Yeah, the vocals are definitely an acquired taste. The lyrics are really awesome, though, as well (as the solos, etc.) There's a newer band I really like called Born of Osiris that mixes tech with melody (really well, imo) and their vocals are more hardcore-yelling than death metal growling/screaming. Might consider checking them out.

i listened to a couple of songs off that album and i'm of a mixed opinion
some of the melodic parts are really good and the solo's are great but im not a big fan of the vocals really
