  • Despite that I have arachnophobia (fear of spiders), I wish I could hold a tarantula without feeling tense, nervous, or scared.

  • @Dac719 You can do it, Rosea Chilean are very docile and will only bite if you provoke it (obviously it is a bad idea to provoke any animal) usually you want to do slow movements so you don't startle or scare the spider. Most of what I learn about insects and arachnids is very slow movements, seen guys handle European Giant Hornets without getting stung because of good handling

  • @Mightymedic101 I once had a pet pink toed tarantula, but when I tried to hold it, she crawled quite swiftly up my arm and my arachnophobia made me panic and...well, she's in "spider Heaven" (if such a place did exist) now. That said, I don't think I'm comfortable enough to have a pet tarantula. But, I would like to just hold one at a pet shop some time...if I can get enough courage to do so, that is.

  • @Dac719 Yeah I can't blame you, it is a innate fear we all have

  • Nice t man

  • "he is kinda hungry." hahah

  • aww i love spiders.

  • I'm hopefully getting my Chilean Rose tomorrow. Praying I won't get bit, as it would probably turn me of the very addicting, yet cool hobby

  • Arent they poison?..

  • @Zoza15

Same reaction as a bee sting. If allergic to bees then can be dangerous to get bitten.

Getting the irritating hairs flicked in your eyes can hurt.

  • wow i cant even get my 18 year old little brother to hold a wolfy! Nice job their dad! (and lindsey) hehe

  • ur tarantula looks very nice and thats a big step for her to take carrying it... but just to let you kno since tarantulas dont move very often if you hold them alot then theyll get stressed because they get tired very fast but anyway nice video

  • I'm scared to death of spiders, but for some reason I always found tarantulas kinda cute... it's prolly because they're fuzzy and slow.

  • @simdoubleD

I think you will be more afraid of a fast tarantula with less hair. They are usually more agressive.

  • tarantulas r very docile spiders, and mine is a really chilled out spider.

cobalt blues are the dangerous ones

  • I hate spiders, but that one seems friendly..

  • Chilean Rose trantulas are very docile and dont mind being handled one of few trantulas recomenned for handleing

  • i love Chilean Rose Hairs!!!

would love to get one one day!

    theyre beautiful :)

  • I have a Rose Hair. They're nothing to worry about.

I also have a Nhandu Chromatus, Avicularia Avicularia, and Poecilotheria Metallica. The Nhandu Chromatus is my most hostile, the Avicularia is nothing to worry about really either, although they are not fond of being handled. My last one, the P. Metallica is still a sling and cost me $250, so I don't see me handling it anytime soon, just in case something were to happen, haha.

  • he/she looks really nice. i want a chilean rose hair too. my mom s to scared to have 1 in the house and my dad thinks i wont be responsible. but i am still trying to convince them. :( great video!!! :D

  • i'd advise you to talk to tarantulaguy1976 he has great price i want to buy a pink toe but where i live they cost 80 dollars his are about 1/3 cheaper and he is a trustworthy source

  • i wear Gloves fore mine

  • you should not wear gloves

well i dont use gloves whit mine but right know and i am not kidding she attack me but it dont penetretme just leave a mark

  • grammer dude...

  • gloves are fine depending on the fabric if its like a fleece the T's little hooks on there feet can catch and if it in a bad mood it might bite but like a rubber glove or gardening glove something smoother would be better

  • thank you for the advice but i got my parents to let me get 1 and we found a very local store where it is cheap. but thanks anyway :D

  • no prob :)

  • is the venom from grammostola rosseas deadly? what are the side effects? no caresheet seems to explain the venom

  • Venom is not deadly unless you are allergic

  • can you test wether you're allergic to the venom or not? and where? because i wanna know more about these tarantulas before purchasing one.

  • I think you would have to visit an allergy specialist. We actually don't hold this one anymore because she is not so tame anymore. We do have a mexican red knee and a pink toe that we hold with no fears.

  • i wonder if that has anything to do with rosehairs in general? i have a rose hair, and when i got her she was so nice, i could hold her and she would be fine with it, but now i cant do anything without her getting angry, cant even fill her water dish

  • @REALZ11 Did she get less tame from lack of handling, or being older and getting cranky, or what? I'm considering getting one but I do get nervous about getting bitten, so anything you could tell me would be helpful.

  • @k8ee84,

I think what has upset this spider is I have a cat that won't leave the spider alone. Twice she has been able to knock the "critter keeper" over and I'm sure has stressed out the spider. I now have a Mexican Red Knee that I bought as a very small spiderling. I hold that one with no problems or fears, It's almost full grown now. If you get one with a good personality, you should be OK. Good luck!

  • @HasanRegius

If you are allergic to bees then you will have a reaction. It has a similar reaction.

They are extremely gentle. They have a fear of falling. If they feel safe then they won't be so stressed. Plus a fall will kill them. I hate seeing people walking around with one on their shoulder. It does not look cool scaring a gentle spider. So it is cool in this video how careful and gentle she is with her spider.

  • Hell no. At least not for humans, although if you do get a bite, it'll hurt and irritate for a while.

  • @HasanRegius no not at all but if youre allergic to bees you could have some problems because the venom is very alike

  • I have a female named Charlotte. Shes beautiful! I love the way Tarantulas move. The one shes holding seems set on exploring. I wonder if they get frustrated when they don't get anywhere?

  • im looking for a pet spider..., just wondering why they dont bite/sting?

  • they only bite if they feel threatened.

  • i love seeing kids taking that step most kids are terrified cus alot of there parents are scared so they feed off of that it suxs in a way but thats why theres guys like us lol to introduce them to these great things

  • since i was born i was never afrid of bugs or animals

  • I conquered my fear when I was 2, and I'm as old as your daughter now.

  • tht one was well active :P wen i held one it just sat still:s

  • HEY!!!thats my shirt!!JK u gave it to me after you posted this video!!!!luv y7a linds!frm meggy

  • I'm sure them biting is a last resort, but I have read they are very fragile. I'd be more afraid of dropping her.

  • Yes, they are fragile. That is why I only allow them to be held while sitting down on the carpet.

  • do they bite? what happen? no hablo ingles.soy de argentina

  • bueno yo ablo espanol bueno pues

  • yes that is true, dropping a tarantula can be deadly to them, and for these kind of tarantulas its a very harmless bite, i have one that has bitten me before, and there is some pain but not to much.

  • thats really awesome :)

i think that the bite i can handle. im just worryed that if my chilean rose DOES bite me, that ill accidently throw my hand p and send her across the room :) so i dont hold her anymore :) i dont think she minds :)

  • lindsey looks very comfortable holding her

  • I just bought a female rose hair, do their bites hurt and are they easy to get used to? I haven't held mine yet.

  • I have not been bit so I would not know. But imagine to large thorns being driven into your hand. We actually do not hold ours too much any more. He/She is a bit skittish now. If you have not held yours, I suggest you take your spider to someone who has experience and have them work with you.

  • ... and here's a question. I've had mine for almost 4years and I couldn't never pick it up.

literally /pick/. How do you do it?

From the back? From the front? From the upside?

    :S :x

  • I don't actually pick up my spiders, I allow them to climb onto my hand by using an object to herd them out of their cage. Then I handle them as shown on the video.

    Good luck!

  • hmhmm ... and they don't get pissed/violent for being forced out of their calmness?

its not unusual for mine to go "attack position" when messed arround :s

  • You do need to be cautious. If the spider turns around and goes into attack mode then leave it alone. I do not hold ours as much anymore for the same reason. The spider has been tormented by a young cat that we own which I believe has stressed the spider out too much. We also have a young Pink toe and a Mexican Red knee we hold much more often with no problems. If you start with a very young spider, it could be much easier to get used to holding them.

  • Getting close to her is beeing dificult as hell ...

She striked me twice (in different days): - one time when I tryed to herd her to my hand (she stryed the hand she was suposed to climb to) - another when I tryed to touch her on one of the back legs while she was on upper ground.

anyway, what surprised me the most is that she bolts towards the hand - which is frankly scary as hell - but don't bit and retreats imediactly after ...

    is this normal?

    also...is there any forum/place to T lovers?

  • ok you can hold it many ways, some worse than others,

usually you will "shoe" it onto your hands from the cage, some people perfer to hold it upside down but that can be very dangerous if you dont do it properly, and if you were wondering how i know lol i have a tarantula as well.

i hope i could be of some help to you today :)

  • How old is your tarantula??

i am going to be getting one soon in about a week, they dont bite or anything do they?

  • yeah they bite.

its like two fish hooks stabbed into your hand.

but they barely bite. very docile.

  • aren't they venomous?

  • They are venomous but it is not toxic to humans unless you are allergic (like bee stings)...

  • Im gettin a female rose hair next week :)

  • its a female..

  • It's a girl!! the male ones have a smaller abdomen, and they also have spikes on their front legs(for mating purposes). males also have small glands on the front two small legs(pedipalps) the glands are also for mating purposes.

  • im getting a rose hair for my birthday!!i love em!!im getting a female!!^-^

  • i am impressed with your daughter holding this spider verry brave :)

  • i have respect for you cuz im trying to get over my fearsof spiders and so far its working with my bestest best friends help.So hopefully i be able to hold one but for now i think ill wait a while.

  • my tarantula is way smaller...

  • I have a male Rose Hair.

  • That was very brave of you. We have only just got our Chilean Rose and we are now hoping that she won't mind us holding her. Trying this today so will let you know. Her name is Maggie and she is still very young.

  • I have respect for her....I couldn't do it

  • Cute tarantula!

  • See how at 00:10 the tarantula uses thier pedipalps to grips, and push onto something? The pedipalps are the small two front arms next to the chelicrae (fangs).

  • iv never heard of any one been bitten buy a chilean rose i dont think they will un less u realy threaten them

  • Oh no, they do bite. I was bitten by mine when I tried to move it, but that was befor I knew she was in premolt. I couldn't tell because there was no bald spot. She did have a successful molt. Anyway, you're doing really nice! Holding the tarantula when sitting on a carpet is the best thing to do when handeling these!

  • they bite if they feel threatened i have mine and ive been only bitten ones in 4 years. it dint really hurt but you need to stay calm even if they do. i woulndt recommend handling them too often tho.

  • wow linds is holdingthat terantula its awsome

  • Oh my goodness. Wow Lindsey. That's rude John. He is Kinda hungry. They don't bite, do they?

    Love ya,

    Anne
