yeah, you can "appreciate" how fast some dude can move his hands back and forth, but the real talent and skill comes in when you try to put rhythm to it and make people nod their head, or even dance.
i dont understand how people can diss this. rafik's style should be a prime example of real turntablism. whats great about his style is the consistancy of rhythm, and head-nod ish in combination with supurb fader and record skills. no where in his sets does he lose rhythm. alot of djs ive noticed lose complete interest in rhythm and being able to jam, and just focus on how fast they can beat juggle and cut on the fader. taht shit gets so repetative and boring.
I can see how some people dont like rafiks Style (or really the newer style of battle dj'ing)
But this is where the Evolution of Turntablism has gone to. I like it, shits hella tight.
I love and can tell the difference between the 90's era of battling as well. But to diss rafik? If you dont like it than thats kool. I dont like Ballet, but can appreciate the skill and devotion though.
i dont know man, i mean it's a wicked routine but i dont think he should hold the titles, he only scratchs with one hand and both sets were pretty much the same.
and if you check out Merge´s myspace, he names Rafik when it comes to peole who influenced him concerning turntablism... so wreckstylz210, obviously IEmerge doesn´t worship Rafik; moreover, it is the other way around...
Wrekkstylz210, better post up your scratch session, boring as fuck! And by the way, Rafik has had that style since 2002-2003, Merge came up in DMC 2003. Rafik lost 2003 ITF and 2006 DMC mainly because of skippage, was INVITED to QBert's Spin The Battle (Merge wasn't), has more titles than most DJs and is, what, 23-24?
iE.Merge is fucking ill, but has his limits. His style is very in-your-face, but he is not THE BEST...
Check out Tigerstyles, Pfel and Woody. Do your homework.
By the way: IEmerge´s 1st place in the DMC world finals in 2004 was a joke, he took the crown that should have belonged to Rafik, and that is what all the experts say, you heard me? Just because IEmerge was destroying some vinyl in the end of his routine (which obviously should say: "Look at me, I´m such a gangster"), some judges voted for him to be 1st.
I think we can tell it's you that worships i.Emerge. Rafik's set in 2005 totally shoulda got 1st. Merge's 04 set was awesome but 05 was not on point at all.
Rafik didn´t compete in the 05 DMC´s, but he became first at the ITF´s... but the other point you mention is right: IEmerges 04 set was ok, his 05 was just weak... check his routine for the guitar centre world finals...
GOD DAMN!!! That was terrible. I hope that was some spur of the moment type shit because I'd hate to think that he actually practiced being that shitty. I've pissed patterns in snow that made more sense.
haha, die amis können mal wieder überhaupt nicht verstehen warum die Deutschen so gut sind!!
Don´t be jealous guys and pleeeze shut up if you have no idea what a good dj set is sounding like. Because this is one and I don´t think anyone can do better. Maybe D-Styles is on this level, maybe Netik and others too, but this smooth,VERY clear technic is hard to find. Propz
yea bro , ha ha ha ha haha.hes a fuckin dope dj.hes european so he has a different vibe.and hes not letting the vinyl do all the work.god you people are ignorant
Is this available to buy? This was the last ITF World Final, wasn't it?
