  • awesome playing by young Weissemberg

  • @Joseflhevinne what do you mean

  • a sangue freddo

  • When a piano plays like an orchestra sounds like this. Thank you Maestro.

  • RIP

  • Rest in Peace, Mr. Alexis Weissenberg

  • This is absolutely incredible cinematography paired with world-class playing (whether it's to your taste or not). Stunning to see and hear.

  • Thanks so much for some of the coldest, bloodless playing ever and he died last Sunday, may he rest in peace. I saw him several times, extremely pleasant but the face of a cold fish...

  • @pinkled42 Strange comment! Obviously you have not seen Moiseiwitsch perform, you would not like his "face" either! What does the lack of facial expression have to do with greatness in pianism? You probably love Lang Lang's facial "warmth" and his facial contortions not to mention the jumping up and down on the bench! That is very very fynny!

Alexis Weissenberg was one of the greatest pianists ever, an immense artist and musician who played with total feeling! May he rest in peace.

  • @pinkled42 it's the face of Peace and Oneness. Listen

  • rip

  • Thank you for sharing this. Very strange yet lovely. I liked the black and white and the dubbed sound!

  • While this is pure Weissenberg tonally it's doesn't seem to have the same fire and passion in another rendition I have seen here on YouTube. But then this isn't a performance. It is a music video where the cinematography higher on the scale. It does reminds me of some of the 20s/30s films I have seen.

  • Weissenberg is one of my favourite pianists.

The cigarette being stubbed out is edited out of the DVD on Medici classics.

The cinematography is amazingly inventive, but i can relate to the person who describes it as 'cold and pretentious' - -like those numerous Karajan films,it feels too controlled.

  • I've heard another recording, here on youtube, from him a lot more "spontaneous". This sounds amazing, but a little artificial. I prefer the other version.

  • OMG! the swedish commentary is soo funny!!

weissenberg is amazing! the only pianist who ever managed to interpret the first rachmaninoff sonata properly!

on petruchka i prefer gilels, weissenberg makes it sound a bit too easy, i miss the tension and musical struggle,,,

  • When i saw it, i though that this piece easy. And I tried.

    And i...failed :|

How could he play it so easily?

  • strange performance

  • @New4785689

other than the odd tone, i recall this was an extremely edited performance gathered from 2 weeks (?) of footage and a lot of playing
