaoke with my girlfriend.
During 1983 and 1984, I had the pleasure & the honor of becoming close personal friends with Leza Miller in Hollywood Calif., . We spent countless hours alone together during that 2-year period either at her place (near Venice Beach) or at my place atop the hollywood Hills. She used to sing this song to me when we were alone.... and when I look back at some of the other incredible things (and some of the crazier things) we shared together, I still find it almost too beautiful to comprehend.

Absolutely one of the greatest songs ever written. And, and make no mistake about it... no one has ever performed this song with the heart and soul that Joe Pizzulo and Leza Miller have performed it. No one! One of the greatest duests ever. Thank you Sergio for your "gift of song".
@amazingdany - I remember this song, reminds me of cruising down the street in my 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix while in high school. I'm bummed the 80's are over too. It was a good time to be a teen and young adult.
100% certain that it is lip synched. It is just a very convincing lip sync. To the comment about Miller's (the woman's) voice rising out of the mix during her solo; it actually does that in the original mix as well. I have now seen several lip synched performances from the 60's, 70's and 80's, and they are almost all outstanding fakes. The artists must have been heavily trained in this "art".

i don't think its lip-synced.. not only do the mouths + voice + high/low notes are at the same time... but u can hear when they sing the duet her voice rises in and out above his... BUT.. i think the end might be where the skeptics have an arguement..

Isn't it funny how Sergio Mendes sticks himself in the middle of the two lead singers as it people want to see the keyboard player? LOL!! Even though he wrote the song, he looks so out of place during the performance. I guess he wanted his 3minutes of fame on "Solid Gold'.

@Balerina3 In fact, many of these ballads scream '80s more than those uptempo synthpop songs that seem to be more popular among the comback crowd as these don't seem to get quite as much exposure/association compared to the faster songs and many make me cry about the '80s because it shows me how singers could really sing and not every song was mid- or uptempo! I use to confuse the intro of this song to another great tune in the early 80s, and that's Christopher Cross' "Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do)". @PwninPwn That's how the show "Solid Gold" was produced back in the 80's. Basically it was the U.S version of the U.K's "Top of the Pops"! Everything was lip synched an the short versions of the songs were used. Note that the second verse sung by the female singer is omitted on this song!

I think most things on Solid Gold and Bandstand were lip synced. It's funny how when the songs fade out they just keep moving and a fade in with applause was used to distract from it. It's a cheap way to do a song in a "live" setting. And it really should be embarrasing to the singers and musicians. If the songs had a cold ending it would be less obvious.
Having said that I'm glad that someone like Sergio Mendes was abld to get exposure on a popular music show in the 80's.
My mom was right. Sergio is good. Damn, my mom is so lucky to have this kind of music in her generation. :\

@rdwebmister You are SO correct, SOLID GOLD did do an "edit" in this song, the 2nd verse & 2nd chorus. SOLID GOLD would do this from time to time, HOWEVER, usually only during their "Flashback" segments, ie, when the song was first presented on SOLID GOLD, usually the "full cut" is used, then sometimes, weeks later, SOLID GOLD would do a repeat of that song and it's that repeat that get's hacked into and edited. So, perhaps, this video capture was done during this song's 2nd run on SOLID GOLD.

@Balerina3 In fact, many of these ballads scream '80s more than those uptempo synthpop songs that seem to be more popular among the comback crowd as these don't seem to get quite as much exposure/association compared to the faster songs and many make me cry about the '80s because it shows me how singers could really sing and not every song was mid- or uptempo! When was the last time you heard a ballad on Top 40 radio?

I was young in the 70s/80s. Had never heard this song before until I heard it on a youtube video of 10 cutest cats. This is a wonderful song, brings the 80s back.

I was 7 years old at the time too. My oh my.... Solid Gold. What a show and some of the best years of my life. I ABSOLUTELY love this song. I used to get it confused with "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" by Glenn Medeiros. I guess cuz of the name of the song. Who knows...

@honeydew369 Was this song released in late 1982? If so, then I was 7 years old myself. I use to confuse the intro of this song to another great tune in the early 80s, and that's Christopher Cross' "Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do)". As I got older, I also realized this song would change key notes so suddenly. Nevertheless, this is still a great song.

@PwninPwn That's how the show "Solid Gold" was produced back in the 80's. Basically it was the U.S version of the U.K's "Top of the Pops"! Everything was lip synched an the short versions of the songs were used. Note that the second verse sung by the female singer is omitted on this song!

I think most things on Solid Gold and Bandstand were lip synced. It's funny how when the songs fade out they just keep moving and a fade in with applause was used to distract from it. It's a cheap way to do a song in a "live" setting. And it really should be embarrasing to the singers and musicians. If the songs had a cold ending it would be less obvious.
Having said that I'm glad that someone like Sergio Mendes was abld to get exposure on a popular music show in the 80's.
