s44 is still in force, it has simply been qualified. The issue was never the use of s44 near target buildings in this way, it was the London wide s44 authority in place for years on end. If there is suspicion then s43 applies as well :)

He is filming outside an embassy to see if he can provoke a reaction which he gets. The officer is polite and doesn't manhandle him, in US they would have beaten the shit out of him, kicked his camera and tased him for good luck. If he was filming the Royal Palace or a protest that is a different matter. What more do you want from the police? US is one example but you don't have to go that far to see a real difference. Have you ever seen Italian, Spanish or Russian cops?

@browna3tg the actual point I was making was that after the Officer told the guy to stop filming the building, he then went on to tell the guy not to film him, which sounds like pot & kettle when you consider the Police have cameras on their helmets and film people all day long. During protests some Officers even refuse to give their numbers when asked (they are not visible on their clothing when wearing riot gear), which again is double standards. To be fair, the guy did have a reason. America is a target for many terrorist groups. In a different situation if you actually were a terrorist, and the guy thought "ah well, he's just filming the Embassy, no danger" and let you go ahead, a month later boom Embassy goes down. if you are ASKED what is on the camera and it is innocent photographs of a tourist nature why not show them, then any suspicion is removed and no one gets searched?
s44 is still in force, it has simply been qualified. The issue was never the use of s44 near target buildings in this way, it was the London wide s44 authority in place for years on end. If there is suspicion then s43 applies as well :)

The MOD police officers present were polite, explained what they were doing, acted within the law (s44 Terorism Act is still in force, see below). Perhaps if some members of the public engaged in civilised discussion with the police they would realise that most police officers want to do their jobs as quickly and easily as possible
