  • I <3 <3 Megan sooo much she is my idol. She should have won this year too I think. but hey the judges opinions count not mine :(

  • @Sanchara In no way shape or form did Megan deserve to win this year. Nothing against her, but I saw every single performance from warm up to last dismount. She wasn't up to even this performance (many reasons, one being injury) and the sport has progressed so far since this. She did very well considering what happened and should be happy with her placing, but she got what was right. However, I believe Mary deserved 3rd and Andreani deserved first. (latter is a little biased) :)

  • @vaultingdiva I agree about Andreani: three words: layout full twist. and thats just the dismount.

I definataly think Mary should have medled. (again a little biased because she is my other favroite) She did have the highest freestlye score so perhaps if she focus on her comps she will be the next World Champion.

and I think from a technical persepctive you are 100% right. But everyone wants to see their favotites win lol

  • @Sanchara she remains a beautiful vaulter and a vital part of US vaulting but she didn't show what she was capable of. In this video there isn't a hint of nerves and in my opinion I saw a lot of nerves this past year. (again, rightfully so)

  • i can barely do a freaking cartwheel.....on the ground!! O.o

  • I vault and once you get the hang of it and get in the the rhythm of the horse you can de virtual anything x

  • Megan is good, but If you look at her vaulting scores compared to the other girls and not their horse scores, she wouldn't have won, the only reason Megan won is because of her horse Leonardo which she apparently bought moments before she performed...So without the horse scores, the other girl would have won...

  • @VezzosoVaulter But you have to take into account that she still had to do a flawless routine on this new horse. And she had to be extremely balanced so Leonardo could still perform his best.

  • @VezzosoVaulter it's a horse sport: the horse score is just part of the game.

  • @VezzosoVaulter Horse scores are always very tricky to deal with, one on hand it is a horse sport thus requiring a score, but sometimes can feel a little unfair. Megan had been practicing on this horse for a long time and he is indeed hers. :) Megan is great, especially at this time in her life, and I haven't seen most of the other performances but it does pose an important question; to what extent should a horse be responsible for the outcome? I don't agree with some 2010 WEG placings either :(

  • @vaultingdiva horse score is worth 20% of the overall score. I think some of the most complained-about horse scores at this WEG were actually pretty fair. Don't get me wrong I love draft horses and I think that they make awsome vaulting horses. But by vaulting on a draft in an international competition you are choosing to throw your horse score in favor of higher dificulty and performance. That being said I think there were a few horses who were clearly misbheabing who should have been deducted.

  • Loping is only ever a term I have heard used in western riding-every other style I have heard use canter.

  • I really do not see the point of horse vaulting. Jumping, dressage, eventing etc, yes - as these disciplines require great skill by both horse and rider. I even like gymnastics, again great skill, but what is the point of doing it on a horse? Its poor stuff compared to a floor routine. Just totally pointless.

  • @missyme1010

Vaulting is a great sport that requires skill from both the horse and rider. Only one horse is needed thus it cost less and gives children a greatter opportunity to interact with horses. The horse are much loved. Vaulters are judged on their harmony with the horse . The point of vaulting is to have fun, meet new people, and do the best you can. Vaulting is very structured with 4 rounds of competition. Vaulting is beautiful to watch! I hope that answered your questions.

  • Yes this explains it better NaomiVault. I can see how it would give children a good opportunity to interact with horses and I'm all for that.

It still wouldn't be my thing, but if the horses are happy and the kids are enjoying it, then its a good thing x

  • @missyme1010 I am glad I could help explain it! If you have any more questions just let me know. Vaulting is often hard to imagine having yourself, or a loved one, doing but it is incredibly fun and one of the safest horse sports since the horses are all trained with a specific lounger (the person in the middle) and are very well tempered and of course loved.

  • what is the point of trolling?

  • yea but its twice as hard on a horse.....you should try it sometime!!

  • Thanks but I'll stick to show jumping and dressage, far too old for that kind of jumping around x

  • disagree! Unless you're over 56 then I have proof you can do it! We have a mom who started at 47 and is now 56! She started because her kids loved it so much!

  • @vaultingdiva my club's founding coach got up and did his full comps in canter on his 70th birthday :)

  • @missyme1010

If you see no point in vaulting then you must see no point in any Equine events. What is the point of Jumping, Dressage, or even Eventing? What is the point of gymnastics? These are hobbies for the pure enjoyment of a bond with a beautiful creature. Obviously you are too full of yourself to see the true challenge and companionship of this sport. If you see a point to gymnastics, why not this? This requires more talent and a bond with a living object. Rethink what you just said.

  • I can't believe how oblivious the horses they vault off of are! it's amazing! they really seem to like it. or at least understand it. :)

  • I work, ride, and teach summer camps at Garrod Farms. It's a great ranch.

  • amazing!

  • :32 ia my riding instructor

  • lmao vaulting is cool and all but notice how all their horses have the slowest smoothest lopes ever i'd give em' props if they tryed that on my horse, but until then...yeah its not the best hahaha

  • They're supposed to be going at a slow steady pace.....

  • lope? wtf... Canter.

  • lol...

  • haha.. lope in the western world

  • Lope in America, to correct you there :)

  • wow thats really over reacting.. who cares if its lope or canter???!!!!!

  • Wow, that's really even more over reacting to 3 words of sarcasm, or do I need a sign...It's interesting how the human brain can create such vivid images of what it wants to see out of just 3 words.

  • what are u talking about???!!!

  • I do vaulting, but im not as good as she is. but my goal is to try

  • wow thtas really good! :::)

  • I met her she bugs me

  • Her horse was across the stable from the one I took care of at Garrods. She's a perfectly lovely girl; I can't possibly fathom what bothered you about her. Regardless, this is not the place for a comment so unnecessary. Please keep your negativity to yourself, thank you.

  • i apologize for my negativity but i was in a bad mood and she hates me.

  • omg, u ride @ Garrods? Is it in California and have a vineyard too?

  • I rode there until I graduated high school and went to college. From the sound of things, I'm guessing you ride there ^.~

    It's a lovely farm.

  • nope...i just know the place...my friend used to have a horse there

  • what a good horsey!!!

  • the music is "Breathe me" by Sia. It has words

  • HOT!

  • what music is this? please reply if anyone knows!

  • aus welchem soundtrack ist ihre musik?

  • This woman and her horse were incredible. We were at WEG for the dressage and bought some vaulting tickets, though we'd never really seen the sport before. I looked at the scores, and this vaulter led throughout the entire competition, with both her AND horse, Leonardo garnering the highest scores for each and every round(there were six judges, three judging the equestrian only, and three judging the equine only). This sport is the next USA gymnastics or ice skating!

  • I KNOW MEGAN!!! her horses name is Ronan!!

i have taken care of him with my friend!

  • I got to do a clinic with Meghan last summer and it was totally amazing, she is really, really awesome, and her horse deserves the same credit, I have been vaulting for about 2 years, and it was soo cool to be taught by her, even though I couldn't do much it was spectacular.

  • does anyone know what the music is at the very end??

  • it's a euro-techno version of numa numa

  • a few days ago i was jumping some small verticals and my horse took off a stride early. i realized i was falling halfway over the jump and and decided to jump off instead. i landed perfectly on my feet. it was hilarious!

  • MY NEW RIDDING STYLE - vaulting!!! i really want to do that someday... my instructer always says that she will bring a vaulting saddle to the next class but she forgets every time... I really can't wait until she actually brings it because i really want to learn!!!

  • Shes Really Good.

I Didnt See Her Use The Stirrups At-All..

    Correct Me If Im Wrong,

Her Mount And DisMount Were Very Good.

Ive Done The Bit From About 54 To 58.

  • umm, there are no "stirrups" in vaulting.

  • Clearly Ar,

Plastick OneZ Either Side Of The Horses Tummy Which You Use For HangZz And ThingZ.

  • Technically, they're called "cossack loops," but 'stirrups' is the general idea. :)

  • I Know What I Mean Lol,

Well I Didnt See Her Use The Cossack LoopZ. Haha.-VaultingDiva Stick That In Ya Pipe And Smoke It.

  • their called "cossak loops" but most people call them loops or stirrups.

  • wow... great!

  • the backwards dismount remount was good :) i used to vault.

  • I had a go on my aunties vaulting horses but i didnt like it!!

I'll just stick to dressage and show jumping i think!

    She is really good tho!!!

  • to the person below me you dont do vaulting in trot only in walk and canter

  • In some countries, such as the US, many vaulters will compete at the trot before moving on to the canter. I did for 5 years!

  • um acctuly pretty much no one does vaulting at the walk cept 4 like 3year olds! most people do it at the trot or canter. a lot of european countriues and the US do trotting vaulting and never do walking vaulting. where r u from cuz where ever it is its one strange place.

  • Any vulter starting starts at walk, wether they are 5 or 55. I vaulted at trot for two years before moving to canter. True, and Europien teams go from walk to canter, I even know a team in the US that does, but MOSTLY everyone progresses from walk, to trot, to canter.

  • I Just Went Staright From Walk To Canter. Trot Is Very Uncomfortable.

  • It is uncomfortable, but it is actually very benificial to get used to the bumpy gait. I am a canter vaulter with a bronze level medal, and we even use the trot when we are working hard standing combinations. The bumpy trot forces you to go with the horse and makes the canter look easy. To improve basic seats and stands we ask the horse to go from trot to walk and back up again until it dosen't bother us.

  • Yeah, I don't know who thought vaulting at the trot was a good idea, except that it's good for practicing some things. Once you get the feel of the canter motion, it's much easier. I also got my bronze medal commended, and on a new horse I hardly vaulted on. :)

  • Only canada and the US and Australia have trot classes. but it's not an english trot, it's a western jog.

  • Australia does not have any trot classes. We compete in Walk/Walk, Canter/Walk and Canter/Canter. Some E grade Canter/Walk vaulters who have not yet mastered the mount at canter will mount at trot (but i think they get points taken off their basic seat score).

  • lol, I made that comment before I competed at CVI Sydney. ^^

  • **edit**

Only North America has "trot" classes and the trot is more of a western jog.

  • Australian vaulters compete at walk and canter.Instead of trot, those between walk and canter do their compulsories at canter and their freestyle at walk.

  • I did vaulting at a trot! 3 years! What makes you think you know anything about vaulting!?

  • @kd1111cool At our state vaulting competition we have a trot class and are considering more

  • wow that was a stunning routine

ive been vaulting for a year now and am only doing stuff in the trot and learning my b compulseries!that flank off was amazing

  • It wasn't flank, it was a no handed catrwheel, but yes it was great. I think all vaulters can learn from Megan, she has a truly outstanding style. I did a teaching session with her and it made a world of difference. I was sad it was only on first three comps, I think she could have helped my Kur a bunch too. (BTW this was her winning Kur from WEG 2006)

  • I vaulted a little at camp but I wish I could do this stuff! ur amazing!

  • Wow, Megan you make me wish I hadn't quit! I remember years ago...god, must be at least 9?? We needed a fourth for a 2 phase team with Evergreen and you jumped in and saved the day. Region II championships... we were both beginning canter! I don't even think beginning canter exists in vaulting anymore! Congrats, that was amazingly beautiful.

And people, the hose is fine. More than fine, vaulting horses are pampered like gods. How much to your supplements cost?

  • I had a clinic with Megan, and it was amazing. I learned a lot and I hope I can some day compete at her level.

  • u had a clinic with Megan?! u r so lucky i just started 2 yrs ago and i can't even imagine doing what she is im trying to load a video of a vaulting demo i did 12-2-07

  • It's sooooooooo beautiful

  • that was awesome i'm a vaulter too my couch her family broute vaulty into canada she awesome

  • and daddieslittleprincess13 is right, it would buck or atleast it wouldn't let her get on if it were in pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whoever said that the horse is in pain is a total retard. the horse had absolutely NO signs of pain in its back legs- it just had a beautiful canter!! obviously you know nothing about horses or dressage in particular, because that canter is an amazing dressage canter!!! this girl and horse are absolutely amazing!!

so please dont post comments on you tube that are total bull.

    xo.

  • :) Congrats Megan!! Really amazing. Very smooth and just plain uber-awesome!

  • it might looks like you are landing very hard on the horse, but thats one of the most important things in vaulting.. dont cause the horse pain. land softly.

i've been vaulting for almost 3 years. it really sucks that really no one knows of it XD

  • i dont vault. but i think its a really cool sport, coz you got to learn how to do two things, ride a horse, and gymnastics

  • Now is the time for all of us horse lovers to step up! Thousands of horses are being slaughtered right now in the US for human consumption.Even Racehorses and pregnant mares are killed. USDA studies show over 92% of horses slaughtered are healthy and 3 out of 10 contain unhealthy chemicals.

  • So0o0o0 cool and amazing. I <333 the horses!(:

  • daddieslilprincess is right you know LNtheAmazing. The horses are trained to do a slow steady canter at the same pace constantly. Its just a well trained horse and a talented vaulter ^_~

  • horse in pain?? its a vaulting horse its been broken in to do this. its not in the slightest amount of pain im a vaulter too. if the horse was in pain he woodnt have held such a frame or lunge. he woodnt have let her vault on him!

  • that is kind-of cruel b/c you can tell the horse is in pain by the way its back legs were move -they are moving right but the pruformance was great

  • that is just mind boggling to me, i have NO idea how they do that! i never could in my dizziest day dream!!

  • wow that's awesome. I wish I'd been exposed to vaulting when i was younger. I can't believe the stupid comments people make on here about this hurting the horses. Obviously they don't know horses very well or they'd be able to tell that horse was far from mad or hurting- no pinned ears, no wringing tail, no limps.

  • I Love To Vault And It Never Hurt Aliby of mack

  • Wow I just wanted to say how crazy it is that I just randomly found this! I had my horses boarded at Garrod through high school and I watched the vaulters running around every day since I was 10 haha it's CRAZY to see Megan all famous and stuff on youtube. I was like, can't be the same Megan... AHH yeah that's some good old Mt Eden pride welling up. I'm getting a lil teary hahaha =)

  • they do groom the horse! its the weg!!! Good lord people!!

  • i feel bad for the horse those lil monkeys jumping on my back would drive me nuts!!! I would buck em off. They probs dont even groom a horse cause they smell to bad.

  • ?? nopt sure your comment even made sense, but if the horse didnt want people on its back it would buck! I ride horses to I do jumping, and trust me if they dont want you on there theyll let you know! and of course they groom the horses?

  • uh, r u even ahorse person?duh they groom him, and duh, teh horse is a trained vualting horse.

  • dont make dumb comments, of course they groom the horse, and no, vaulting does not harm horses in any way, these horses are especially trained for this, in fact they bearly even feel the vaulter on their backs, since the vaulters are really light way and they are aware of what their doing, so nex time think twice before posting a comment.

  • And that is the one thing that I will NEVER EVER be able to do in my life. I'd fall off. No, I probably wouldn't even be able to get ON the horse. I truly have alot of respect for anyone who does vaulting.

  • wow, mooie voltige

  • Wow she's amazing just think how much training she has to do...

  • Oh, wow... Where can I find Megan?

She and I were friends in Hawaii (Kona Village) years and years ago. I still have a great photograph of her in her first year of vaulting.

    Megan, I miss you!!

  • Megan is such an amazing vaulter! She has given inspieration to so many people, and her vaulting shows what the sport is al about; grace, harmony, and oneness with the horse.

  • like her name megan....hehe great job vaulting....

  • wowieeeee!!!! drafts are awesome and so are vaulters! :)

  • how the bloody hell do they do it - its too amazing! =] =]

  • my god i felt so sorry for the horse when she did the big jump and landed back down on its back... but god yup pretty amazing to watch!

  • don't worry, megan knows how to land softly on the horse, so it doesn't hurt. :)

  • She's really amazing.

  • PS Leonardo is treated like a Prince, he roams free, enjoying his life not so much like a Ronin, but he certainly is very well cared for and definitely eats well out of his Tubbs. Leonardo is actually a famous horse now, not quite an international Diplomat or as famous as Gucci or Pegasus, but he could certainly give Amadeus a run for his money. I must bid Udo, I mean adieu! XOXO

  • you sure know your Mt. Eden horses well ;)

  • Aww, you're the best. Just so everyone knows, I love this kid. ^

  • Every time I see this video I get a little tear in my eye. Watching Megan do her victory lap in the stadium was truly inspiring, and for just a moment, I felt I could realize my own dreams. Thank you Megan for continuing to be an inspiration.

  • Yeah, that was supposed to appear below your comment, Mr. Guimarin. Such a clever Princetonian... what would I do without you?

  • yer i agree with sazzy925 and i work with horses all the time. sure enough they get time to kick and let some steam off in the field. i can c ur point about them just being used so there owners can show off bt it takes ages to build trust between the horse and rider for the horse to let someone do that on their back. believe me if the horse didnt eant to do it it wouldnt!

  • beautiful!

  • Horses should be out & free as the wind not stamping ground for their owners to show off

  • yea but cool

  • It's not like it's all the time. The horses get their free time, it's not all showing. And you could say that about any animal hamsters, dogs up to chickens and cows, that's the way life is always going to be.

  • They are domestic animals. They enjoy being aruond people and interacting with us. What's wrong with that?

  • I love her name! ( it's mine too) Your horse looks so happy and calm! My horse would spook. That's amazing vaulting, So you ride and do gymnastics? Very different intake on jumpers and hunters (what I do) That's so awesome!!

  • great vid. what a horse to canter so steadily in a circle with someone doing those things on his back. brill

  • wow, she is an amazing vaulter (i don't know much about this sport:d) but from spending alot of my time with horses i can tell this Leonardo seems quite happy, if he was sore, Im sure Megan Benjamin would know about it :D

  • Hi Megan, the rest of us realize that this horse is obviously well cared for and has an ideal job. he looks calm and happy in his work. He is truly lucky to have a loving family and a great job. Sorry that one person made such an uninformed comment. I worked to find homes for injured racehorses and THAT'S where the real problems are.

  • beautiful... but i can only imagine what that is doing to that horses joints... hours of cantering on a circle, hocks can only last so long...

  • Hi, this is Megan, and I think it's funny that my mom is posting comments. Vaulting is an elite equestrian sport, part of the FEI, and in accordance with FEI rules and regulations, the horse is our primary concern. We actually only "canter on a circle" for about five minutes a practice, and we only vault twice a week. All other work is dressage and trails, etc. That routine was 1 minute long. Leo's hocks are just fine.

  • You'r kidding right? This horse has it MADE. This is a slow, steady, easy job. Check out the cross country event, look at the entire race industry instead. This horse will be perfectly sound for a LONG, LONG time. Many racehorses are lamed for life by age 4! MOST other activities we ask horses to do are harder on their joints than this.

  • I would think that other equestrian sports like eventing, dressage, showjumping, western games, foxhunting, endurance, racing (did I leave anything out? I didnt mean to if I did) would be very demanding on a horse's joints and back too. If well cared for and worked carefully those effects can be minimalized. Good vaulting horses are hard to come by, Im sure once one is found hes treated like gold.

  • yeah they really are treated like gold, we have a stallion that we vault on at the farm, its like, one of the most precious horses there apart from the ones with regular tv jobs.

vaulting is so unbelievably hard! i can stand in trot =]....just

  • this was gorgeous. i was a bit surprised she won, since her kur isnt as hard as kathi faltin's, but then again her form is almost flawless.

  • She won the technical portion of the event by quite a wide margin, as well as the compulsories portion. Maybe we should post that as well?

  • That was unbelievable. I've tried vaulting and I can barely stand up at a stand still much less a canter. I just wonder how thick that pad is cuz when she jumps, she lands on the weak part of his back. I hope it won't cause any problems for him.

  • Part of elite vaulting is doing very difficult moves, including jumps, and landing very gently in the horse.

  • That's good. It's hard to tell in the video which is why I was wondering. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

  • gee I wish I could do that

  • beautiful horse... looking for one like that to jump
