Some similarities, I think the most between Cane Corso and Presa Canario. Dogo Argentino different temperament and purpose. DA is a hunting dog, presa and CC at this moment protecion/guard dogs They do have similar things but when you are speinding time with them you see the differences. Hard to say in short comment

But this does not mean they need to lose their function of guard and defence and they are great in this to not beeing vicious animals out of control. Far from that. A good working dog is in the first place balanced dog that is as good in the family as in work. There is no place for unstable and dengerous animals in this.

FACT: This dog was bred in the 1800's specifically for dog fighting....it is an ancestor of the now extinct Bardino Majero and a English Mastiff. and anyone claiming Bardino's are not extict;is simply an idiot. the breed was washed out and watered down for hundreds of years. @superTHODORIS I don't agree with that. Bad breedings and/or innapropriate socialization create dog agression and that is not a specific Presa Canario trait, but a problem common to all dog breeds. However, Presas are strong-willed, powerful dogs and if not socialized correctly can be very hard to handle, be it around other dogs/animals or people.

@superTHODORIS You should learn more about dogs and less about "dogmen". "Pitbulls" are very used in fighting due to their athletic and temperamental characteristics. That mix of power, agility and drive makes them excel in that and in many other activities. They were bred for the purpose of fighting and that's why they are good at it, not because of agression (although the assholes that do dog fighting usually stimulate agression in them, to potentiate their effectiveness even more).
@superTHODORIS My dogs are very athletic! Even my 13 year old labrador! Up to his 10th year he could literally stay for hours fetching balls that i threw behind the waves at the beach! He would swim past the waves, retrieve it and ask for more! My presa is only a year and a half, about 50 Kg and 65 cm at the whithers. I haven't physically trained him hard as he is still very young but he is in good shape, believe me! :)

where on Earth do you get your information from? I've been to the Basque region. I've been to Encarta, I've seen the REAL THING (Alanos & Villanos). ALanos never went extinct. A population of 300 were found in the Basque region. Extensive research was conducted at the University Of Cordoba & the dogs were in fact the fabled Spanish Bulldog.
I've seen both alanos and presas in spain. And presa is at the same level as alano when it comes to purity. Or rather was, Fanciers of all the breeds like to belive in purity and that their breed is something special but it's not. Alano were also breed with other breeds to recover the population. The work was better than in case of presa and breeders take much care to select the most pure spicimns and eliminate characteristicks of other breeds.
@ReyGladiador I just bought a presa and an akita puppy. Hopefully, with them growing up together they will get along but they have some rough play time. My akita usually gets the better of him with his height but my presa gets under him and sweeps his legs haha

Ya, I read about both. I heard that in the S.F. case those dogs were intentionally bred/raised by criminals to kill. But, apparently the one in Florida was raised properly and it ended up turning on the owner. I am going to continue researching before I get one. I do need a bad-ass guard dog, so it's either a Presa, or something of it's nature. Any suggestions? I live in S. Cali, and he'd have to live outside in a dog house.
@afglbc7 Pit bulls are great dogs. With any breed though I don't think you should just leave them outside. I feel like they lose touch with their owners. Take them for runs or walks. That'll be a great way to bond. From my experience with pit bulls they have been nothing but loving and loyal. Try rescuing one from the pound!

@afglbc7 I think you could go with a cane corso. They are sort of high-energy compared to the neo mastiff, but they're great protection/guard dogs and they're not aggressive with family; as with any dog, you would have to establish yourself as the alpha. It's not healthy for a dog to live outside separated from all stimulation at all times. He will need daily walks and a training regimen.
A dog is only as good as its owner - that's why here in the UK there are banned breeds of dogs. Scum bags like to buy pit bulls etc to look hard! So far, Presa's and Cane Corso's are not banned dogs (YET) - but in the wrong hands, these dogs could become very dangerous. Poor dogs will either end up in rescue or Put To Sleep cos of irresponsible ownership.

You need to ask breeders as sometimes certain breedings have different prices. And breeders have different prices between them.. There is a very big range of prices. Ask for certain breeding and certain pupp and you'll get the answer

OMF people.... this was a character TEST. Now he knows what this dog will do in a given situation, makes it SO much easier to protect the dog, and "innocents". I believe every dog should be put to this test, from mastiff's to poodles. Problems with fear or aggression can crop up in many other ways, I wear the scars to prove it, I've bled a lot for my rescued dogs.

FACT: This dog was bred in the 1800's specifically for dog fighting....it is an ancestor of the now extinct Bardino Majero and a English Mastiff. and anyone claiming Bardino's are not extict;is simply an idiot. the breed was washed out and watered down for hundreds of years. Fear bites do not have much grip and are usually just "nibbles"... you can see how he loses the grip at 2:36 and the decoy tries to ammend the dog's lack of confidence by giving him the sleeve... The presa/dogo canario striving today is not in the right path... :/

@superTHODORIS I don't agree with that. Bad breedings and/or innapropriate socialization create dog agression and that is not a specific Presa Canario trait, but a problem common to all dog breeds. However, Presas are strong-willed, powerful dogs and if not socialized correctly can be very hard to handle, be it around other dogs/animals or people.

@superTHODORIS You should learn more about dogs and less about "dogmen". "Pitbulls" are very used in fighting due to their athletic and temperamental characteristics. That mix of power, agility and drive makes them excel in that and in many other activities. They were bred for the purpose of fighting and that's why they are good at it, not because of agression (although the assholes that do dog fighting usually stimulate agression in them, to potentiate their effectiveness even more).

@superTHODORIS My dogs are very athletic! Even my 13 year old labrador! Up to his 10th year he could literally stay for hours fetching balls that i threw behind the waves at the beach! He would swim past the waves, retrieve it and ask for more! My presa is only a year and a half, about 50 Kg and 65 cm at the whithers. I haven't physically trained him hard as he is still very young but he is in good shape, believe me! :)

where on Earth do you get your information from? I've been to the Basque region. I've been to Encarta, I've seen the REAL THING (Alanos & Villanos). ALanos never went extinct. A population of 300 were found in the Basque region. Extensive research was conducted at the University Of Cordoba & the dogs were in fact the fabled Spanish Bulldog.

I've seen both alanos and presas in spain. And presa is at the same level as alano when it comes to purity. Or rather was, Fanciers of all the breeds like to belive in purity and that their breed is something special but it's not. Alano were also breed with other breeds to recover the population. The work was better than in case of presa and breeders take much care to select the most pure spicimns and eliminate characteristicks of other breeds.

Ya, I read about both. I heard that in the S.F. case those dogs were intentionally bred/raised by criminals to kill. But, apparently the one in Florida was raised properly and it ended up turning on the owner. I am going to continue researching before I get one. I do need a bad-ass guard dog, so it's either a Presa, or something of it's nature. Any suggestions? I live in S. Cali, and he'd have to live outside in a dog house.

@afglbc7 Pit bulls are great dogs. With any breed though I don't think you should just leave them outside. I feel like they lose touch with their owners. Take them for runs or walks. That'll be a great way to bond. From my experience with pit bulls they have been nothing but loving and loyal. Try rescuing one from the pound!

They are sort of high-energy compared to the neo mastiff, but they're great protection/guard dogs and they're not aggressive with family; as with any dog, you would have to establish yourself as the alpha. It's not healthy for a dog to live outside separated from all stimulation at all times. He will need daily walks and a training regimen.

So far, Presa's and Cane Corso's are not banned dogs (YET) - but in the wrong hands, these dogs could become very dangerous. You need to ask breeders as sometimes certain breedings have different prices. And breeders have different prices between them.. There is a very big range of prices. Ask for certain breeding and certain pupp and you'll get the answer
