  • Two things to say. First @KingHaggis you have perfectly understand what is a good spacesim game, and I totally understand how happy you were when discovering this game. I also discovered it a few days ago.

Second, your video is perfect. You put the fingers on essential points of a SpaceSim: Beauty of planets and wandering in a huge universe. Each shot you make is perfect to show those points. Great job.

  • @gfamad thanks! I hope you like this game and spread the word! :-)

  • The music and scenery is beautiful. I love the way that planet shot passed when orbiting. When i first played Elite i came out of the spacestation and a massive ship went right by me without trying to kill me. It was then i realised this game was bigger then i thought. I used to hyperspace into the middle of nowhere , then cruise to see who lived out in the dark forgotten parts.(ps alot were not friendly). I love what you've done here. I'm getting excited again for this great game.

  • @stoinge Thanks! I agree, the Elite series and Pioneer are unique and atmospheric games. Exploration in a massive universe should be used more often in PC games. Instead, the major gamestudios and publishers give us stupid boring, moneymaking linear games that serve as graphic demonstrations. Space exploration FTW!

  • Dank je wel

  • All my scenery seems to be at night in the dark.Am I doing something wrong?

  • @sherwood49523974 There aren't any "blue skies" in Pioneer during daytime on planets like Earth but there are definitely day and nightsides on a planet. If you are landed or docked in a spacestation you can speed up time and watch the sunrise. Or just take off and fly to the other side of the planet. During daytime, you will still be under a starfilled sky though... I hope we'll one day get to see better atmospheric effects in Pioneer.

  • @KingHaggis what is the controls?

  • @MrCaioable Press ESC while in game. There's a tab somewhere where you can set your own controls and graphics. Many ship functions can also be performed by clicking the icons in the cockpit screen.

  • I was just thinking that somebody should make a new game in the spirit of Frontier again. In fact, I have some ideas on how to add a whole new level of depth to the gameplay. It's awesome to see people are actually working on bring that magic back again.

  • How to activate damn AUTOPILOT??? In Frontier it was easy.

  • @NexussVI just press the autopilot button or use F4 key, then select a target from the drop down list. Or select a target by clicking on it (i.e. a distant planet) directly from your cockpitview and then use autopilot button or F4.

  • This is NOTHING compared to Infinity :Quest for earth. If you wanna see a AWESOME space simulation game, check that out. Its jawdropping.

  • @Shmucko21 Infinity showed a lot of promise but as far as I know there's a big chance we'll never get to see it.

  • @KingHaggis D: you just crushed my dreams.

  • @Shmucko21 yeah...I'm sorry. I hope I'm wrong, though... :-(

  • @KingHaggis Don't worry, you are wrong. ;D

The best point though is that this is on github which means we can not only "play" it, (I don't really call something I'd done in a game like Elite, playing... different strokes, I suppose) but we also can develop it in any way we can, and that means a lot.

Thanks for the vids, you're featured on my channel.

  • @nazaxprime thank you :-)

  • @Shmucko21

yea but you will be waiting forever for that my friend, this you can play no :)

  • David Braben isn't the creator of elite.. he is the co-creator. Frontier was his.

  • @jacksawild You're absolutely right. Maybe I should have been a bit more clear about that in the video. But I'm sure most Elite fans will understand... Usually it's considered "David Braben's Elite series". I hope I did not hurt your (and Ian Bell's) feelings. If so:

MR. BELL (and all others who helped), I'M SORRY I DIDN'T MENTION YOUR NAME! WITHOUT YOU THERE WOULD BE NO ELITE!

  • @KingHaggis My feelings remain intact. There is a big dividing line in Elite fandom between Braben and Bell and I, as you may have guessed, fall on the Bell side. This game does look awesome, however.

  • The only ONLY space sim (except elite) where you can fly through the planets' atmosphere. Why have no other space sims eg: Freelancer, allowed players this freedom? I Hope Pioneer continues to completion.

  • @johnm9billion exactly my point of view :-)

  • I would like to play this game, is it for sale in store or just online and how can i get this I love space and would like to play.

  • @HEAVYGUNZ05 just go to the official website and download the latest alpha version, watch the first minute of the video for the downloadlink. There are 3 versions: Windows, Linux and Mac. Needless to say: if you have a Windows PC, download the Windows version, for a Linux PC, download the Linux version, etc.. You need to extract the file once you've downloaded it. Use your favourite tool (i.e. Winrar) to do this. Have fun! If you like the game, please visit the forum and join the discussions!

  • I love the Elite genre, but cmon guys, the graphics is totally rotten compared to todays technology. Please patch! :)

  • @ezeben that wasn't such a nice comment. You should know, this game was made by a hobbyist in his freetime and the game is now being updated by a team of talented volunteers. They do this for free, for our pleasure. If you think you can use todays technology to improve Pioneers graphics, then please contribute to the project. I'm sure we can use a good programmer or artist rather than somebody who makes comments about the "rotten graphics".

  • @KingHaggis Hey! I`m sorry for my comment. I really love games like this and i guess i was just a little disappointed thats all. I will definately give this game a go when its finished. Peace! :)

  • @ezeben I'm glad you like games like this. Remember, gameplay is more important than graphics. Besides, I don't know of any similar (playable) game with better graphics. And even though I find the graphics quite nice already, I think the graphics will be a little better in the future. The game is still in early alpha state. The latest alpha has better looking cities by the way.

  • you should make the Iphone App!!!! An awesome simulator like that deserves it :)

  • They need to make the game installable like any other game. Downloading and tweaking 8 or so other programs to "build" or "compile" the game is ridiculous. I was looking to try the game, but I won't be able to since the developers don't care about the end user.

  • @Darkrift777 That's the first complaint about installation I've heard. Downloading and installing Pioneer is very easy. I'm not sure what you downloaded but just go to the Pioneer main website and go to "download". There's a file called "pioneer-alpha15.7z". It's 165MB or so. Just download and extract it and you're ready to play by clicking the pioneer.exe file. It couldn't be simpler. If you need help, I'll be glad to answer your questions. Please try again, it's a very nice game :-)

  • SUPERB JOB!!! I LOVE IT!

  • How do you jump into hyperspace? How do you get fuel? How do you tell how much fuel you have? plz help!

  • @superotherguy1 You have to have hydrogen fuel in order to make a hyperjump. You need to select a star from the starmap that's within jump proximity. Once a suitable star is selected, a jumpdrive icon will appear. You can either click it or press F7 key to start the jump sequence. You can tell how much fuel you have onboard through the ship/status/inventory icon, or F3 key. You can use the Autopilot (F4) to travel to a selected target. Basically, all you have to do is study the icons a bit.

  • @KingHaggis Thanks, is the hydrogen for everything or just jumps? Also selecting a system is a bit buggy for me, am I the only one who sometimes has to recycle from were I am and my target so i can get the F7 jump option?

  • @superotherguy1 Errr.. maybe it's the new alpha version but the starmap has not yet given me problems. Hydrogen is mainly used for jumping but it can also be used for trading. If you have a military jumpdrive you don't longer use hydrogen but military fuel. A Military drive takes up less space in your ship but has the disadvantage that it leaves radioactive waste after each jump. You can dump this waste in space & risk a crime penalty or you can leave it in a starbase for a small fee.

  • Wow, just wow. I hope the final version is the best it can be!

  • Thanks for the heads-up on this game. And very nice use of Vangelis/ Blade Runner soundtrack.

  • @tommyzDad thank you, I hope you like the game as well :-)

  • Most. Amazing. Game. Ever.

  • i love this game so much its endless ive only done a small fraction of what the total game offers im scared...

  • Wo\/\/....mesmerizing.....

  • Love this game, been checking every day for updates. Also I'm terrible at dogfighting.

  • @wubble78 Yeah, it's very exciting to have a freeroaming spacesim that's free to use and is being updated on a regular basis.

  • Thank you so much for bringing this game to my attention. Of all the years I have searched the net for a remake of Frontier I can't believe I have never come across this game and its free!!! The graphics and spaceship psychics look amazing. I shall offer my support to the developers and encourage them to contine. I am downloading this game as I type this message. I am chomping at the bit to explore the universe in this game. Again many thanks this is beyond awesome.

  • @DLiberator78 Thanks! I knew you'd like it :-) This game was meant for die hard spacesimfans like you and me. We've been left without a proper freeroaming spacesim too long.

  • @KingHaggis Indeed. I have been going cold turkey for a follow up Elite type game for years, they say the closest is Eve Online but for me nothing comes close. I am lucky enough to still own the 8-bit Elite on the Acorn Electron and ZX Spectrum with the dreaded Lenslok. I also still have my Amiga A1200 so I can still play Elite Frontier to get my fix. I tell you back in the day I lost so many hours playing Elite Frontier, this game is looking so promising, great for us die-hard fans.

  • Oh and buy the way I am loving the Vangelis music that accompanies your videos, you have great taste in music. I have liked Vangelis ever since I heard his soundtrack to Bladerunner my favourite movie of all time.

  • I really do pity fools writing crap like 'gay all u do is fly around'... this game IS about flying, in the first place. Secondly - vast, open, dark space is a thing that makes u feel really tiny in a helluva gigantic universe.

I have played Elite 2 Frontier for many, many hours, now i will surely follow every change in process of creation of Pioneer.

Thanks for astounding video&audio. Keep up the good thing!

  • @lickweedkewl thanks! If you want to try the latest releases, download the work in progress builds by Robn. Visit the Pioneer forums, the game needs enthousiasic spacesim fans like you.

  • gay all u do is fly around

  • @asdfGeist LOL, that's the most brilliant comment I've ever read. Thanks for contributing :-)

  • Nice atmospherics at 8:37

  • The music is amazing whoever uploaded this. Is this music from the game?

  • @falkerhard no, it's Vangelis music from the Blade Runner movie. Though a lot of the music from the Blade Runner soundtrack was never in the movie itself...

I'm glad you like it. Pioneer now has very nice music of its own. Download the latest alpha to check it out. If I ever make a new Pioneer movie, I can use the ingame music. It's that good!

  • just found this vid and love my elite, iam so downloading this alpha version right now, thanks man, going to be busy flying and trading like in the good old elite times

  • Most relaxing video on You Tube - will be back soon! :)

  • @HardWarUK thanks :-)

  • @HardWarUK Earth moving music

  • Wow amazing it looks so good shame my pc is crap.

Maybe when everyone gets bored of FPS games we can have some beautiful space sims again.

  • @ King Haggis

Just dropped by to look at this beautiful video again for the umpteenth time. It's still my favourite despite being based on an early Alpha. Was it Alpha 3 you used King Haggis? Pioneer now has reached Alpha 11 (at the time of writing this) and just keeps on improving. The ship models have come on alot too and tons of improvements have been done under the hood of the game. I hope you will do another video in the future, perhaps to celebrate the first beta? ;)

  • @Miggy4000 Thanks for your kind words :-)

Yes it was alpha 3 I believe. If you look closely at the text in the planet info map @1:43 you'll notice that it's misaligned. That was a alpha 3 bug. The last version I played was alpha 10 with a nightly build by Robn. I've been away this weekend so I had no idea alpha 11 is released. I'll try it immediately and hope they've added the nice new cockpit skin. I think I'll make a new vid in the boring autumn/winter season. I've got too much to do now :)

  • Holly hell! I have just dowloaded it, and want to make a donation. I have waited for this for years and years. Keep it up, then release it in the shops, on all platforms. You will become millionaires...

  • This is so damn beautiful I had to post twice :( I hope this gets finished. I doubt it, but if it does...

  • @ImperatorZed I'm glad you like the game. Pioneer needs all the attention it can get to make it even better :-)

  • I cried watching this. With tears.

  • two things, I wish you had made this with the Unity3D engine/SDK, so it could be ported to both Mac and Pc with same code. Secondly, later it could get to the iPhone/iPad and Android from Unity if you bought licenses.

Last thing, I hope you have considered to build it as a MMO game somehow? would be fun to make a flyby with each other online. UPS! was that EVE Online ? :o)

  • @BerggreenDK you're welcome to visit the forum for more information and discuss your ideas and ask your questions. The more attention this game gets, the better. I'm not a developer, I'm just a fan :-)

Thanks for your interest in this little gem of a game!

  • I'm crying tears of joy, this is my dream coming true.

  • @Gyzyn it's okay to cry because you're right. It is a dream coming true for a lot of spacesim fans. I hope more people will find this game and start playing it. The project definitely needs talented volunteers to make it even better. In the mean time, go ahead and cry. You've earned it after so many years of waiting for a decent spacegame :-)

  • @KingHaggis I've found another decent space sim Evochron Mercenary, life is beautiful.

  • @Gyzyn LOL, yeah. That's a fun game too! Especially because it makes so good use of my X-52 Pro joystick and it has a 3D cockpit if I'm not mistaken. I played the demo, maybe I'll buy it some day.

  • I noticed a polish text in there... Anyhow, the game looks great, though most of the climate is a really wel chosen music :) Vangelis and so on :) The star port was not very nice. What this lacks is a mini add-on with sim city like rules, so that playres can setup their own cities on the planets and connect them. This would, in time, create phenomenal effect. If there was an editor allowing to add your on building types... whoa... imagine that :)

  • It is nice to hear polish language

  • @KaneCyborg yes, someone who commented on this vid said it's from a Polish poem or something. I had no idea, I just liked the music hehe :-)

I hope you like the game as well.

  • @KingHaggis I believe name of this poem is "Meeting with mother" (spotkanie z matką) Konstatnty Gauczyński. I just downloaded the latest version of games. Thanks for vid :-)

  • really liking that music from 2:05 ...is that from the game?

  • @GarethWonfor no, it's music from the soundtrack of the 80's sci-fi movie Bladerunner. The music for the movie was made by Vangelis but I believe this particular track is a bonustrack on the CD which isn't made by Vangelis. I could be wrong though...

  • @KingHaggis - Thanks for the tip off, I looked it up and it is by Vangelis, it's called 'Spotkanie z matką'

  • My heart skipped a beat :o :o :o :o :o DOWNLOAD FASTER! AHHHHHH

  • So in trying to play the newest release and familiarize myself with the keys i discharged my weapons and the police killed me. I started over with teh same wanted level and now every launch i'm greeted with police lazers ? can this be reset ?

  • @rayyf69 hmm, that one's new to me. I've only played the new alpha for half an hour now without fighting. Usually every new alpha release fixes a huge amount of things but also introduces little bugs, hehe. You'd best go to the Pioneer section on the forum at spacesimcentral dotcom and ask your questions.

  • @KingHaggis I actually resolved teh issue when i cntrl-q quit the game and restarted. Do you know if it's possible to put yourself in a stable orbit around a planet and how you can even know if your are in one?

  • @rayyf69 Yes, you can do this manually or with the autopilot. First make sure you have an autopilot equipped. If not, buy one. Then select a planet, press F4 and tell the autopilot to go to that planet. You then have 4 options: move to vicinity of planet, enter low, medium or high orbit. There's also a money cheat that will help you get more out of this game. Since it's not really in a very playable state yet, nobody will blame you for using this cheat. Pressing Control + M gives free money :-)

  • @KingHaggis Damn thanks kinghaggis, very helpful stuff. Have you seen that other game that looks somewhat similar called infinity which is pre-alpha i believe but no playable demo :( . Looks really good but i'm skeptical something like this will be playable anytime soon. watch?feature=iv&v=3muhlQYFgLE&annotation_id=annotation_613300

  • @rayyf69 yeah, which spacesimfan hasn't heard of Infinity, LOL. Their website states Infinity won't be finished any time soon because they're focussing attention now on selling their engine. Doesn't mean it's cancelled, a.f.a.i.k., the programmer guy will continue work on Infinity on a regular basis. It has been delayed nonetheless and we will probably not see Infinity soon. But it'll come and when it does, it's probably going to be awesome. But right now, Pioneer rules!

  • This is great work by the way!

  • @AlxFitz Thanks, you should try out the new Alpha 8. It was released today and looks and feels even better.

BTW, if you have ideas or suggestions or can even contribute models or whatever, feel free to join the Pioneer forums at spacesimcentral dotcom and help make this game even better.

  • @KingHaggis Will do, cheers!

  • I'd like it if you could recruit some wingmen in a Frontier style game, and also be able to have a home base in maybe an asteroid (like the hermits in the original Elite) where you could stock weapons etc.

  • Every time I try to land on a planet, I end up dying.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • @superbeastguy Try using the autopilot for landing at a city if you have trouble doing it manually.

  • this is a remake of elite 2 but .... if u read the website it was completly programmed from scratch tis fully open source so u can edit the code it is already well beyond where elite 2 ever went

  • Man... I... I'm sheding tears of joys.

    That video makes me happy.

I've been waiting for a good Elite successor for years, and you just...

    ...thanks, man!

  • that looks cool. elite was an amazing game.

  • Do we need the original files of Elite II to play this legally, even though it says "Free Software" at the bottom of its website?

  • @Bammer2001 you don't need Elite II to be able to play this game. When you say "legally" I'm not sure. I think there's nothing illegal about Pioneer. It's not payware and it's not called "Elite" or "Frontier". Besides, the game has even been mentioned on the official Elite forums and Frontier developers have read the posts about the game and this video and were enthousiastic about the project so I guess there won't be any problems.

It's just a nice fan made tribute. Braben should be proud :-)

  • @KingHaggis I hope he is. We won't have Elite IV until later, anyway. Thanks.

  • @KingHaggis pioneer was coded from scratch its open source the code is a new writing it looks atm like ffe2 alpha 8 is out in a few days but the game is now moving beyond the original, fuelless jump drives, under 1 tonne modules new ships, new star maps

  • I tested it and all looks like FE 2 with much more better graphic, but its hard to play because of lots of game crashes :( Even on saved games so game is unplayable at this moment.

  • @7BeAsT9 What OS you running? The Alpha your playing is probably one that I compiled and about 2 other people have reported the same thing. Try this workaround: If you Die or Have to Load... make sure you quit the whole game and restart, then load the game. That *should* work. Please let me know if that wors for you.

  • I like idea of remaking frontier elite II cuz there is no similar modern game not even announced.

  • You have a little diamond in your hands here. Keep it moving. ^^

  • Great video

  • 02:26.... so beautiful, breathtaking...

  • Oh, breathtaking.

  • Be sure to check out Evochron... Mercenary is the latest version. This appears to have better planetary graphics, though Evochron's spaceships look a lot more realistic.

  • @fearguis Yes I've played Mercenary a few weeks ago when the demo first appeared. Like Legends, it's a very atmospheric game. I love the 1st person freelook and advanced controls (especially with HOTAS joystick & Track IR support). I found Evochron lacking in other areas but Pioneer isn't perfect either. With a little work both titles will become very good spacesims eventually. Right now I like Pioneer for its beautiful space environments and realistic scale. Evochron gameplay is better a.t.m.

  • That is just breathtaking. I would love to play a finished version. And single player is just fine :)

  • @quadturbo4 thanks :-)

  • What are the system requirements?

Will this be an MMO with monthly subscription? Or just single player game?

  • @HavenRaven I don't know what the future holds for us. You should ask the creator of Pioneer on the forum. For now, it's singleplayer only.

System requirements are quite low but a decent graphics card with shader support (at least shader 2 I believe) is more or less required. You can switch off shaders in the config file though, so even with a low tech GPU the game should run. My AMD laptop with 8400GO GPU runs the game on low/medium settings. My i7 GTX480 PC has no problems with max settings.

  • What's the music? Do I hear polish voices?

  • @RapaFan The music is Vangelis. It's from the soundtrack of the 80's sci-fi movie "Blade Runner". I don't know what the child says in the beginning and after a while there's a man saying something which may well be Polish. I don't know, maybe somebody from Poland can verify.

  • @KingHaggis Yes, it's Polish. But it's hard to translate it because i can't hear every word clearly. What's the title of this track?

  • @xagog not sure, I think the 1st track is called "Launch Approval", the second with the polish voices is "Spotkanie Z Matka" I believe. I'm not at home now so I can't say for sure.

  • @KingHaggis It's excerpt of the poem "Meeting the Mother" by Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński. Here is a translation i found in the internet:

    wwwDOTvangelislyricsDOTcom/vangelis-blade-runner-trilogy-lyrics.htm#SPOTKANIE

  • @xagog Oups, looks like that previous link is not working, so: wwwDOTvangelislyricsDOTcom/vangelis-blade-runner-trilogy-lyrics.htm .You just need to find it on the list:/

  • I am gathering opinions. How does everyone think this game will compare to Freelancer or Darkstar One or X3?

  • @HavenRaven I personally think this game is better, although it's not much of a game yet. The games you mention are much more polished and were created on a high budget with a much larger team of programmers and artists.

But none of those games give you the same sense of scale that Pioneer does. Space really feels like space in Pioneer. Dark, cold, endless. And big 3D worlds you can actually approach and land on. If more gameplay is added Pioneer will definitely be better than those games.

  • @HavenRaven but I don't think it will be as popular as Freelancer and the X-series. That's the curse of indy development. There's no money to advertise and a lot of gamers simply don't even know the game exists. That's why I hope Pioneer will get the attention it deserves if enough people download and try it.

Besides, the creator of this game isn't even trying to make money out of this game, he just does it for fun so it deserves all the more credit and attention.

  • @HavenRaven also keep in mind this game isn't for everyone. It's not a fast paced action shooter but features newtonian physics so you'll have to spend a little bit of time to get to know how it works. I'm sure a lot of gamers will find this a dull game but those of us who are die hard spacesimmers and adventurers will be thrilled with all the possibilties Pioneer offers. Especially considering exploration! AFAIK, no game currently available offers the same amount of exploration as Pioneer does.

  • Silly question: what about space combats? They were very enjoyable for me in the original Elite for Spectrum, but not so much in Frontier (only one enemy at a time) ...

  • @lozanomarbella a.t.m., combat is about the same as the original Frontier Elite 2. I just find the enemies a bit dumber. You can escape from them if you just fly by them and set course to a planet. In the original Frontier and FFE, they would hardly let you escape, usually you'd be dead before you could hit the throttle. But Pioneer is still in alpha and it's continually being improved. You can compare it with Frontier & FFE. Sometimes you're surrounded by enemies, sometimes only 1 attacks you.

  • They should also add the ability to get out of your ship, buy a plot of land, build a house, and plant some crops to harvest. Then, you marry someone, have some children, and raise them on the farm.

Finally, after a little while, you die and your kids bury you in your own land. It would be the perfect game.

  • @iphoria you bring tears of joy to my eyes.

  • @iphoria Theres a brilliant game that does this already, its called life.

  • @nado2s hmmm. "life" you say. where can I get this, so-called "life" that you speak of.

  • Eve economy, politics and warp drive with these graphics (when polished) and physics (sub warp) is all im wating for!

  • @Aspartame69 yeah, me too! And perhaps the ability to get out and explore on foot. Or unload a buggy or other vehicle from the cargobay of your spaceship. And there should be the ability to build your own little miningstation on a planet or asteroid so you can mine for minerals. And there should be more traffic. And there should be volumetric clouds and during daytime, the sky should be blue and not filled with stars. And I can think of 1000 more things.

But I get your point and agree! :-)

  • I don't get it.. How do I play it? I start on earth, undock and let's say I want to go to neptune, how do I get there? There should really be a tutorial or something :P

  • @Kvokki it works practically the same as in Elite but since you probably haven't played that game, I know it's a bit confusing. Pioneer works with newtonian physics, just like Elite. It's not a regular flightsim. For tips and tricks, go to the Pioneer forums, I'm sure you'll get a lot of help there. Youtube is not the ideal place to explain it all to you but I'm sure that if space exploration is your thing, you're going to love Pioneer, so just give it another go :-) It's not that hard.

  • @Kvokki but in short, you switch labels on and off with F8. This way, you can see Neptune's name in space if you look in the right direction. Then click it and you can fly there manually by pointing your nose in the direction and adding thrust with Enter key. Speed up time to get there faster and brake soon enough (Shift) so you won't crash into the planet.

Here's a quicker way to get to Neptune: target it by clicking the mouse on its name, then press F4 and choose: fly to vicinity of Neptune.

  • @KingHaggis Thanks for the answer. Is it possible to trade and buy new ships? How do I get into another solar system, or go to another arm of the galaxy?

And how does the hyperspace drive work? I managed to get it working once, and I popped out somewhere... Please answer these if you don't mind. :)

  • @Kvokki yeah, you can trade at stations like the one you just launched from. When docked at a station, use F4 or click the phone icon in the bottom to connect to the tradenetwork. You need hydrogen to power your jumpdrive. When you have enough hydrogen to make a jump, go to the starmap, click a star within reach (within the blue circle around you), return to your cockpit view (F1) and click the hyperspace icon bottom right to make the jump. When you run out of fuel your jumprange will decrease.

  • @Kvokki when you've jumped to a different starsystem you're usually somewhere on the edge about 10 AU from the central star. Look at your planetary info screen to find the planet you want to visit. Usually you the info screen tells you which planets or moons are inhabited and have starports. i.e.: when you're in Alpha Centauri, planet Bh is inhabited. Then turn on labels, find the planet by looking at it from your cockpit, click it, press F4 and tell the autopilot to travel to the vicinity.

  • @Kvokki and if you're too far away to be able to see the planet, travel to the main star first. When you're close enough the name of the planet you want to visit will pop up eventually so you can select it and set a course for it. The name of the planet you want to visit usually has the letter of the star it orbits in front of it. This is especially useful in binary or triple systems. i.e. The planet Alpha Centauri Bh should circle around Alpha Centauri's second star (Alpha Centauri B).

  • Wow. I've been waiting for Infinity for a while, but this game looks amazing too. Finally, I can explore planets seamlessly until Infinity is released! If none of you know about Infinity, it's a space combat simulator that features a procedurally generated galaxy with over 200 billion star systems and up to over 1 trillion planets and moons. It has seamless landings, trade, combat, corporations, civilizations and it's a massive multi-player online game. infinity-universe(dot)com.

  • @XxC0NDEMNEDxX Thanks for your comments, yeah, I know about Infinity. In the mean time, I'd rather see Pioneer getting some more attention. Have you already tried it? It's not quite finished yet but it's very nice exploring the galaxy. And new versions are being uploaded often :-)

Plus, it's not MMO so that means no monthly charges.

  • @KingHaggis I tried starting the game, but all I get is a black screen. I'm not sure what to do. I have Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 redistributable and I launched the executable file, only to stare at a black screen and be forced to use ctrl+alt+delete.

  • @XxC0NDEMNEDxX I noticed it doesn't work on my old laptop either. Maybe you should ask Tomm on the Pioneer forum. He may have a solution.

  • @KingHaggis I'll try that. I really want to try this game soon. It's the closest thing to Infinity I'll ever have until that game is finally released.

  • All we need now is a random procedural city, roads, vegetation and weather generator :P

  • @Probellum LOL, you got THAT right! It would make the perfect game. I hope one day it'll be a reality. A free roam space simulator where everything is possible. With a huge living and breathing procedural galaxy full of high detailed 3D planets, complete with civilizations, intergalactic warfare, trade, exploration in space, on the surface, in futuristic vehicles, on foot, just everything must be included! Ah, one day I hope!

  • @Probellum Oops I thumbed your comment down and I meant to thumb it up.

    Your comment- Perfecto.

Add those features and we have a winner. It won't happen tho lol

  • ZOMG!

My eyes popped from the sockets and jaw dropped to the floor!

    I'm in pieces!

  • awsome!

  • @kooner911 thanks :-)

  • GReat, looking for something the same for a long time since no signs of David Brabens Elite 3

  • SpaceSimCentral has a dedicated forum for Pioneer.
