WOW, Drak! Where do you find the time, man? Excellent use of your musical and now your visual talent. Very cool and most enjoyable video. Thanks for the friend request and for this post.
Time? What is this TIME you speak of? This took months to do, and there are many months between videos... definitely a hobby, not a career! Glad you are enjoying the videos!
I am happy to have you check out my music too! The "short" answer to your question (how did I make it) is up on this page, if you click "More Info" next to the video, I wrote a small essay (mentioning Harmony Assistant.) The graphics are written in a 3D text language... lots of work! :-)
Lots of time scribbling on paper, then typing in 3-D coordinates, then having the computer create each frame, then stitch it all together, tedious to create, but a fun result! Took months to build the movie. Thank you for stopping in and enjoying it! Loooove your music :-)
Bob! So glad to hear from you again, wondering how you've been doing. Thank you for finding me again in the sea of YouTubosity. We're just mopping up after the Southern California fires were literally all around us. Hope you're well! POV-Ray still has it! ;-)
We were joking recently about building one in our back garden bed to keep the chickens out, but it would be so sparkly, it would likely attract ravens. :-) Definitely a lot cooler than a garden gnome, though!
Dreams are often where I get my inspiration for these videos... wait until I finish "Fractal Serenity" (definitely dream-inspired!) It took a month to write the music, a couple months to design, render, and edit the 3D animations into the video, and a few weeks to design the DVD case packaging etc. But that is "spare-time" calendar days, not full-time.
Nice work on making and syncing the music and animation, they both look and sound really good. This reminds me of one of those early "Mind's Eye" videos--similar old skool CG and bouncy technoid pop music.
I don't see my prior two postings listed. If you're seeing this a third time: my apologies. Where was I, oh yeah: as expected: stunning, colorful, reflective of the music ... just what you'd want from an 80s video! The changing colored transparency effect on the outer columns (and the trucking shots featuring it prominently at 1:45 and 2:09) is worth the price of admission. I don't know how much of that is your code, but it sure looks like you spent two or three (thousand) minutes on it. Bravo!
Oh, and the rendering for the high quality DVD just finished, I'm starting to put together the packaging. It's got a few tweaks that are NOT in this video, like "area lights" (soft shadows), and a subtle pattern now visible in the ceiling :-)
Dang that YouTube video comment email confirmation thing! OK, what did I say ... oh, yeah - as expected: stunning, colorful, reflective of the music ... just what you'd want from an 80s video! The changing colored transparency effect on the outer columns (and the trucking shots featuring it prominently at 1:45 and 2:09) is worth the price of admission. I don't know how much of that is your code, but it sure looks like you spent two or three (thousand) minutes on it. Bravo!
Glad you stopped in to get retro-fied! Oh, it is 100% my original code and idea, from scratch. It probably took me 100+ hours to get this built and working... but to have you see and enjoy the little touches (like the colored transparency, syncing to the music, and trucking camera shots, then it is all worth it. Thank you for stopping in, Mike!
Eduard, I would like to thank you for affording me the opportunity to play guitar on this video. I enjoy it so much. As I wrote you, the colors are so nice I want to eat them, your music carresses the mind, and the images are so upeat and cheerful, they bring much happiness to the spirit.
Hey Ian, it was you that listened to the first incarnation of the piece, suggested that there were hidden Spanish guitar notes just waiting to be unleashed, then when I opened the "stage" in the middle for your guitar, you played beautifully in there, it really makes this a uniquely enjoyable piece.
...The video does show a bit of my upbeat smirky personality, and although the final DVD version is looking downright mouthwatering, I may have to put a warning label on it not to chew on the DVD... it doesn't taste quite like it looks. :-)
I really liked the song, and then when you added the video, it had a whole new meaning. I really like how the guitar notes light up. Very creative, and, after reading ziti's comment, it takes on yet another new meaning. ;-) I know this took many, many hours of work, and I thank you for sharing it with us.
And thank YOU for previewing the music and the video and critiquing and enjoying my work, as I enjoy yours! And I'm happy that the video came out in 3D for you to see its meanings from all sorts of funny angles!
Ziti! Don't give it away... some people may want to just see alien lollipop lava lamps, you know. It's so hard to sneak things past you, sir, that's what I like about you. BTW, I should have the high-quality DVD version of this ready in a few weeks... it looks stunning on the big screen, downright edible.
Thank you skiibunny, I really appreciate you stopping by and signing up to comment. The next music video will be a little more mysterious and thought-provoking... this one is mostly just fun eye-candy.
Impressive, but too phallic for my taste.

In the most positive sense of course :-).
I must get back to playing with good ol' POV-Ray...
