  • exquisite. So pleasurable!

  • She portrays the emotion in her whole being. Not just her voice. She goes to that special place and it moves me.

  • Lovely performance! Thank you Onegin65 for the uploading.

  • It's not Christmas without :)

  • Penis Angelicus... :)

  • @vargy88 not funny

  • @vargy88 how you mistake bread for genitalia and find yourself funny will remain one of the mysteries of the world.

  • @SA0is0not0Special0A i placed a bet and lost it, that is why i had to post that, so don't worry and don't spend your energy by getting het up over people in the internet that you don't know face-to-face :)

  • idk i think there's interference from a spanish radio station or something faintly in the background. you can really hear it @ 3:49 . yeah indeed great performance though...

  • I have see some other performances of this song and I think this is the most flawless and stunning of all I've seen :) two words: angelical voice

  • @Daniliz81 totally agree with you ! :-)

  • Angelic perfection.

  • This piece can not be performed any beter. This is the definitive version.

  • Awesome voice;

  • Wanderful but in my modest opinion Elina Garanca much better, singing this delicious song from Dresen Cathedral.

  • Absolutely beautiful, yet, I suggest watching "Elina Garanca" singing this same song from Dresden Cathedral.

  • Awesome! Beautiful woman, too.

  • What's up with the sound on this song? It's like the radio station wasn't tuned in all the way and there's some bleed-over from another station.

  • She's beautiful!

  • This is what heaven sounds like!

  • Someone sang this at my mum and dad's wedding in the 1950s

  • I've been listening to Renee Fleming for some years and I can't decide whether this is Fleming at her best or Fleming at her worst.

  • Geesh !...Just enjoy the voice you nit-picking morons.

  • Christ...Just enjoy the voice you nit-picking morons.

  • Louise Florence and Niall Cahill performed Panis Angelicus at the Living Links Service of Remembrance at Cavan Parish Church on 15th May 2011, remembering friends and relatives who have died by suicide.

  • She's a fine soprano, one of the best in the world at the moment. Unfortunately, these days, she seems to spend more time developing a public image than applying herself. It's sad, but image nowadays seems more important than technical brilliance. It's a lot more lucrative. If you want to make a lot of money and be famous, like Pavarotti, say, you have to appeal to a larger audiance where the technical virtuosity this singer possesses is less important than other factors.

  • this is fantastic. I love this song, and she interpreted it very well. (along with the choir of course). very beautiful tone, and not too much vibrato...everything was gorgeous. btw, I love her dress too :D

  • Is it just me or is there some radio playing in the background? Does anyone else hear it as well? I moved the balance on the master volume entirely to the right speaker which blocked out Renee's voice and I could hear only the radio..

  • She looks like thirty.Awesome interpretation. The most beautiful song ever has been written.

  • IF YOU WANT TO SEE A YOUNG SOPRANO AND STAR OF THE FUTURE PERFORM THIS SONG SEARCH "OKSANA LEPSKA" ON YOUTUBE :)))))

  • How about "she looks damned good"? Why must age come into it at all? This attitude assumes you're normally a hag by then, and she's some sort of rare exception.

  • hìhí_passt_híêr_ñêt_rëìn_àbâ_ïch_bïñ_sò_êìnsâm_wïll_jèmãñd_mit_mìá_schrëïbën

  • When I first heard the birds chirping, I was like, "Hey! There are birds outside my window!"

  • Renee is great..Please,listen to Inessa Galante,if you can find her recordings, she is amazing.

  • Bravo!

  • This is one of my absolute favourites! "O res mirabilis! Manducat Dominum pauper servus et humilis."

  • encore pleins de comme cela

  • @ operadiva023 If you realy study opera now for 4 years on an age of 13 you should kill your singing teacher, as it is absolutely unresponsible to form a voice into opera-ranges at this age. I wish you all the best, and hope that you are one of the less than 1% whos voice survives such stupidity! Most of the voices crack into a huge vibrato at ages less than 35. And this is avoidable.

  • @Reisebuspilot that is the truth.

  • @Reisebuspilot My voice teacher was well aware of that when she took me at such a young age and I now study at Interlochen Arts Academy who is also well aware of that. I appreciate your concern, but there are ways to be training classically and operatically with out injury and that's what I have been doing and will continue to do.

  • @operadiva023 Advertising, naughty!

  • @JomeAt10 That was hardly advertising.

  • O voce de Excepţie !!!! Felicitări.

  • She is a woman, feminine, female everything that God created a special entity. She is so beautiful that I envy who can fill her love. She is complete and belong to the choices woman of God for the world.

  • @Gotthard38 Very well said. You put into words exactly the emotion I feel when I see and hear her. Her humility and down to earth demeanor is one of her most attractive attributes as well as her amazing voice. I have seen her in several interviews and she is so humble and unpretentious, and genuine. When I've had a bad day or am down I watch some her interviews over and over just to see the clips of her smiling. Her smile changes the worst of moods to good ones.

  • @Gotthard38 "Choice woman", may I remind you, that it was precisely that idiotic notion that deprived us of and destroyed María Callas. Jesus Christ, this is the 21st century¡¡¡¡ , such inane reasoning.

  • @rmgj Dear God, what are you babbling on about? Gotthard didn't say anything negative. Quit being such a pathetic arsehole.

  • @7777Scion Oh, try and re-read it all, and try and read Callas biography, you can read, can't you?, "Choice Woman" ha ha.

  • @rmgj Sorry, but you're nothing but an inbred idiot.

  • @7777Scion Ha ha ha, So, the truth does hurt, doesn' it , me lad?, a brave american cowboy who shoots from the hip, drooling insults, minimum a couple per message, spiting chewed tobacco sideways, thinking the world began a few minutes after his birth, (In a corral, of course), ha ha, and it is you, of all people, who speaks of mental weakness, better check your genealogy, you'd be surprised, ha ha

  • @rmgj wenn man besoffen ist, sollte man nicht schreiben!

  • @hthoma Ach so?

  • Who have film "60 Minutes - The Diva Next Door"?

  • subliminal messages at the right side!

  • i think she has a fantastic voice, but she does this with her voice that makes her slightly flat before some notes. i'm not talking about some of the slides, thats ok (sort of), its just sometimes at the beginning of the tune she does it.

  • I am in love with Renne Fleming I want the world to know it

  • I used to attend Mass in Mainz Cathedral when I lived in Wiesbaden from 1976 to 1977. Never heard a performance as good as this! Brava!

  • Listening to Renee Fleming is like listening to a whole host of angels. I hope, if I go to heaven I will be seated right next to Renee Fleming. Okay, so I lust after Renee Fleming. What do you expect? That voice has to be the most perfect voice ever trained. And she can perform in so many genrea and settings magnificently. So let an old man lust a little!

  • Another beautiful performance of this sacred hymn is by Elina Garanca.

  • She was born Feb. 14, 1959. She is 51 today (Aug. 9, 2010). She was 46 when this was performed. Beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beatiful performance.

  • If she is fifty, then she is pretty hot...... = ]

  • Panis angelicus fit panis hominum; Dat panis coelicus figuris terminum: O res mirabilis! manducat Dominum Pauper, servus, et humilis. Te trina Deitas unaque poscimus: Sic nos tu visita, sicut te colimus; Per tuas semitas duc nos quo tendimus, Ad lucem quam inhabitas. Amen.
  • Sung brilliantly by a true master of the art!!!!

  • Why does this look so pre-recorded and lip-synced? She looked like she barely breathed. Operatic singing is not that easy...is it? Still, she is one of my favorite sopranos and her voice is stunning. Loved her work in LOTR. <3

  • @Malleolust It isn't pre-recorded. It was filmed live at the Mainz Cathedral in Germany. You can get the whole DVD of it on Amazon. Renée just makes it look easy, but control like that takes years to perfect. Opera singers don't need special effects to sound good, they just open their mouths and sing.

Of course, it also doesn't hurt that this cathedral has the acoustics to lift her voice to the heavens. 5 *****

  • @redrosestoo Ahhh, I see. Please don't misunderstand, I was in NO way discrediting her voice. I know its impeccable! It just looks soooo effortless. Def 5 stars! :]

  • Just wonderful

  • @4:03 birds chirping haha

  • WUNDERSCHÖN !!!

    -vito messana-

  • she looks so poised and relaxed. how is she doing that?!?!?!

  • Thanks for posting this video.

  • rien ne vaut la version de Elina Garanca....voix pas agréable!!!

  • I desperately need music sheets for this version -can enybody help me??PLEASE!

  • uhmhmm total gelangweilt wer will mit mir schreiben hab auch bilder von mir

  • @Ryanburke1989 I hear the same thing.

  • Shame the choir joined in . She really did not need any help. Magnificent.

  • NOssa!!! LINDO DEMAISS..sem palavras

  • oh my goodness God gave her such a beautiful voice!!!!!!! the flutes at the beginning are cool too^^

i admire renee's voice because she has such amazing breath support! i would love to have breath support like that!

  • In a world of thousands of sopranos,

Renee Fleming has rightfully reached the

top in her golden career, which was not handed to her on a silver platter.

  • I agree with u, however the flute intro was tastefully done. It would be best with only for the intro. Plus I'd be too busy singing to play the rest of the song on flue... ; )

  • I think the boys' choir was my favorite part....

  • that is a seriously flamboyant improvised flute part (kind of distracting though!)

  • Where do you get the flute part? I wanna play the flute into and sing this song for my midterm

  • Garnaca, don`t forget Elina Garanca`s intonation, which in my modest opinion, in "better" (whatever that is)

  • is it just be who hears the birds chirping at 4:09 -4:13 ? other than that PERFECT !

  • @ddsdbp yeah it't annoying when u hear it at the end

  • Brilliant singing! This is really the first time I've heard her sing. She's mentioned all of the time in the MET Opera's magazine, Opera News

  • @CubanGoddess93 Here in New York, there's a dessert named after Miss Fleming: "La Diva, Renee."

  • whoa! WHO HATES RENEE FLEMING!!!!????? she is the top opera singer in the world! (not including pavarotti ) I idle her. i sing opera as well, have been studying it for four years and i am 13 right now. Renee fleming is by far extraordinary.

  • Sir George Solti said of Fleming, "In my long life, I have met maybe two sopranos with this quality of singing, the other was Renata Tebaldi."

    Good enough for me :-)

  • operadiva023 You picked the right voice,Good Luck!

  • @operadiva023 its because she's so good that she has haters! I mean you know, with pro there's always anti!

  • @operadiva023 idolize* not idle...

  • @buhbl Yes I know, but I wasn't going to erase the whole comment because of one small spelling/grammar mistake.

  • @operadiva023 Instead of "idle", that would be "idolize", my dear. : )

Btw, I enjoy Ms Fleming too. She's in the opera Rusalka performing "Song to the Moon" at ruclip.com

I enjoy classic diva's such as Dame Sutherland et al, even Frederica von Stade is another favorite. I'm trying to become familiar with fresher talent such as Anna Netrebko, Carmen Monarcha, & even Summer Watson though she is more a crossover. Maybe u 2 someday?

  • @franknblunt haha yes I know about my spelling mistake, I didn't notice it until i posted it and I didn't want to rewrite it. :) I love anna netrebko too, I haven't heard of many of the newer people you mention, i will be sure to look into that. Yes hopefully I will be like that sometime too, I want to be an opera singer.

  • @operadiva023 "idle" is fine, lol. It's different. Far too many school teachers on here. I izeidol her.

  • @operadiva023 Check out Diana Damrau. She's amazing, too.

  • @operadiva023 If you're studying to be an opera singer, my dear, I think I should point out that you'll have to study to a high standard without achieving as much fame as other singers who aren't anywhere near as good as you are. When I was in Venice, I was discussing opera with two perfectly intellegent Italian Americans from New York state and neither of them had ever heard of Renee Fleming.

  • @operadiva023 you idle her?

  • @Philc103 idolize*

  • Spectacular! Renee is simply amazing. Where and when was this video taken?

  • wonderful control, just started to listen to rRenee

dont know where i have been.she is right on the top for me. wow lovely tone!

  • we sang this song in choir. its so hard. shes sings it so beautifully.

  • I seriously still find it hard to believe that she's fifty. She looks damned good for her age!

  • @tenor220 agree very youthful, most women do dont they ? I need to listen to Renee more

  • @tenor220 Dear Tenner, You've just had a much harder life by comparison; your disbelief is about that.

    .

    You'll get over it.

    .

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • @tenor220 Hey! Fifty is young... Wait when you get there.

  • @tenor220 Regretfully, I have to say. It gets us back to public image. I believe this lady was born in 1959, about a year later than a compatriot if hers, the late Michael Jackson. He didn't look anything like his age either. Lucky for both of them that I'm a music fan and not a gossip columnist. I could find unkinder words.

  • @tenor220 Renee looks damned good for ANY age!

  • Renee Fleming: Diva :)

  • FWIW (commenting on some of the earlier comments), an adult male who sings in the contralto range is called a counter tenor.

Alto can refer both to the vocal placement and to the choral part (as a short form of "contralto")...they're interchangeable.

The female/boy treble vocal placements are alto (or contralto), mezzo (or "second") soprano and soprano. The adult male vocal placements are bass, baritone, tenor and (in men and boy's choirs) counter tenor.

    .

  • I envy of Renee's voice. It's so warm and passionate, and perfectly suited for this song. This is almost too lovely. ;)

  • So much passion and kindness, I really really liked it...she´s a REAL singer!

  • GORGEOUS!!!! I swear... She makes it sound like any average Joe can sing this... I've sung this piece and it's not as easy as it sounds and my gosh... The release in her voice... Ahhh. :) It brings me to tears every time. <3

  • shes beautiful and has a beautiful voice

  • Elle fait craquer là Fleming ! c'est trop beau ! Et le pire c'est qu'elle est angélique !

    Faut mourir là, magni-fique !

    Bravo !

  • Beautiful performance - and her smile is very nice, it looks that she loves the song! My singing teacher also says that smiling eyes help the sound to get the right volume :).

  • I study and sing many classic Italian arias and opera piece. I am a dramatic tenor. In singing arias, the expression and proper breathing and vocalizing technique is very important unlike Pop, rock n roll and Hip Hops which does not take much skill to sing. Renee has a beautiful voice and is superb here especially her happy expression presenting this glorious spritual song which the composer Franck would appreciate.

  • I am really not understanding all of the nonsensical comments I have been reading. Renee Fleming has a beautiful voice. She has effortless control and amazing diction, and I hear nothing wrong with her Latin. Perhaps one has to be a singer to appreciate what she does with such grace and style. I dare you all to try this at home. "Panis Angelicus" may seem easy to sing, but is is actually a very difficult piece. Good luck!

  • Božské!!!

  • this video has 2 audio tracks I hear someone speaking in my right ear, annoying!

  • Me, too. Something else is interfering with Renee's artistry.

  • adoro músicas classicas este víkdeo é uma preciosidade ...parebens

  • wow. i love this. hate the crazy comment war below it...but i love the video.

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else not have sound in this video???? ANNOYING!!!

  • just you

  • Really? Frustrating! All other youtube videos work fine for me!

  • nossa que lindo realmente este vídeo é comovente...abçs

  • I wonder at what age renee knew that she really had it, she is so good.

  • Actually she had been singing her entirely life because her parents were music teachers and her original intention in college was to become one to till in graduate school one of her teachers said she had an amazing voice meant for something bigger than teaching, I am glad she picked opera :)

  • After she practiced about 30 years, she woke up one day, and said, "I think I really have it." =O)

  • Panis angelicus fit panis hominum; Dat panis caelicus figuris terminum: O res mirabilis! Manducat Dominum. Pauper, servus et humilis. The angelic bread becomes the bread of men; The heavenly bread ends all prefigurations: What wonder! consumes the Lord a poor and humble servant.
  • bravissima

  • Such a beautiful voice. I actually like it more than Maria Callas.

  • Comment removed

  • Frumoasa interpretare.Placut glas.Felicitari !

  • i love her voice, face expresion, dress and interpretation. All.

  • her hairstyle not on my list...I don't like it.

  • She's Great!!

  • i don't see why everyone seems to hate renee so much. she's a wonderful singer, with a beautiful, solid and easy technique.

half the people that hate her don't even sing, they just play some sort of instrument. well the voice is very very different from every other instrument, and you really shouldn't comment on it if you aren't a vocalist yourself.

  • what are those weird noises at the end?? sounded like a radio and birds chirping

  • Oh lala !!

    Nice performance

JL ( mystic / prophet )-channel

  • NON SI SENTA NA MAZZA

  • panis angelicus ,panis angelicus fit panis honimum dat panis coelicus figuris terminum o res mirabilis manducat dominum pauper pauper servus et humilis M.C.L.P.

  • WHY NO SOUND NOW?

  • Who the hell are you? I'm sure you could not sing or prepare it any better yourself. Ms. Fleming is 1000 times better of a person in every way than you'll ever be you stupid snob!

  • What kind of a question is that? You have NO IDEA who I am. Tell me something - what the hell do you know about Franck, the Panis Angelicus, musical structure, Latin diction or any other sophisticated topic? It is the sickening no-nothings - who think they know everything - that make this world the corrupt place that it is. Don't ever change, psycho.

  • "It is the sickening no-nothings - who think they know everything"

    Isn't the phrase "know-nothing?"

  • I suppose you've never made a typographical error. Now get lost.

  • "know nothings" is correct. "Know Nothing" was a political party in the mid 1800's, and some people used the term "know nothings" to refer to certain political members.

  • And how are you so 'sure' that I could not sing or 'prepare' it any better? Are you clairvoyant? Go back to hell where you belong, lowlife.

  • What the hell kind of pompous asshole are you? You, sir, also have NO IDEA who I am. You certainly sound like you are full of yourself. I know plenty about Latin diction, musical structure, and especially about the Panis Angelicus!

Ms. Fleming's rendition of Panis Angelicus is certainly not my favorite, but Ms. Fleming, and myself, are not perfect, but apparently you think you are. People like you who think you're above everyone are the real lowlifes and the ones who make me truly sick!

  • Take an aspirin if you feel sick, psycho.

  • To add to my comment below, who really cares about structural events in the piece and critiques and all that? YOU'RE the one who is miserable, because you think you have to analyze everything and then end up finding all that is wrong with the piece and nothing that is good. Chill out.

I am an expert in the legal field, but I don't go around belittling everyone who doesn't know as much about my given subject area like you do and insinuating that they are inferior because of it!

    Grow up!

  • Fair enough, fair enough, kind sir. I don't think I sounded like I was 7, but you are entitiled to your opinion. I appreciate your honesty and can tell you truly care about music and have a deep knowledge of it. I'm curious as to what your background in music is (not trying to be hostile, just curious). Why do you say Ms. Fleming doesn't care about what she's doing? She seems to be quite successful, are you saying that's where the connections come in?

  • Ms. Fleming's rendition is certainly not perfect, but what in life, is. Once again I must say that I'm sure you think YOU are. I find life is much more enjoyable when looking for the good in the arts rather than the flaws, which Ms. Fleming's rendition has, but that doesn't mean it still isn't stunning.

Is it lonely up there on your pedestal? You're probably one of those types that walks around talking in a fruity accent just to sound more sophisticated. You make me want to vomit with rage!

  • Wrong again. You can spend the rest of your miserable existence speculating about me. It will do you no good whatsoever. It will, however, make you even more miserable. And just because you SAY that you are knowledgeable means LESS THAN NOTHING. Proof is what we rely on. I defy you to name any five structural events in the Franck piece and their significance in the larger picture, and to offer a critique of the putrid flute line that destroys the performance even before Fleming utters a peep.

  • Dear sir,

I'm not miserable, I think you're the one who's miserable. I'm certainly no music major and most of that stuff you mentioned goes right over my head. I took a few classes as part of general requirements, but nothing intensive. I like Ms. Fleming piece, I think it's nice, not perfect at all, but still beautiful. I'm sorry I'm not some music snob like you are, but I'm glad I can enjoy a piece of music without criticizing every single second of it!

  • Is this a 'legal' tactic - spouting back the same 'I think YOU'RE miserable?' You sound like a 7-year old. And you can believe whatever you wish - including that I am a snob - that is your right. And how the hell do you know that I don't enjoy music, despite my consummate knowledge of its structure, style and historical placement? As I said before, you must be clairvoyant.

  • I'm sorry to imply that you are miserable, but I'm honestly guessing that you just have higher standards when it comes to music than most do, nothing wrong with that!

  • wrong on all counts. i have read both yours and organman's comments. he is justified and speaks the truth. not surprised you're in the legal field where you thief lawyers charge $300 an hour minimum in a system that never supports pro-se litigation. must be nice. you and your name calling to do not bode well for your professional manners.

  • Yes, sir. I have realized that Mr. Organman52 is much more educated in music than I am. I agree with you about the thief lawyers! I'm not a lawyer, I really don't even like them, I just work for them! I basically do the same thing that they do, but get $20 an hour for my services while they charge the client $85, plus I don't get my name on the door or any of the bonuses! At least I'm not paying off 100,000+ in law school student loans though!

  • Can I ask if you have sound for this video? I no longer have sound for it.

  • @organman52 I find Fleming's voice absolutely beautiful as do many of the finest opera houses around the world where she has performed for so long. To have this exquisite video juxtaposed with your comments is proof of heaven and hell. I wonder what produces an adult like you. I know child abuse can cause lifetime damage.

  • @gczwarkiel Exactly. Opera houses do not care about the structural importance of the SILENCES. I have worked with hundreds of 'singers' and not ONE of them understand the importance of the SPACES BETWEEN THE NOTES. Reason - they are intellectually stunted and only care about SOUND.

  • beautiful.

  • My, my, my, I love Renee! She is very amazing and is a very beautiful woman!

  • Just a few more notes and I'll be an alto!

  • This is a beautiful song, and sung by a beautiful voice, too!
