@kermitneville, this bit used to scare me too when I was growing up..I think it's the sound of the guy's voice coupled with the odd music. I actually would run out of the room whenever it came on!
@spiritunes Definitely the guy's voice (and the way he tells the story) and ESPECIALLY the terribly creepy music. I'm 41 now and this still gives me chills!
This bit used to scare the shit out of me whenever it came on. For like, years afterwards. Any psych majors out there have an idea why? Watching it now, I'm just like, whatever...
Thanks, that's a great theory. The beginning would especially freak me out, how it all comes in so starkly. Anyway, there might be more to this if you consider someone like freaky artist Nik Blinko. He once planted one of his one paintings in the ground, claiming it would grow into other paintings. Odd parallels abound.
@kermitneville I agree with auntygabby... the audio is very psychedelic. And the animation also reminds me of some of the old 1970's children's fairy tale books that had some edge to them (the etched lines for shadow and only the moving characters having any color while the background is stark black and white line drawings). All that gives a very detached feel to it.
If he planted a k, he'd go to a place where they rode in kars & on kites, ate kohlrabi & ketchup, had kangaroos, koalas, & kittens, & paricipated in kickboxing. Did I miss anything?
Also, the voice of the letter 'b' in this clip is the same as (or strongly resembles) the voice of: 1. the man wearing the hat in the animated 'Letter Q - Funny Looking Thing' clip, and 2. The voice who asks the man 'Do You Know What Backwards Means?' in the live-action skit with that name (and then says 'Then we'll show you what 'backwards' means!') Am I right? Anyone out there know for sure? Thanks in advance.
Not g, it's b in our fair land, for things with b are really grand!
