  • Some great musicians, and very good vocal harmony!

    Thanks.

    "Rockabilly" forever.........!

  • whats missing to me is some hot fiddle playing here..but wow great stuff

  • Can you believe I just discovered this fabulous music. My jaw is still on the floor. I'm hooked.

    What band!!!

    Will they reform one day?

  • @QClegal I really doubt it. Most are out doing their own thing these days. Plus, for some reason, I understand that Pat Flynn and Bela do not get along. So, if they did, it would be for the music only, don't think they'd all hang out. Shame, these guys were the cream of the crop for new grass. John Cowan still has an incredible voice, Bela only gets better, as does Pat and Sam.

  • @rockinredneck57 Thank you so much for your answer...too bad though. It's like I was living on another planet for too long...I'm discovering these musicians and trying to catch up. I just purchased John Cowan's New tattoo and it's a delight. I understand that he plays bass for the Doobies every now and then?. I'm also trying to watch every clip available on Youtube.

    Thanks again!

  • @rockinredneck57 I've never heard of any bad feelings between Bela and Pat, but its seems Sam won't have anything to do with Pat and vise versa for some strange reason.

  • I'm still having a hard time believing that that's what John Cowan used to look like.

  • I don't care if you guys say it's sloppy! It's the style of music!!!! Imagine getting sloshed at an inn with these guys playing in the corner!!

  • Now that's bluegrass as it should be played and sung! Wow!!!

  • The best I have EVER added to my play list. I LOVE Dr. Ralph Stanley but really appreciate the new new music....

  • Best Band EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow!!! Always loved these guys!

  • opening for these guys!

  • Who can't dig this shit? seriously. you can head bang to it. John Cowans a god damn rockstar and sam bush.... well. cant put it into words.

  • Love Bush's fill-ins and breaks haha

  • @tornskies45 What about the banjo work of Bela' Fleck? he can play literally anything on banjo!

  • @rockinredneck57 Ohh yes!! Bela' Fleck is seriously amazing. The whole band is/was.

  • good music,. fantastic de lo mejor ujeje

  • few bands play note for note, what is on the album. these guys are one of them.

  • @Schweatyballs89 Go back and listen; Pat's and Bela's breaks are entirely different. Sam's is really close to note-for-note the same, though.

  • i prefer the classic bluegrass but man i cannot resists at this one...this is simply awesome...the technique is is simply flawless...and the ending just rocks ...

  • what people dont and need to realise is that bluegrass IS acoustic heavy metal. As someone who practicaly studies metal I say that this song and bluegrass as a whole share the speed, intricacy and pure technical skill that make both bluegrass and heavy metal truly great american institutions. This live version is 'raw' in a way, but after falling in love with the album version and hearing this, they're all clearly incredible musicians as well as performers. Thumbs up all around.

  • not to mention Bela Fleck is the GOD of the banjo, no one does it better

  • just saw Cowan Band in Lexington a few weeks ago, that dude can still bring the heat, definitely still has the pipes. ive seen Sam Bush tons of times and that guy just gets better with age, LONG LIVE NGR!!

  • NGR ARE GODS...to me. The most fabulous four piece in new grass. JCowan so doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

  • I remember watching this on Nashville Now. I think it was around 85. John became my vocal hero and when I moved to Nashville we became friends. He is a sweet man and I think the best singer alive!!

  • And THAT is how it's done, ladies and gentlemen. It just doesn't get any better than this.

  • unbelievable chops and overall musicianship. absolutely fantastic.

  • Glad these folks are getting the exposure to the net! I've been playing the spoons to them for 3 years!

  • unbelievably.......

  • Does anyone have them doing What Child Is This. I think it was on the same night.

  • X L ENT!!!

  • I had forgotten how fast and furious these guys are. Wow! Check out Bela!!!

  • These guys are punk! I'm hooked.

  • Saw them several times then, have vhs of all of their tv stuff I've saved..they were gods!

  • There will never be another bluegrass or fusion group to come near the level of virtuosity of this one. These guys are individual phenom's each in his own right. The day they called it quits, we lost a lot, my friends.

  • Completely in agreement!

  • for all you ngr bashers.....open your ears man, these guys were smokin' hot.....did you hear that ending?....tighter than a nun's cunt.......although on this particular recording, Cowan's hail Mary note at the end was a little sharp, ....hey they're only human.........but mighty close to gods......impecible performance!!

  • @brianbelaire John Cowan has such a remarkable voice. How'd you like to get him and Raul Malo of the Mavericks together? Those two could blow the windows out of any joint!

  • What tuning is the banjo in?

  • G tuning capoed at the 4th fret.

  • yes, dude.. i totally agree

    you tell him.

  • Bela fleck rocks man! yaa!

  • this dude aint a bgrass singer

  • Yeah, he should really flatten out his tone, stop all vibratto and sing much more nasally. Oops, guess the John Cowan Band oughta just quit and go home...

  • this is better than the album track by far, i love the duet chorus

  • Fucking Awesome! Good Shit!

  • It doesn't get any better than this. I saw them at Denton NC in the 80's and have been hooked on Sam ever since.

  • This is what is so great about you tube...finding these kind of treasures!!!!

  • @ohiodarlin So true. I can remember this song. But, I only knew the lyric heading for a breakdown and was able to find it. Toronto, Canada is not the best city in the world to hear bluegrass. lol I remember seeing these guys on CMT.

  • Awesome song

  • It doesn't get much better then this folks. John Cowan & that inccredible voice. All 4 are tops.

  • I got to see these guys in 1980 pretty regularly on the steps of the student center at western kentucky university , it was great I'll never forget them , they play the conoe fest every year at beach bend in bowling green ky.

  • They really paved the way for the style of todays Bluegrass groups

  • This is truly a group of talented musicians...very sorry they broke up, but I'm glad Bela Fleck continues to perform as well as John Cowan. Thank you for posting.

  • Don't forget sam bush man, he still tears it up.

  • right, he's still a great musician

  • This is just sick

4 people with so much talent :-)

    OMG.

  • pat flynn was the dude
