High school theatre is terrible no matter where you go or who you are. What just pushes this off the edge and sets it apart from all other high schools' terribleness is the disgusting amount of crying babies in the house.
@pavito9lindo Because they're trying to be supportive. They saw that something went wrong and then appluaded when they tried to fix it, spurring them on. They weren't being rude. Silence would make the situation even worse.
you guys are not very good improvisers... when I was in high school our director had us improvise to any and all sorts of situations hahahaha one time he had us improvise to babies crying in the audience, phones ringing, props missing, scenery falling, wrong music, people forgetting lines, it was a lot of fun!! Let's just say we were ready for anything that could go wrong hahaha
Brilliant, thanks SO much for posting this! These things happen, guys, it's part of the fun of live theater--its unpredictability. Kudos to you guys for keeping a sense of humor and soldiering on. I am still giggling. Hilarious!
i hate babies SOOO MUCHHHH!!! actually in my high school for one of our musicals two people fell 35 feet from the scaffolding. one was fine but the other one was messed up in the leg. at least she got a handicapped parking permit and a permanent pass out of P.E.!!
We don't kill actors and honestly I would call in a professional company to do any flying of people. If I had one antecedent like that my career would be over.
Last time my high school did Peter Pan (year before I was a freshman) one of the Lost Boys ended up smashing into the top of a flat as he flew in from upstage. Poor kid was crying because he thought he ruined the play. Of course, then he became one of the top comic actors in the entire school.....
If you patent alarm clocks the yank people out of bed like that in the morning, instances of school and work tardiness would drop completely...at least for those that don't suffer concussions.
who the hell brings a baby to a play? yeah i saw the set fall but all i heard was a crying baby. that's rude, like bringing a baby to a movie theater.
what difference does it make that Patti Lupone broke character? as an actress myself, i know how difficult it is to act with a photographer flashing their camera right in front of you. that has caused me and some of my friends to lose character by itself. its incredibly distracting. although i do think the actress' here did a great job of handling the situation, as stage blunders are inredibly hard to ignore.
How can you say this is the fault of the rigging/rigger? It's pretty simple to see what happened - your flyers pulled the wrong ropes at the wrong time.
I understand nobody wants to point fingers and lay the blame on anyone. They just want to laugh it off but, if someone got seriousally injured you wouldn't be able to just laugh it off and someone would have to take responsibility. I'm glad nobody was hurt and that's what makes it so funny.
I'm glad nobody got seriousally injured. It's easy to laugh it off and not point fingers at who's to blame when nobody gets hurt but, if someone got hurt badly than it wouldn't be so easy to laugh off. Somebody would have to take responsibility. It is funny only cause nobody was hurt.
Ha! Does the uploader know that this video is on Comcast OnDemand's "stupid videos" section now? It can be seen on cable boxes all over the United States now! :D
wow, that stinks. our director had as watch this to 'prove' how dangerous using our old flying rigs are. But we ended up being fine. we're your other nights okay?
@bumblebree2012 Yea, everything else went absolutely fine the other two nights. To be honest, I think the only thing I was nervous about was standing behind that window every night!
Yeah, they pulled the wrong strings. They were supposed to make Peter Pan fly, but the girl started flying instead... XDDD I heard from my music teacher about how the play went.
LMAO i know this is probably not meant to be funny, but tears are coming out of my eyes right now. Despite all the mishaps I know the show probably received alot of laughs and the students had fun creating it. Look at Peter Pan after the 2nd mishap.
This reminds me of one of my friends, Bo Smith. Peter Pan was his first show when he was a freshman, and he was one of the Lost Boys. During one of the performances he didn't have enough height to fly over the set and ended up whacking into it as he entered the scene. He was crying when he got down because he was afraid he ruined the show.
Worst spot lights I've ever seen. I almost missed the falling window and wendy getting torn out of her bed because I was busy looking at how bad the spotlights where.
I'm glad nobody was hurt. Congratulations to the cast and crew for carrying on, when they probably just wanted to crawl under a rock. I remember the time an M-80 firecracker blew up in my face during a high school play. I fell to the floor, clutching my ears in pain. The audience thought it was part of the show, and howled with laughter, which added to my embarrassment. This is the performance everyone in the show will always remember, and will look back on with great humor.
I applaud you guys for finishing the show despite this happening. And thank you for posting this on youtube, it makes me crack up every time I watch it (:
I did the spotlights and...let me say... I almost pissed myself laughing up there!!!!! Greenport, land of the randomest but most treasurable of life's moments :-P
honestly as long as you covered it up... in professional theatre you gotta work with it though.. like instead of forgetting your line and running over to pick up the set, you have to improv, and say something like "oh look, the wall caved in... capt hook's pissed." (definitely don't say that, but you get my jist...) but seriously tho, it's high school, shit happens, and you fixed it. so don't worry.

Obviously the set was a problem on at least two levels. First, it is period incorrect.
It looks more 1940s/1950s than 19th Century, which is the time of the story. The second point is that of the set not being properly anchored.
