Let's bring these races back, During the Depression the Hearst Castle was built using cheap labor.... Let's put the Jobless Wall Streeters , to work nailing strips together building on to the future of Board Track Racers!!!
@eyeinthesky325 For saftey reasons it's a non starter. The wood availble today is crap. There is NO trained much less skilled labour force to do the job...so it just wouldn't be safe for the racers.
@GrigoriZhukov That is because today it would all be made in tiawan! Our skilled labor force has been crushed br "cheap labor" and very few men today know what its like to work with their hands. america has become a sellout of douchbag politicians!
wow, what a great piece of footage and wow is it clear and easy on the eyes, what detail indeed. The 1921 precursor to AMA superbike at daytona. Think of all of those boards. Have you ever had the feeling you have been born in the wrong time? LOL PEACE!
This footage is awesome and incredibly clear. I am so grateful for the abundant preservation of racing history. My dad, Frank (fallguy) Hetzel, (died in 1984) raced and built bikes, midgets, sprint cars and modifieds all his life. ABC Brewing Company bought him a JAP cycle and he raced with Jack and Cordy Milne. Jack and I became good friends, as well as the boys from Costa Mesa fairgrounds. I showed my dad's scrapbook to Scott, Kelly and Bruce... I am so proud of the gears in my head!!!
I've raced speedway, and seen 'em slide flat-trackers at Pomona and Del Mar, but this is like THE "balliest" racing ever! Don't think too many of today's single-minded prima donnas would dare tackle those banked walls...and BOY were they banked!
And remember: as the t-shirts at Costa Mesa used to say, "Brakes are for pussies!"
the bandaged Burns, posing on his bike, smiling to the camera. While the “Shrimp” looks for all the world like nothing could stop him, just four months later the 22-year-old daredevil of board track racing would lose his life on a track in Toledo, Ohio
So awesome!!! I want to know what degree those banks were .. Anyone? Reminds me of Daytona!! This really is spectacular footage! Thank you and where's more?!

According to an article in the Huffington Post, the board racing track in Beverly Hills was located where the Beverly Wilshire Hotel now stands.

I'm shopping a completed boardtrack race screenplay on inktip.com right now ("Track Record"). It would be fun to see brought to life!

Awesome. 100+ miles an hour without a helmet only to crash. Insane.
