I think your second chart is not impulse. If that kind of impulse happens in this time, the price'll go higher that your "cycle B" because it's an overlap pattern. May be I'm wrong cuz I can't see the real price so clearly (because of your red lines)
It should be just a truncated ZigZag. Let change your "iii" to "A" and "iv" to "B"

What i seem to find confusing regarding the elliot wave is when exactly do you know the down turn if in a position to buy?....Do you wait until 'c' begins to peak and then assume this is the start of the upward move (or '1' in terms of the upward movement)..I suppose the issue then is when do you judge that this is infact 1 and not another part of the a,b,c down turn!
This guy seems to know his stuff, but from a novice/junior trader perspective, I stopped watching this halfway through- it rambles too much and doesn't really convey the knowledge clearly and applicably for new traders. I don't agree with the title per se. Still, will bookmark it and come back to it again later.
John, thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. The principles of mathematics and physics in life is virtually the language of functioning of the natural phenomenon. We as mankind are able to communicate regarding its phenomenon with these tools. EW is one of these tools.
We are gaining the knowledge/mathematics that indicate the fourth and fifth dimension at the moment.
Unless you have used the elliot wave for trading you have no idea how powerfull it is.It is not bullshit as described above but a very accurate trading tool that all superior traders use. Learn it and profit
what about the australian dollar right now against yen? Is it in that dangerous "middle zone" you mention - as its half way between all time highs and all time lows?
Do you use it only in a trend reversal / counter trend sense after spotting the five wave count and then trade the ABC Pattern. Or trade trend continuation in the lower timeframes post the ABC pattern? It'd be handy if you highlighted a strategy for its application.
@biocybernaut Tnx John. Best coverage of elliot ive seen esp the real time scenarios. I do struggle with identifying the complex waves but this has helped hugely. Well done.
@biocybernaut Perhaps like me you were looking for an absolute defined way to make money. That doesn't exist and I have found this version of explanation to be the best so far on EW's. John explains it very well, unlike most he incorporates real charts and I think he gives a very good, user friendly commentary. Your stuttering and Bullshit references are uncalled for.
@48collie - thanks - I'm glad you liked it. I am very pleased that over 50,000 people have viewed it - but no idea how it got to be so popular? JOHN - johnpiper.info
Does Elliott Wave accounts for markets that just stay in a trading range ?? It all looks good and accurate when market is Bull or Bear, but at least in intraday trading mostly the market bounces in a trading range.
Yes I agree, it's as accurate as flip of a coin. But can it beat the darts or the monkey stock picker? I don't mean buy whatever the monkey picks. Use market sentiment to determine market direction.
More analytical hocus-pocus, same classification as as palm reading. Maybe head lump reading is more accurate. I see a flag waving at me saying this guy is full of himself like most analyst. Yup, it's in the ABC flag.
@celyl if Celyl had done any research to back up the comments they mught be of interest. But why would he/she do so - it is hocus-pocus. Sadly without any research the comments are just the same. Personally I trade Elliott every day so I KNOW it is useful.
I don't use Elliot Wave Theory but I enjoyed the video and would like to experiment with it. I trade the eminis thru the day and enjoy the experience. My indicators are very simple and mechanical. This was well presented - thanks
The problem with the Elliott Wave is that it always fits all historical data perfectly, and there's always a reason for all "surprises". It's like a pseudoscience in the sense that it can't be falsified, everything is perfectly explained by the theory, but when it comes to predicting events, it's really quite vague, and ultimately doesn't offer a lot more than, "the market will go down at some point, after which it will go up again." Timing is EVERYTHING.
@axe863 - science has to do with measurements, reproducibility.. Ratio Analysis brings the wave count into objective credibility (read Ch. 4 EWP book, or check Robert Miner's work)
This video is called "A Short Guide to Elliott Wave Theory", but is in fact a long rambling jumble that is not a "guide" at all. You should change the name of this video so people searching for a proper guide will not waste their time struggling through this mess.
good vid, but I agree you ramble on at the end, we dont need to know about your past trades and how much money you missed out on, happens to everyone, should, woulda, coulda!
and by that theory alone we should place faith in the ability for markets to find the right value. my eyes are rolling if you couldn't guess. the theory is so loose and nuanced that it doesn't hold much weight. the rules are broken on every one of his examples, to such a degree where little to no profitability can be assured. elliot wave and fibonacci in my experience hold a lot of truth. the problem is they are confined to a world dominated by randomness and chaos. used alone, they are folly.
