It's not the show it's the people doing it. From what I've seen, greg, wayne, and chip are funnier than all these other people I've seen on the UK version, except for the real fat guy with the mustache/beard who shows up. What's his name?
How the host awkwardly says at 0:28 to reassure the audience, "No, you're just acting," is as if he's trying to protect the integrity of this show. AWKWARD.
It has been my experience that the American version will make you laugh outright more oft while the UK version will make you smile. Watching someone trip (huge guffaw) versus reading a pun (amused murmer). Not to say one version is more "intellectual" than another or of some higher caliber, although the concept originated in the UK. American version is perhaps more open and less awkward than the UK? Nicer set, the comics are more charming and laugh at themselves (seem like friends: Ryan/Colin).
Na, British humour is more witty and concieved than American humour, thereby making it better suited for prerecorded shows. American humour is more punch line based, and is perfectly suited for a show like this. While the British version is still funny, I think the American one is better for the above reason.
@jazzymassacre I'm aware of that, but improv comedy generally isn't singing stupid songs. That is what I'm talking about since it's suppose to be a COMEDY show, not a musical.
@Breakfast221 Honestly, I think that Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Stephen Fry, Wayne Brady, Greg Proops, and Brad Sherwood would probably make the best episode of this show ever. Like, a massive, 2-hour long episode of non-stop hilarity.
They weren't that funny, compared to Colin and Ryan, then again, no one is.
That is Ironic, because the US version, is aired on a Family Network, so a few things aren't allowed. They are very flexible with that show though, and allow certain stuff :)
Just really far things, like calling someone who acted like a seal "Steven Hawking"
1st off, what do you mean British guys suck at comedy? You might find this host boring but in general british comedians tend to be funnier and wittier then American ones.
In most mediterranean countries and certainly in latin américa, if your wife goes to bed with somebody else, she is "placing horns on your head,", so, a husband "horned" "cornudo" "Cornutti" is a fool, perhaps the worst kind, hence the saying "If you find your wife is bedding someone else and you want to jump from a cliff, remember, you have horns, not wings", that is, I think, the meaning of that gesture.
You didn't laugh because you have no sense of humour. I'm sure you like Adam Sandler and other shitty humour like that.. And two of the people in this were both from North America (Colin and Ryan).
Fry said in his America documentary that he doesn't consider himself good at improv. Bit hard on himself, methinks -- he's been fantastic every time he's been on Whose Line!
I am ashamed to say that I prefer to watch the US version. Im a massive fan of our good old British humour, and I would do untold things to Stephen given the chance, but this sort of quasi-improv just requires the more 'zaney' characteristics of the US version. platinazb is right I think in saying that the UK version is better for the use of language, as epitomised in lovely Stephen
okay first of all Josie and that guy are not the funniest comedians alive, nor are they decent comedians, you want proof? notice how the audience laugh, AND applaud after almost everytime Colin and Ryan go up, they chuckle at the unfunny things the other two come up with and Colin and Ryan are on the US version of this show, meaning the US people are better than the British, never have i heard a quieter audience than on the UK version of Whose Line, the US is better end of story
Just so you know, both Josie and Stephen have done lots of things besides...uh...this clip. Especially Stephen, who, as a matter of fact, I DO think is the funniest comedian alive right now. You know why? Because I've actually /watched his work/ and not based my ENTIRE judgment of him on one random clip from a show he guest starred in a few times.
...in fact, it sounds like you based your opinion of UK WL entirely on this clip too...O_o Now what's the point of that?
Are you serious? You clearly have no clue about comedy if you do not know Stephen Fry's other work. The man is a genius, of course we can't expect an American to understand something that doesnt involve a fart joke. Oh and the reason that the audience is quieter in England is that we are not all hyped up on sugar and lard.
Okay Listen up Dumbass. If it wasnt for us you wouldnt have WLIIA,coz we where the original. And yeah,Stephan Fry never lets any one down with his work,so he is the funniest guy alive, and the audience?Well,The studio was smaller. Now before I leave,I just wanna say one thing before you go judging us.Up...Yours.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
nah listen if your actually still reading this, the audience IN THIS CLIP is SIGNIFICANTLY quieter when those two come up, you cant deny it, and if you think true comedy is british comedy then the definition of comedy must mean -not funny congrats for coming up with the idea, now the US took it and made it better, accept it dont live in denial, and realize how stuck up you are
I love both versions but I will say that I think the US edges out the UK for many reasons. However the audience response shouldn't be used as any type of barometer given that the UK audience is at best 1/3 the size of the US so obviously they won't be as loud.
If you'd actually pay attention to what Clive says, you'll notice the deadpan way in which he allocates points. He doesn't need to state the obvious every five minutes to the audience.
Stephen Fry and Josie Lawrence were, and still are two of the best comedy performers alive. How you can say they aren't funny is quite frankly a mystery to me.
im really not in the freakin mood right now, so ill say this they arent funny and the funniest man who ever lived was charlie chaplin im not against the uk i just think the 2 arent funny
