In my opinion, Liz Fraser is a tortured soul of a Singer-Songwriter. I read a sad interview from 1996 on the band's website that Liz was sexually abused by her brother-in-law and possibly by her father and she was completely ignored by her family (her siblings ignored her) and was kicked out of her house at the age of 16 because she was into Punk Rock. Those dark and painful memories might have something to do with the enigmatic nature of her lyrics because they might be too personal to explain
blue bell knoll, the whole album is unreal each and every song is perfect ,one after another is like a cascade of music and sounds ,beautiful music ,for me the most complete album ever from begining to end ,my number one.
@duraman2000 well said my friend, the blend from one song to the next is a perfect melding of hamonic bliss of one song to the next fulfilling the whole concept of this album!
@shum65 hey shum i just got into them after hearing of them back in 99' i was a little young for them i was born in 76' by my girlfrined is older than me and used to listen to them , i wish i tried them sooner ....i am in absolute love, every song i click is amazing!!!!!they are my new love for sure.....not since didcovering Current 93 years ago have i been moved by such beauty and i see you love them....thanks for these vids my life has been altered forever and i'm glad!!!!
Over twenty years later, and the melody and opulence of this song is still 100% the NUTS. On top of that, Liz Fraser is still unmatched on the pop/rock scene. Beyond sick.
I have longed for something like you tube so I can just look at and listen to her over and over!! Her voice is my heaven. When I hear Sheryl Crow I want to dig my ears out of the side of my head and pull my eyes out of their sockets.
Elizabeth Frazer is my girl. I have loved her since San Luis Obispo and I will love her forever. She is the one and only most beautiful sound that ever launched out of a throat.
I think some of the lyrics here are French, or at least they sound like French i.e. 'vedder vedder cidit bon' then at 1.29 secs (ish), 'dan, voici......'
I used to drink a drop of Athol Brose now and again...

Hi kkkbaby..I,ve just read my reply to you, sorry for some of the mistakes I wrote. "just has to BE a recipe for perfection..!!" Is what I meant to say..ha-ha..!! Alas I had been drinking.... I was lucky to have come across the band in 83,when seeing them on the live show the Tube..one friday night...and since then never looked back... Hey as you say better late than never.. plus all their music is waiting to be heard. Have fun mate...!! Great hearing from ya..
heres shum again with another good one.... I remember playing this one low when i was younger because it was out right happy...she's VERY happy about something in this one... LIZ LIZ oh liz...she's spring heeled on this one.........
They're done. Too much residual animosity between Robin and Liz, and Liz is apparently chronically disinterested.
At least Robin is still making excellent music on his own, though. _Continental_ was great, old school Robin, and his collaborations with Ulrich Schnauss produced "On my Own" and "Gone Forever," two amazing, melodically rich shoegazer tracks.
Funny, I've heard this song literally hundreds of times, and it never occurred to me how much MBV "Loveless" borrows from it...and this predates "Loveless" by a couple years.
The Cocteau Twins were pioneers of sound. Severely underrated.

style, but what a gift it was for us all. :)

she purposely doesnt form words but just sings what sounds good to fit the mood of the music,it isn't any particular language.

Funny, I've heard this song literally hundreds of times, and it never occurred to me how much MBV "Loveless" borrows from it...and this predates "Loveless" by a couple years.
The Cocteau Twins were pioneers of sound. Severely underrated.
LOMBRADY71 2 years ago
Hi LOMBRADY71, I totally agree mate...
The Cocteau Twins inspired so many other groups over the years, and yet they
themselves got little if no recognition for all their iconic music...!! Its a true crime,
that the band only ever received just one
award in all their career, that being last-
year,after being disbanded nearly 12yrs.
But at least we their fans acknowledged -
their awesome creativity over the years.!!
As you said they are severely underrated!!
Thanks mate..!

A good Friend told me there's a definite overwound cuckoo clock sound running throughout this song, and I've never been able to get that image out of my head. I can picture the bird bursting out of his little door at near light speed, springs and gears and splintered wood flying everywhere...
bobbysevensevenseven 3 years ago
Now that image does stay in the mind!!
I can hear the sound of winding-up a clock-
intermittently,throughout the track!
But do tell? what happens to that poor bird?
Does it get injured, doing such a plucky act?
