Robert Stinnet, author of "Day of Deceit: The Truth About FDR and Pearl Harbor", says "Miss Aggie", the US Navy's Senior Civilian Cryptanalyst, had cracked JN25 way back in June, 1939, and the folks at Station-CAST over at Corrigedor in the Philippines, reported to Washington DC on November 16, 1941, that they had cracked JN25(b) and were regularly intercepting and decoding JN25(b) IJN Radio Traffic. On November 15 (EST), 1941, General George Marshall then called all the Major News Agencies together back in Washington DC, swore them to secrecy, and revealed the US had cracked and were now able to read Japan's JN25(b) Coded Radio Messages.
This is from actual 1941 US Navy documents originally stored at the Documents Storage Vault in Crane, Indiana, declassified in 1993, moved to the Steny Hoyer Research Center at the University of Maryland's Archives II, and finally released to the American Public via FOIA in January 1995.
However, starting in 1999, the NSA has been filing over two doxen Withdrawal Notices, making hundreds of pages of these documents unavailable.
I've got a VHS series from Time-Warner I think, where the episode on Code-breaking mentioned the same thing a recent History Channel program from BBC mentioned that it was the British/Australians who first broke the codes back in 1939. The question both programs asked was why Singapore Station personnel knew where and when the attacks were going yet both London and Washington claimed ignorance. Supposedly these same Brits helped the Americans with Japanese codes since 39 so it is curious.

Cdr John Lietwiler, reported to Washington DC his staff was "current in intercepting, decoding and translating" Japan's Operations Code as of November 16, 1941, Manila time. On the same day (November 15, 1941 EST) in Washington DC, General Marshall revealed the US had broken the Japanese Codes.
Japan's Naval Operations Code was known as Code Book D Random Number Table Seven in the Fall of 1941. The US Navy called it "Five Number Code".
I just watched the Time Life Video "Secrets of WWII":Target Okinawa & it says that the British had broken more of the IJN naval codes than us, actually knew on Dec 2nd that the Kure fleet was going to hit Pearl Harbor.
It says London was notified & it also says our Naval Intel knew before the attack too, but it claims that neither Churchill nor FDR knew. 1 may be a coincidence, but both?
It does say the USN made a cover-up afterwards, but that doesn't make sense us(USN) setting ourselves up.
There was a documentary on a PBS channel last month on code-breaking in general. Pearl was just part of the program, but it did say that there is evidence that FDR did know within a 6 day period when Pearl would be attacked. Japanese navy changed their code just one week before this message was received. It did not get decoded until AFTER Pearl Harbor because it took a few months to crack the new cipher. That's because US military issued a war warning on 27Nov41, saying a Japanese attack could be expected in any direction at any time, but not specifically Hawaii.
The problem here is that WRHappened hasn't worked hard enough and doesn't know or present the full history. Narrator makes its sound as if the public only became aware in 1994 that we had cracked Japan's codes when in fact it was declassified right after the war. We first cracked their codes in 1921 and by 1941 had cracked 24 subsequent codes. Any good historian of WWII knows this.
Please explain to us why Winston Churchill's message to Roosevelt sent one day after the British decoded Yamamoto's order to the fleet to sail to Hawaii's waters remains classified to this very day?
Then explain why the official story claims that the Japanese fleet maintained radio silence on their way to Hawaii when radio operators in Hawaii could clearly hear them broadcasting (and the radio operator of the SS Lurline provided an actual map of their course across the Pacific to the ONI in Hawaii four days before the attack)?
Then explain why the US Government spent decades trying to claim that the crew of the USS Ward only imagined seeing a Japanese mini-sub an hour before the attack, up until the UH Oceanography department found the remains of the craft on the ocean floor.

How many of us were taught that the Japanese Prime Minister Konoe, with the support & carrying a personal letter from the Emperor, had asked for face to face talks with Roosevelt to prevent war, but it was Washington who refused?

With FIVE DIGITS, that's 99,999 possible words, which is several times larger than any Human Being's Normal Vocabulary (you are lucky to have a 12,000 to 20,000 word vocabulary).
The ENGLISH TRANSLATED IJN Radio Messages were sent off to Washington DC and copies presented to FDR on a DAILY BASIS.

The only thing I can add is from my own personal observation - that intelligence pumps out 100s if not thousands of reports. Some are right, some are wrong, some are ignored, some are acted on. It's easy to look back in history and point to the damning piece of action of a government that failed to act on a particular report just as it is easy to point to the faults of a government that acted on failed intelligence.

I've got a VHS series from Time-Warner I think, where the episode on Code-breaking mentioned the same thing a recent History Channel program from BBC mentioned that it was the British/Australians who first broke the codes back in 1939. The question both programs asked was why Singapore Station personnel knew where and when the attacks were going yet both London and Washington claimed ignorance. Supposedly these same Brits helped the Americans with Japanese codes since 39 so it is curious.

Cdr John Lietwiler, reported to Washington DC his staff was "current in intercepting, decoding and translating" Japan's Operations Code as of November 16, 1941, Manila time. On the same day (November 15, 1941 EST) in Washington DC, General Marshall revealed the US had broken the Japanese Codes.
Japan's Naval Operations Code was known as Code Book D Random Number Table Seven in the Fall of 1941. The US Navy called it "Five Number Code".

I just watched the Time Life Video "Secrets of WWII":Target Okinawa & it says that the British had broken more of the IJN naval codes than us, actually knew on Dec 2nd that the Kure fleet was going to hit Pearl Harbor.
It says London was notified & it also says our Naval Intel knew before the attack too, but it claims that neither Churchill nor FDR knew. 1 may be a coincidence, but both?
It does say the USN made a cover-up afterwards, but that doesn't make sense us(USN) setting ourselves up.

There was a documentary on a PBS channel last month on code-breaking in general. Pearl was just part of the program, but it did say that there is evidence that FDR did know within a 6 day period when Pearl would be attacked. I believe it was a Detroit PBS station but the credits all looked valid, no individual authoris or conspiracy nuts, all archives and congress library this and freedom of information that recently. Wish I'd copied it. Damn 100 channels to surf lol.

If you visit Hawaii today, be sure to also stop at the DOLE PINEAPPLE Visitor's Center in WAHIAWA (as well as Heiia Park too), get your free cup of Hawaiian Pineapple Juice, and look off across pineapple fields to the US NAVY HFDF Intercept Station still there today.
It is "The ELEPHANT CAGE" (so named because that is what it looks like.. it's that big!!), a huge circular curtain HFDF Wullenweber Antenna Array (GTE Sylvania in Mt. View, CA, was Prime Contractor) for Radio Direction Finding.

Station H (aka: Station HYPO) was just one of many DF (Direction Finder) HF (High Frequency) Radio Intercept stations the US NAVY owned and operated in the Pacific Ocean Region with the IMPERIAL JAPANESE EMPIRE as target.

War102 is correct. I've taught history 25 years & been in military. The Tripartite Pact was never activated. Japan never signed any document or treaty title 'Axis'. That's our propaganda to hide the fact America wasn't willing to take on the Nazis like Britain at the time.
I've been sceptical of this stuff myself for decades, however after some research & BBC is quite reputable, I concede most of this is probably true.
BBC would've been sued like over Iraq if anything they filmed was untrue.

Sorry son, but even if you watched the old 70s Pearl movie let alone read any of our own history books from encycopedias to specialists like Wint(who was hired by US to help in war-crime trials vs Japs) or Toland & Macksey. We'd broken their diplomatic codes MAGIC even more than their military codes ULTRA like JN-25 as far back as the Brits in 1939.
We decoded the declaration of war even b4 they did lol. Just look up ULTRA/ MAGIC or ENIGMA or read one of our English-language history books.

Japanese navy changed their code just one week before this message was received. It did not get decoded until AFTER Pearl Harbor because it took a few months to crack the new cipher. FDR DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE ATTACK WOULD BE. The claims made here are bogus conspiracy theory trying to cloak itself in real history.

Actually as early as American veteran(vs Japan) & historian John Toland's works to the admittedly US biased "Total War" & Oxford Encyclopedias on WWII, admit that FDR did know Pearl was on a top 6 list of military targets and within a 2 week strike period.
The recent American series "Secrets of Pearl Harbor" from the Discovery Channel also point out recently released records indicating FDR knew & some American Admiral even predicted exactly how the attack would go in a memo even before Taranto.

PREDICTED? Sure. USNavy played mock war games for a decade where Pearl was attacked by air from USN carrier planes. Everyone knew it was possible, there was just no credible intelligence that Japan was headed specifically for Pearl. Multiple war warnings went out across the Pacific from last week in Nov thru early morning 7Dec. FDR sat up all night that night. Gen. Short was at fault for not being on full alert and not defending Hawaii. Mac got caught napping in Manila, too.

The problem here is that WRHappened hasn't worked hard enough and doesn't know or present the full history. Narrator makes its sound as if the public only became aware in 1994 that we had cracked Japan's codes when in fact it was declassified right after the war. We first cracked their codes in 1921 and by 1941 had cracked 24 subsequent codes. Any good historian of WWII knows this.

Data from the UN weapons inspectors consistently showed he had nothing, I accepted those reports and they turned out to be correct. I was taught that the US knew of the impending attack and FDR let it occur so that the US could be drawn fully into World War II, but they did not know that the attack was going to be as bad as it was. That's my THESIS... AMERICA was the DIRECT CAUSE of all the nasty IMPERIAL JAPANESE EMPIRE behavior with the 1854 "PERRY INCIDENT".
If America had just LEFT JAPAN ALONE, it would have remained an ISOLATED, PEACEFUL, and QUIET Country... UP TO NOW... BOTHERING NOONE.
Similarly, if FDR had just LEFT JAPAN ALONE, AMERICA would have remained in QUIET PEACEFUL ISOLATION, and NOONE WOULD HAVE DIED between Japan and America in a Pacific War that never would have happened.

No, I did not make a mistake. Perry did arrive in Tokyo Bay with is demands from the US President to "OPEN UP FOR TRADE" in the Summer of 1853, but he gave Japan until 1854 to respond.
After convincing the Japanese Governor of Tokyo that he really could destroy all of Tokyo with his Naval Guns, he said he would return the following year for Japan's Answer... and it better be "YES!!"
It was... "YES!!"

The Ship's Radio Operator of the SS LURLINE (Luxury Cruise Ship out of Hawaii... other was the SS MATSONIA... both of MATSON NAVIGATION of HAWAII) monitored the Radio Messages from/to the IJN Attack Fleet and Tokyo, which were so powerful and sent so many times repeatedly, that he was able to easily DF (Direction Find) the IJN Fleet's location over a period of time (heading for HAWAII), and reported it to the US NAVY upon his returning back to port in Hawaii.
It was IGNORED.

More than ignored, it vanished! The US Navy archives still list the radio log of the Lurline in their catalog, but the log itself is gone. Fortunately, the radio operator had made a copy, which is where Robert Stinnet got his information for the book "Day of Deceit"

Don't remember the details or where I heard it but there was also a US radar station north of Hawaii that picked up the approaching fleet. We had just acquired rudimentary radar from the Brits at that time.

It picked up the approaching aircraft, not the ships, which remained 200 miles over the horizon. We had 4 such radar units on Oahu, all of British design. However, the apporaching aircraft were mistaken for a flight of B-17 arriving from mainland US at the same time.

Actually opposite is true. Given how badly we racistly under-estimated them, had we tried to employ 'Plan Orange' or even sent out our fleet to ambush the Japs from Pearl with our Carriers, we would have lost all our Pac carriers & worse, unlike re-raising our ships in harbor, all our ships lost would have been lost for-ever at bottom of ocean AND our best trained crews with them. So in reality we were lucky to be engaged as we were, strange as it sounds. Any other way would have been far worse.

You missed the point. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor only because Roosevelt GOADED them into it, by following the 8-step plan created by ONI Lt. Cmdr Arthur H. McCollum. The Roosevelt concealed the impending attack from the Hawaii commanders and the public to make it look like a sneak attack, in order to anger the American people into supporting war.
It was all a lie, just like the lies about Saddam's WMDs, to trick Americans into a war they otherwise would have opposed.

At 01:23, you see a CODE SHEET showing columns of FIVE DIGIT NUMBERS, and their corresponding Japanese Decription. From there, it's a simple matter to translate to ENGLISH. With FIVE DIGITS, that's 99,999 possible words, which is several times larger than any Human Being's Normal Vocabulary (you are lucky to have a 12,000 to 20,000 word vocabulary).
The ENGLISH TRANSLATED IJN Radio Messages were sent off to Washington DC and copies presented to FDR on a DAILY BASIS.
FDR knew all along!!

If you look closely at 00:20, you can see the THREE (3) Antenna Towers supporting the actual Wire Antennas, as well as PINEAPPLE PLANTS in the foreground of the photo.
The Building itself is typical of Construction in Hawaii at the time, with the Raised Floor (keeps termites and rainwater away from the foundation of the building), Sewer Vents sticking up from the roof, Hip Roof, and wooden window frames. It's long gone now, as is the DOTE STORE (with the 7-Up Sign on the roof).

to partake of Hawaiian kitcsh circa mid 70s. If only I knew then what I know now. Look up, get, and read all about "THE McCOLLUM MEMO", developed by Lt. Commander Arthur McCollum, of the US Navy's ONI, who developed the 8-POINT PLAN to provoke Japan into attacking Pearl Harbor.... and handed to FDR way back on OCTOBER 7, 1940.
FDR ordered it's execution started the very next day!! After POINT-8 was performed, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor... exactly as predicted.
Churchill got his wish for the US to enter WWII on the UK's side against Germany (and Japan).
