  • I sang in Manchester Cathedral in the '50s under Alan Wicks , later to be organist at Canterbury. I never heard a better soprano than Paul Goddard , compared to whom I shuddered at my own efforts! However , how do you improve without a a high standard to aim at? Thanks for this recording , and to C.V. Stanford. Patrick Smith

  • @ lustful2, you'd be surprised how many organists- and not just inexperienced ones- have troubles with piece. The best I've ever heard it played was by a 19 yr old organ scholar. My church's organist, who's been at it for over 30 years and has a doctorate, botches something about it every time.

I first sang this mag and nunc at a choir camp several years ago and it's among my favorite glorias ever! Stanford writes good stuff :) Thanks for posting!

  • Bit of a sweeping statement don't u think ? I could play it backwards not that difficult I could think of worst pieces to accompany such as the Leighton mag and nunc.

  • I can imagine this piece is not often sung, as many organists can´t play it!!

  • Brings back so many memories from my time at Ely

  • haven't sung this in while. my choir are doing stanford in c this sundayhas anyone got a recording of wesley in e mag and nunc

  • lovely! which choir does this recording? i accompanied this sometime last year for Evensong.
