  • This song is still a groove, raychapa01

  • I can't believe that I just happened to stumble on this work of art for the first time in August. They do Marvin proud. Nate Watts CAN sing too.....and to be backed up by Philip Bailey and Phil Perry......It doesn't get any better than that.

  • cual de todos los instrumentos, incluida la vos puede sonar mejor exelente

    fourplay

  • Isn't it a bit weird that Phil Perry's not singing this instead?

  • @msantaka : Nathan East sang it on the record, and in person

  • @Nupeman1972 : Oh? I always thought Al deBarge originally sang this song in the album. Thx for the info.

  • The master is on the piano Bob James .

  • To have these gentlemen all on the same stage is a phenomimal spectacle to be sure. They are magnificent musicians indeed.

  • amazing..both phil singing back up..

  • Mr. Tonedeff isn't around I guess to respond to derr, but I respectfully agree with him. By the way, Lee is the correct name for Mr. Rit... Not sure what your disagreement is, derr. Have a good, derr, day... It's only music.

  • @dmemswiler no it's not Lee! err derr, what's happened to Mr Tonedeff, is he OK? having a good day, I didn't have any disagreement with him, I just like to write nonsense

  • Mr. Tonedeff isn't around I guess to respond to derr, but I respectfully agree with him. By the way, Lee is the correct name for Mr. Rit... Not sure what your disagreement is, derr. Have a good, derr, day... It's only music.

  • @saracin1973 Marvin - best of the best!!! icon of soul, man power :Ь

  • my favourite song.

    mr P.Bailey! surprised

  • I did not know that Bob James sang negro. (well he oughta by now but... )

    Who knew?

  • Where's El? I was duped in the search,LOL. Philip rocks too, though : )

  • @MsReeReeChiq El DeBarge may not have been in any condition or incarcerated when this was recorded.

I'm glad to see El has a new release. Jimmy Jam/T. Lewis, L.A and Babyface among others worked on it. One.

  • Man, I knew Nathan East was great on bass, but dude can blow too. Unfair. Still I,ve been searching unsuccessfully for the album cut featuring El DeBarge. Can anyone post it?

  • This is good, but everytime I listen to a Marvin Gaye cover I hear Marvin Gaye's original version in my head as well as the version of the artist(s) covering it...And since I hear two version i can't help but compare...and since I compare I can't help but realize that one is better than the other...and since I find one to be better than the other, the lesser one sounds bad in comparision...and that one is never Marvin.

  • my favorite part.. 3:06 the guitar piece...

  • The best Jazz I ever heard in my Life is that one

  • One of BEST songs ever from 1991-92

  • Isn´t that Abe laboriel old bass that Nathan plays?

  • I agree, love Bob James as well as Four play.

  • Nathan has very nice head voice. How does manage to play solid and sensitive bass at the same time? Great

  • 6:45 to 7:05 it never gets old. perfect voice.

  • @atenori111 sorry...Phil Perry is a black man my dear!!!

  • marvin would be proud.

  • Nathan East makes much more, than "tackle and sing occasional paw-waws". He's real cap!

  • some of the finest musicians from the last four decades.ritenour is known for his class guitar work on give me the night and the floyd cut one of my turns.nathan has played with micheal, quincy jones and clapton.bob scored serpico and taxi and harvey has played with the brothers johnson ,herbie hancock and george benson.between them they have worked with the best and are world class compared to todays wannabees! who mime and pose and have zero talent!!

  • @MrTonedeff you got most of that completely wrong, for a start it's not Lee Ritenour, I don't think anyone mimes these days, especially those with talent! Yes MrTonedeff! derrr

  • @isleoforkney please tell me what i got wrong about the musicians background,to the best of my knowledge the trivia is all fact! there are a lot of mediocre "celebrity" types who are just posers with no talent just "attitude" which is all they seem to have!

  • @MrTonedeff you didn't get anything wrong, the trivia is all fact, I think your other points were valid too, some of my comments are meaningless rubbish, sorry to bother you with it ; )

  • @isleoforkney hey no problem your,e entitled to your opinion ,i,m generalising about today,s artist,s clearly their not all untalented, susan boyle and leonna lewis are good singer,s .i just think the majority of singer types from X factor and the like are at best kareoke singers best enjoyed when one is pissed!!

  • @MrTonedeff Good post! A little addition: Rit also played on Floyd's Comfortably Numb and did the orgasmic solo on the Brothers Johnson Strawberry Letter No 23 and well as copious rythym parts.

  • @BadSneakers hey badsneakers cool name by the way (love steely dan) thanks, yeah rit has played so many rhythm parts like tom brownes funkin for jamaica, you make me feel like dancing by leo sayer, love is the answer by england dan and john ford coley.also he has done twin rhythm parts with steve lukather on several tunes great players both! larry carlton, jay graydon, dean parks, rit, luke, dann huff, mike landau the list of players of similar calibre played on the best top forty hits ever!

  • @MrTonedeff I totally agree. Todays so called stars are nothing but strip dancers (Beyonce) etc. They don't have any talent and don't play any instruments. But it's the record business fault, they used to nurture talents but today they are only interrested in maximizing profits for the stockholders who give a shit about music. It's just like any other commodity they invest in and not art. It's a sad sad world we live in.

  • Great cover... I like it better than the original, and this is coming from a huge Marvin Gaye fan!

  • I love the sounds at the start of the video and at 3:30, Lee Ritenour looks sexy in this video to me, and everyone really performed well. I've always loved fourplay because they are one of the smoothest jazz groups around..

  • Phil Perry & Philip Bailey!!

  • i THOUGHT THAT WAS THEM!!

  • @catsduke I love me some Philip Bailey...EWF fan 4ever.....Lady L.

  • Where's El Debarge?...naw this jam needs him....its enuogh trying to cover Marvin...if you're going to cover him you need all your horses...this version doesn't have them

  • hello everybody, fourplay lovers. I just want to ask you where can I have the lyrics of this song? thanks a lot for reply me the source of the lyric. Fourplay Forever (FF)

  • WONDERFUL, remake of "After the Dance." It's pretty difficult to compete with Marvin Gaye. I love this though

  • Yes, I agree but I love this mix!

  • I just love Four Play

  • im looking for the cut when el debarge performed this tune with fourplay now el debarge hit the notes like none ive heard i have the song but was hoping to show my girl the cut

  • Phil Perry. One of the best singers ever.

  • who is the singer the big light skin brotha?Forgot his name

  • @bostonchip2006 Phil Perry. He does a lot of jazzed up R&B covers up of uptempo standards. Real good stuff. Peace.

  • this is the jam

  • its nathan east singing

  • yeahhhh :-))

  • Isn't that Phil Perry as one of the vocalist?

  • yes

  • Had this CD when it first came out, man ages ago, and never get tired of it.

This version is great. Loved it, you guys are the best, thanks!

  • Marvin is way better them

  • Where in the hell is El Debarge on this cut?

  • probably jsut got out or was in jail

  • @wkndchica El Debarge was the perfect lead on this when it came out in 91'

  • @rufus317 I know, right? He was so smooth; I hope he can pull it back together; or you would think they would put a greatest hits together for him to help him out!

  • I would say, the background vocal team is more famous than the rest. Phil Perry really brought a great contribution.

I got the record but this version I prefer, thanks

  • is that Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire?

  • Looks like him; but why would he be doing backup work?

  • He was asked. This DVD is almost 10 yrs old.

  • That was about the time that music creativity really took a drastic dive, groups and bands were being replace with this computer music, so the road shows bands like his did became less in demand and more of a (wow I remember that, real musicans) but the syblimal pornish dumb down took over the lyrics and the Arena's, more like ONLY for the money music, inspiration became a luxury not a reason for recording, so I can see why this had to happen, still some trying to play from the raw but few, peace

  • yeah, xanmere, that's Phillip Bailey and that's also Phil Perry, underrated and great singer from da '90s

  • Hell Yeah

  • MR. BOB JAMES

  • Lady at 5:02..Lawd..can I dance with you babe??? LOL

  • can I dance with you babe at 5:02 ?

I want you and you want me, so

let`s get together after the dance ,

  • Beautiful!

  • Damn! look at Phil Perry and Phillip Bailey! Those guys can go hard. Never knew the guy singing could ACTUALLY SING! he is great! Almost sounds better than when they did the video with El Debarge!!!!!!

  • That cut with Lee Reitnor @3:31 and in the beginning is the Bomb... Well Done! so smooth right on time !

  • @bintsaundra IYeah it was great I didn't know a guitar could make that sound simply amazing.

  • you gotta love Beetlejuice live on lead guitar plus that girl at 5:03 is HOT!

  • that's guitar leged, Lee Ritneour! LOL

  • ♪♪♪ simple amazing!

  • So sweet. My first time seeing this video. Like El D. version but Nathan East might just be knockin him off the block... DANG! Go ahead Nate! (and of course, goes without saying -Marvin is the man) The whole group together just flows amazing.

    Thanks for this!

  • Good cover, Marvin Gaye would have been proud.

  • Alright 4 Fourplay redition of After the Dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OOH! better than foreplay! Nathan East is a cool vocalist too.

  • This is the whip remake of Marvin Gaye's song ! I like whe El Debarge sang with as well! 10
