  • my surgery is oct 27th, wish me luck :/ oh basketball how i will miss thee

  • @jumpjet88 how did the surgery go? I probably will have to have it when my growth plate closes. It could be a while though. Did it hurt after the surgery? Thats all I'm worried about.

  • this injurie is way too common , and it kills the love and passion you have for your sport.... pathetic

  • im afraid to walk down stairs now lol

  • My Orthopedic Doctor said my ACL seems fine but, the carthlidge lower around the bottom( i forgot what its called) might be sprained or hurt or something, could it be bad?

  • I torn my acl on march 9 2011 playing basketball it hurt like motherforker and now I having surgery on june 17 2011 :/ wish me luck guys. Is it hurt after surgery ? I want it know.. Plz?

  • I torn my acl when I was play basketball I feel when my femur is twisting then ** pop** a loud. It PAINFUL!!!

  • I completely tore my acl and I have to get this done...I don't know whether to get a donor or use my own...and I also want to know if anyone has had this surgery adn been successful enough to not have had torn it again...I just want to know it's possible

  • i had an acl tear in my right knee. i had the surgery and healed good and went through rehab and stuff. now two years later i havent been in any athletic activity since and when im just messing around doing flips and dancing and stuff sometimes it will hurt. like i may land a rough landing on a flip and my knee would hurt. i no i have not tore it again it does not hurt that bad. but it feel very unstable. feel like i cant do anything of higher difficult or it tear again. even wen i dance

  • Ouch must hurt like a mothaf*cker.

  • Im on month 11 post op, I refuse to sprint, I barely have the balls to jog, or step foot on the basketball court , but I'm lifting heavy weights, 500 on my squat with no pain. I still get constant little pops (non painful), which my doc said I will have forever. my only advice, crank your cpm machine, do lots of heavy and slow i mean slow! rep leg exercises, and avoid everything, haha

  • oh my god that video of the real live knee made me wanna throw up

  • I dislocated my knee and tore my acl competely. I have to get ACL replacement June 4th. :|

  • I destroyed my knee playing football in HS. Completely snapped the ACL, torn the meniscus and minor tear in the patellar. Fortunately I had a good surgeon and with physical therapy I have full range of motion again with good stability and strength. However once in a while I can step wrong and damn near fall on my face. My knee will swell and hurt like hell for a few days. A lingering side effect. Now in a couple months Im having shoulder surgery on my damaged rotator cuff by Dr James Andrews.

  • I had a bucket handle tear to cartilage in the knee (on outside of the left knee) and also partially ruptured my ACL. It has been 18 months (including 3 months of physio) since key hole surgery and my knee is still really weak and i have not done any sport since the accident. I am 21 year old male. Any suggestions? Lol. Thanks.

  • I tore my ACL when I was 12 in a soccer tournament. It was only a partial tear though, I was lucky and didn't have to get surgery. I did physical therapy though and got back to playing in 8 months. I'm not a patient person and I love soccer so it was hard to go that long without playing.

  • part 2 con'td: i feels like when i run full speed or w/e and try to make a turn its fine, but when i try to kick as hard as i can, he seems to shift, and swell up big again, causing some pain for 3-4 days. Any clue if this is an ACL TEAR or MCL TEAR or anything else??? some help would be appreciated and dont say doctor, cause i heard u can heel it naturally. im not a hippie, but i hate surgery and cant handle the recovery time i here. plz let me know what it could be and the options availabl

  • Heel naturally? Don't bet on it. If you let it go, damage can happen elsewhere. This is something that needs to be evaluated by a doctor. Or you have to give up soccer.

  • hey guys. i was playn soccer and was running full speed and tried to stop but i felt a sudden shift from left to right in my knee and i just fell. It become swollen in 3-4 mins and i didnt go to doctor or get mri. today, i still havent went to get a mri or see anyone but i can fully walk on it, jump, lift my leg and run about 60% of my speed. It is still a bit more swollen then my other knee, but at times i can here clicking or when i tried to play soccer again it felt like another shift!!!

  • i tore mine 3 times my knee is so fucked up you dont even wanna know

  • had my reconstruction 3 days ago. this sucks bad! if your not a patient person, the rehab process will make you one TRUST ME

  • i know exactly what you mean

  • There are symptoms like your knee feels like it's catching or slipping but the only way to really tell is to visit an orthopedist or orthopedic surgeon and have them diagnose it. They'll need test results like an MRI.

  • From an article the Dr. Goradia wrote 'Some patients return to sports as early as four months after injury, but typically it takes six to nine months for most people. It is difficult to give you a cookbook type of rehabilitation program.'

  • i tore my acl playing hockey and im going in for surgery in about a week ... has anyone had the surgery and if so how long does it take to come back to sports??

  • I have had my ACL reconstruction done this pass july and its now november and im easing my way back into sports. All that I can say is LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR, have confidence in your knee and when working out push it to the limit. Normally it takes 7 months to return to sports but because I am working out intensely (about 6 hours a week) my knees pretty good now.

  • Great advice.

  • i had my acl recon done 2 weeks ago . does it differ from different cases to wear a brace ?? my dr didnt prescibe me any brace . he used my hamstring tendon for the surgery .

  • Mate when i started playing football again i wore a brace and it made it worse. I got told by a physio that it makes no difference but i found it uncomfortable and it made my knee hurt slightly.

  • Every case is different. Braces are a docs preferance. Pro and cons of the brace are about the same. I had no crtuches or brace. ACLCENTRALdotCOM

  • i tore my ACL playing volleyball back in june at my church... somebodys knee hit the side of my knee... now i have to decide if i should have surgery next month or in december... since college is about to start i think im putting it off till december... but not sure yet

  • It is my understanding in working with Dr. Goradia that an injury to the ACL can put other knee ligaments/structures at risk. You'd need to consult with your ortho doc on this.

  • same here. tore mine playing pick up basketball. went for a dunk and landed wrong. holdin out til december 23rd

  • had my recon. surgery 3 days ago...i hope your a patient person

  • Did mine on sunday, just waiting for the mri scan. Hopefully it isnt completly ruptured.

But it doesnt seem to painful at the moment so fingers crossed, but i dont wish it upon anyone.

  • I completely tore mine and it barely hurt at all for me the instability and i wasnt able to bend it got me... but i just had surgery this morning so im really drugged up but pain isnt that bad

  • it hurts realy bad!

  • ive just torn it 2 days ago

it happened when my patella popped out during basketball

i didnt shed a tear but i shed a tear when the doctor told me one day after that my acl is torn and my meniscus, my mcl and my patella is damaged because i knew my sportcarreer is pretty much over

  • Your sport career does not have to be over. You will have to get it fixed and learn how to use it properly after surgery, but mnay people return to full sports play with out problem. Let us know how it's going at ACLCENTRALdotCOM

  • does the surgery has pain?i have my acl high grade partial tear..do i need surgery?pls answer

  • Look up drgoradia on you tube to answer more specifically. But the surgery has pain right after which icing helps tremendously. I am not a doctor, but from what I've heard from Dr. Goradia, an ACL tear can cause other knee issues is left untreated.

  • how do you tear your acl

  • This is from one of the articles Dr. Goradia wrote regarding how acl injuries happen-- 'You might hear a popping noise when your ACL tears. Your knee gives out and soon begins to hurt and swell. When injured, the ACL unravels like a braided rope and does not heal on its own.'

  • this is a very informative video, now i understand. Thanks for uploading

  • You're welcome.

  • how do you tear acl badly

  • People often tear the ACL when they participate in basketball, football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, tennis and any sport or work activity that requires cutting, jumping, pivoting, changing direction rapidly, slowing down from running or landing from a jump. So it's usually a quick change sort of motion when it happens.

  • Great video. I'm a PT and work with ACL reconstructions all the time. Thanks for posting this.

  • hi i just tore my acl on friday and scheduled for an x ray tomorrow do you think i would be able to play after recovery? and if so will i be lacking in explosiveness, quickness, and limited in movements? thanks doc!!

  • I posted this for a doctor. I am not a doctor myself. I also had him post this under his name, vicgoradia on you tube. At any rate, all of Dr. Goradia's patients with a torn ACL do fully recover. Exceptions would be knees that have undergone several previous procedures

  • thanx alot.. they said i didn't tear it bad.. but its my 8th grade year.. they said it wasn't torn all the way but it feels fine i can run and do everything else.. i just cant like cut it feels like my leg is ganna colapse.. do u no how long i will be out if its not all the way torn.. cuz since i didn't get to play football wich is my fav sports i really wanna play basketball

  • i tore my acl during football at practice.. it hurt so bad.. i think im going to get surgery soon.. hopefully everything goes good

  • It is fixable and techniques have really improved. Best of luck.

  • i hope i never tear my acl

  • It's extremely painful.

    I just did it yesterday.

How painful is the surgery webgal214?

  • The pain level depends on the person and the person perception of pain. I am 4 weeks post-op now and the pain is worth having a good knee. Don't let temporary pain scare you into a lifetime of knee trouble. Come talk about it at ACLCENTRALdotCOM

  • my acl just got torn and i have to get surgery and im like soo scared...is it bad? this video was really weird im soo scared now! im mostly scared about the anesthetics!

  • Anesthesia you mean? Ask for something like zothran to help with nausea. These days it is a much easier surgery. If you see the right surgeon who does the procedure arthroscopically. Icing methods and good post surgery PT practices also help. You will feel better after than you do now! But I am only speaking for the practice I do work for. I'm not the surgeon. But I do know they are not all created equal.

  • i dont have problems with the knee but im gonna have a operation in croatia

  • I had an ACL/meniscus surgery 2 1/2 years ago with an implant and my meniscus shaved (I think that is the term). I used a very well known orthopedist in Savannah, GA however since my surgery--my knee has not been the same. I tripped 1 1/2 weeks ago and fell directly on my knee. Not only did I think I had died while crying, my knee is swollen and it feels like it is twisting on the interior when I move/turn. I do bike ride and walk a good bit. Any suggestions? Thanks, Holly

  • Holly- I'll let the doctor know of your question.

  • Hi- You would have a better time getting a reponsed from Dr. Goradia if you post this at his ACL video account. I had him open one and post the video there so he would get these questions via his email. You tube info is below:

  • I had ACL surgery 6 months ago. The only problem i seem to have with it is with the shin bone and not the knee itself. Every time im running i get a sharp pain when my leg touches the floor, exactly were the bolt is. Feels like all my weights compressing on the bolt. It is gradualy getting better over time though. Anybody know what this is?

  • I had an operation 2 and a half years ago on both my ACL and Meniscus, but last night i was playing football, it injured again while i shoot the missed ball, and I heard a scary sound! My knee didn't rotate to bother my ACL(for sure), but my knee locks everytime and I cannot stretch it to some extend... Anybody has a solution? I think it's Meniscus again :(

  • I can't offer official diagnosis but it sounds like a torn meniscus. If meniscus was repaired during the 1st surgery, instead of torn part removed,it's likely you have a tear through previous repair site. You need an experienced knee specialist, x-rays, MRI.The MRI is to check ACL graft & other structures. If the meniscus is torn & has to be removed, it's important to note how much is removed. If significant loss occurs & you're under 40 you may later require a meniscus transplant.Vic Goradia, MD

  • Thank you very much, I dunno if they removed or repaired the meniscus in 1st surgery, but I hope my ACL has not been torn again, cause i remember my doctor said, after this kind of surgery, your ACL is much more stable compare to the original one...

  • The comment says webgal above but it is from Dr. Goradia and not me. I'm not a doctor. Do let us know. If you live in Virginia, it might be worth your while to see Dr. Goradia at Go Orthopedics. He's the athlete's sports med surgeon--very patient focused. Best of luck.

  • HI doc..im going in 4 my surgery in 2 months, but im still not sure wheather i go with lyk getting an autograft from my hamstring or betula..wat u suggest????

  • even though my friend tore her acl and i saw the exam watching it still makes me sick

  • HI i just had my ACL surgery id like to know if it normal for the knee to have more movement than normal after the surgery its only been 2 months since the surgery ?or will it get more solid as the muscles get stronger . pleas explain ?ane will i be aboul to play rugdby later on .

  • don't worry bout dat, i had da same problem. just dont be too much worried, and keep away from moving it, it will get solid after you grow back your muscles.

  • I had the doctor add this video to his library. That way he gets the comments and is more likely to answer. It is at the youtube adddress plus this part- watch?v=FxAIpcZhd7s. I cannot post a url in this message. But this does not sound normal to me. 804-452-1635 is the doctor's phone number. We are considering phone consults in the future.

  • Hi- This does not sound right. You would have a better time getting a reponsed from Dr. Goradia if you post this at his ACL video account. I had him open one and post the video there so he would get these questions via his email. You tube info is below:

  • That doesn't sound quite right to me. Look up vicgoradia on you tube and post the question for the acl surgeon, Dr. Vic Goradia on his copy of this video. He would know for sure.
