This explosion is very real. I was in the USAF and I was on an ICBM launch crew. This missile is an early Atlas missile. This is the type missile that launched John Glenn into space. There was a major malfunction with the engines and the missile simply could not produce enough thrust to get the missile going on it's way. There's lots of heat and when the missile came back down, it just broke up and all the fuel and ozidizer spilled out and exploded.
impact is not the only method of detonation there are remotes,timers and altimators, depth charges and the list goes on. that could have been wiring or any numer of things

It's like this: In order to create nuclear chain-reaction, special shaped pieces of high explosive are constructed around a perfectly round ball of enriched uranium (a very unstable material that releases parts of itself in the form of deadly radiation) Thereby creating a ball within a ball. When detonation occurs, the triggering device must detonate all of the spherical shape-charges within thousandths of a second to "press" equally into the center of the uranium's core, and you've got a bomb.
It won't explode as there is no Pay Load in it, it is a dummy system. Besides there are many commas and fullstops even if it was Live Pay Load (LPL). No body will risk it.
