We haven't been back because there isn't a reason to justify the cost and risk of sending men back. They would have been back if they planned to build a permanently manned base or mine the moon for resources (neither of which could be achieved by the Apollo program), or if the USSR got there too and hence forced the USA to continue. But of course, where there's a void, it will be filled, hence stories of alien bases & artifacts :)

@RavenPrecept - I believe I've discussed that with you in the past, were I pointed out that the USSR landed two rovers during the Apollo years, Lunokhod 1 & 2 which both featured retroreflectors. Hence as I said at the time, retroreflectors ALONE doesn't prove man landed on the moon, but it's part of the evidence that supports it. In contrast, the luner modules together with the rovers, scientific equipment, astronaut footprints and tracks etc, are proof man was on the moon.

However it is proved to me that some of the footage was shot in a studio therefore invalidating other evidence. That man went to the moon is not something I can prove to myself. Take any big budget non-CGI sci-fi film and series and notice that no matter how many planets or spaceships they visit, they are almost always under either earth gravity or zero gravity, never 1/6th G, or 1/3rd G, or half G etc. So how is that is NASA are suppose to have achieved 1/6th G so easily and perfectly in 1969 using just wires and slo-mo?

The only truly difficult parts of a mission to the Moon is getting out of Earth's atmosphere (a la Challenger) and getting back in (a la Columbia).

Independent Japanese and Indian orbiters have photographed the areas in recent years and provided third party proof. Unlike the Manhattan Project, the Apollo program was public from it's inception, and the Soviets monitored it throughout, including radar tracking the missions all the way to the moon. The moon hoax theory is hollow. Sorry! ;¬)

Who have opponents who want power for themselves. Conspiracies require unanimity of desire, and that does not exist. Over 400k people worked on Apollo in the US alone! @RavenPrecept - I believe I've discussed that with you in the past, were I pointed out that the USSR landed two rovers during the Apollo years, Lunokhod 1 & 2 which both featured retroreflectors. Hence as I said at the time, retroreflectors ALONE doesn't prove man landed on the moon, but it's part of the evidence that supports it. In contrast, the luner modules together with the rovers, scientific equipment, astronaut footprints and tracks etc, are proof man was on the moon.

@RavenPrecept - We couldn't 'pretty much fake anything' until the arrival of CGI. Hence no-one has recreated Apollo's 1/6th G to the standard seen. Take any big budget non-CGI sci-fi film and series and notice that no matter how many planets or spaceships they visit, they are almost always under either earth gravity or zero gravity, never 1/6th G, or 1/3rd G, or half G etc. So how is that is NASA are suppose to have achieved 1/6th G so easily and perfectly in 1969 using just wires and slo-mo?

The only truly difficult parts of a mission to the Moon is getting out of Earth's atmosphere (a la Challenger) and getting back in (a la Columbia).
We (as a species) do that almost monthly! (Perhaps a little less now that the Shuttle program has closed down and only the Russian's launch manned space flights). Hell, we have a bunch of people living in a low Earth orbit!
Once you're out of atmo, shot to the moon is a relative piece of piss. Only time (hence, supplies) that you gotta sort out.

When you actually think about the distance of 250,000 miles in relation to where we sent the Rover to and have sent other probes, it's not that far. China has published a set of impressive high resolution images of the moon, which show the moon in never-before-seen detail. And yes, evidence of the Apollo landing is in the shot.
The images are huge, at a resolution of over seven metres, and were taken by the country's Chang'e-2 moon orbiter.
The first images of their kind, they were released by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND) on Sunday Feb 5, 2012.

Not cheeky, no. You said in a previous comment that you didn't know anything. A jury decision is a group opinion based on facts presented. We can disagree with that opinion, that's the purpose of an appeal. There will never be a perfect society, but we try hard to set in place checks and balances to give the opposition a form of redress. To simply dismiss the edifice as being in the grip of a powerful elite ignores the drive for fairness that underpins true democracy. It's fatalistic.

But, can I ask you, just how much evidence will be enough for you? Laser returns, physical samples, personal testimony, Russian observations during the missions, Japanese photos of the landing sites only a few years ago. Independent verification, basically. How large does the conspiracy need to get before you think that maybe your doubt is misplaced?

I don't think Brian Cox is an idiot, but that comment strikes me as daft because no-one could seriously deny that the USA exists but it certainly isn't AS certain that we went to the moon. Maybe we did, I don't know. I do know that governments are capable of secrecy and lies. The Manhattan Project involved 1000s of people but compartmentalisation meant that no-one knew about it. Who knows? Nothing would surprise me :)

@hollowmoonmusic It's not really idiotic. He used that example as something that is beyond doubt to illustrate how far beyond doubt the moon landings are. Independent Japanese and Indian orbiters have photographed the areas in recent years and provided third party proof. Unlike the Manhattan Project, the Apollo program was public from it's inception, and the Soviets monitored it throughout, including radar tracking the missions all the way to the moon. The moon hoax theory is hollow. Sorry! ;¬)

I personally believe the 'space race' was phoney and part of the phoney cold war. But that leads to much wider debate about deep politics that is constantly debated on forums and is essentially just a personal opinion based on the reality I see, but I don't know anything...

@hollowmoonmusic I just think that the notion of a grand conspiracy credits governments with far more control than they have. All governments are made of Parties. Who have opponents who want power for themselves. Conspiracies require unanimity of desire, and that does not exist. Over 400k people worked on Apollo in the US alone! But evidence is independent of desire. Expanding the conspiracy in light of evidence is akin to finding gaps for God in the shrinking holes of our knowledge.

It seems to me that there is a left/right, red/blue puppet show orchestrated by the wealthiest interests on the planet in order to give the illusion of freedom/choice. Sure there might be small power struggles within that, but essentially like any crime family model an individual only has power to the extent it is metered out by those at the head of the organisation.
