I was an assistant crew chief of plane 554 stationed at Ton Son Nut and Phang Rang from Feb 1967 thru Dec 1967... Great Plane. Could do remarkable things...
Sorry to hear about your father Extrakatana... I was at the base at the time he died.
Who shot this? John Nightingale? I am Lt.Col. Earl Strong's son, JT (Jim/Tom/Tommy, depending on who in the 777th, 776th, 426th, etc., knew me). Earl was the commander of he 1st Sqdn of C-123s that deployed to VN. These are the 1st flicks out of VN that I've ever seen. My curiosity is killing me: is Earl in, or the pilot in, any of these scenes, if so which? If you know who I am, knew Earl, or know anything about these flicks, PLEASE let me know: norejt@cox.net. or Blastjet444@yahoo.com.
Was a mechanic on these old birds....1964/1965. Ton Son Nhut AFB (Saigon). Flew many missions. I'm going to the AF Museum at WPA in September. They have one on display.
I built props for these birds (Not the ones in the vid.. well.. maybe) NEver got to fly in one, but sure overhauled a lot of those sludge pumps... HEavy HEavy Square tip blades and a super huge PRop Hub make you respect this plane without even seeing what the actual aircraft looks like.
