I can't believe that they are mad at the dog for eating food they left out when they could simply cover it or put it on a higher counter. The cat would be the first thing I'd get rid of. Sure they are cute but they crawl all over everything and can get into the cupboards and shed on everything. To top it all off they shit in a box in your house.

@luc649 I know. They step in kitty litter, which has cat PISS and SHIT in it. I visited my mom, and she lets her cats on the counter. I asked her if she felt it was sanitary, because that's where she prepared the food, and she said it was okay because the cats only stay on the one side. The next day, I showed her a picture of one of her cats standing on the cutting board. You know, on the side the cats don't go on. Yeah.

I had a Bouvier that was totally uninterested in what was on the counter. EXCEPT at bed time, after we'd all gone to the bedroom, he'd make an investigative swing around the kitchen and anything that was on the counter was HIS--even a covered butter dish!
When they're so VERY stealth, it's hard to remember to clear the counter before leaving the room for the night.

@minowekay Oh yeah I hear ya, same thing with my dog and the butter dish. He even goes up real carefully so his nails don't scratch on the counter-top and make noise. He also pulls out drawers with his mouth so his treats I gotta keep high up.

@JerFhilm I'll count my blessings--my Bouv never learned to open drawers! But he was NOT careful about scratching the countertop. He has been gone for 3 months now and I STILL take care to clear the counter, even after I realize there's no longer any need to. Fear of his ghost? Or maybe just to keep in training for the next.
