The books are very different from the Movie. Maryann is shown very little in the books, (thank gawd), and the "sex" orgy that sookie goes to is put on by a bunch of the older town people. Sookie gets invited and goes because she's trying to find out who killed someone. Bill is not around, so she takes Eric. Eric is pretending his Bi - and dresses in a pink lycra outfit and they go off to the party together.

bill cheated on sookie with lorena. also, the real reason bill was pursuing sookie in the first place was because the queen of louisiana told him to. she heard about sookie's abilities from her cousin and wanted to get on sookie's good side and protect her so she sent bill to do it and told him to seduce her if he had to. he did and eventually he did grow to love her for real but still... he LIED to her.
