Were Iraqis supposed to keep quiet and allow the violation of their national sovereignty? If your own country was under occupation, you would join the resistance and fight with your teeth if necessary, unless you had no self-respect.
Iraqis decided not to submit to foreign rule and are prepared to die to take their country back. The US can't win against such a show of determination.

The US should pay for the rebuilding of the country it destroyed, but I don't believe it should dictate how this will come about. The presence of coalition forces is the reason why the rebuilding is unthinkable, it's a dead end.
The government should be able to defend itself, but no Iraqi is prepared to defend a US sponsored puppet regime. Iraqis can't trust the US forces that vandalized their country and killed thousands for nothing, in these conditions building an army is simply impossible.

The bringing down of the Twin Towers in NYC has opened Pandora's box. The USA decided to do what must be done, and do it now. Saddam was a mess. The funniest part of the propaganda war, is the so called love, acceptance, of the U.S. in iraq. Only the minorities, gained anything from the war, and since, services like electricity, water etc: are worse than before the war started, how can anyone be happy? It's for control of oil exports and production, not to produce and bring more to the USA (at least for now) you nutter. This gives American gas companies a large profit that Americans are willing, apparently, to pay. That's why the price of gasoline has skyrocketed and continues to do so.

Some of these comments coming from the 'cobwoy diplomats' are just outrageous. al Sadr is a terrorist? How, when was the last time you've heard of the Mehdi army initiate an attack on -anyone-, civilian or not. This is nothing more than attempt to get rid of the only force in the region that is willing and capable to preserve Iraq's wealth for the Iraqi people. One of the basic problems here is that fundamentalist Muslims think a secular government is apostasy. Sort of like "we don't need no stinkin' human government. God has given us the laws!"
Ataturk, knowing about this problem 100 years ago, would have none of it.Set up a secular government in Turkey where modernity has set in now. This is what must happen in the entire middle east unless you like insane people blowing themselves up in malls and markets round the world.
