: s I normally don't feel real emotion watching tragic news or stuff like that. but watching this video almost physically hurts. (watched without music)
dang...even now those images are surreal to look at, it was hard to believe that that happened here in my hometown, I remember driving through those areas after they opened up access again, crazy
from far away I watched that fire start in a sense out in the mountains from my living room, when I first saw it, the smoke was so light I mistook it for a smudge on my window, but prettymuch in the moments it took for me to look away and then look back up, it had become a monster.
best del taco i ever had came from a citizen who bought food for us sbcityfd ME226A and Trk221A in the 3500 block of Mountain Ave in the afternoon after fighting fires for 8 or 9 hours nonstop.
and it did look like warzone because it was. most houses have been rebuilt
lessons learned. 'bump and run' DOES NOT WORK once the fires are in the city. find a hydrant and start saving homes, lives, property.
and san bernardino has a very impressive water system, but on that day...it was maxxed out.
the 'old fire' of 2003 started about 9:15 in the morning above arrowhead springs. the fire literally blew out of the waterman canyon area threatening houses at 10:15ish. homes being burned with flames pushed by 30-70 mph winds at that time. all available sbfd resources w/mandatory callback committed w/local agencies (colton redlands san manuel, rialto, cdf etc) trying to stop the onslaught.
out of town strike teams(as far as san francisco) did not get into town until early afternoon.
They tried evacuating my dad and I out of San Bernardino near 40th st. we stayed and hosed down our roof, our house didn't burn down but we were unable to save three of our neighbors houses that burned down. It was us two, one other neighbor and a few police officers with garden hoses. A few streets up my grandfathers house burned down. So many memory's lost. I was 15 then.
I seen so many swimming pools with smoldering ashes next to them.. seems after the panorama fire there would be some sort of fire supression up wind using this water source ? I crindge every time the santa anna`s blow knowing it is a matter of time .... it sucks that some assholes set these !
i live i on dogwood and this house burned but they rebuilded it along with a bunch of other houses. if u drive through here you can find no trace that a fire ever happened
omg at 5:52! thats on del rosa.. i remeber they had 2 cut all those pretty trees down! damn....my sisters house burned in that fire..she lived on Ironwood

Brush fire blew down from the mountains above. The high winds carried the embers into the housing tract.
There was no way to stop it.
Hundreds of homes lost.

My brother and his family lost everything in this fire (they live on Modesto). The only thing that didn't burn was their marriage certificate!

Making a stand for what, the house is a loser....the idea is to get ahead of the fire before the house catches on fire!
