no it can not do 720p (bah!), and the 1080p is very uncompressed so it chews up memory fast (the video IS very good though). I'm liking this camera very much, but not that the T2i is out I really wish I had waited a few months (even though i'd had to pay almost twice as much)
Hi guys, in order to play full HD videos correctly and smoothly, you will need a powerful computer. If you have a laptop forget it unless you have a laptop with a good processor and a good video card which is difficult. Don't forget it is not about memory it is about processing power. If you have a desktop, the easy way to solve freezing problems while playing HD video is to get a HD video card. Hope it helps.
this isn't really true. I can play hd (from this camera) smoothly on my netbook and my several year old sony vaio laptop. It depends very much on the video player you use. Something like VLC will choke if on an underpowered computer, but try something like kmplayer and you will be shocked (no, this is not a paid endorsement, just try it)
convert the archive .mov to mpg2 or avi, with a program. I use Koyote Free video converter. (search it in google). It loose quality, but is the only way I can watch my movies in the PC. The best quality I got is .mov to DVD ( .vob).
One Questión : Why the .mov clips filmed in Sx1 is freeze and jumping on my pc, i try to reproduce in quicktime, videolan, and others ...have any codec especial for canon? Do you Know this? thanks in advance
If you are considering the Sony HX-1 or Canon SX1 IS, you should also consider the Casio EX-F1 because it has a focus ring around the lens, a external mic jack, a hot shoe, a threaded lens for UV filters, and slow motion (if you want a fun bonus). Hard to believe it's from Casio. The problem is the price.
Yes, It's crazy that Canon thinks it's OK to only record 1:30 of video. Sony HX-1 and Casio EX-F1 is 30 min. For that reason alone, I cant get the Canon.
I bought SX1 IS 3 days ago and when I try to record HD movie at low light there is so much noise that the movie is unwatchable. I just can't setup the correct formula to record HD movies at low light.
I saw HD movies from you and other users of SX1 IS and the movies are wonderful.
Please, I really need help.
What is the right setting to record these beautiful movies at low light?
Well if you get that amount of noise in similar conditions as in the video I'd recommend taking the camera back to the store and asking replacement. That sounds like a bad cell.
It looks very nice.. good quality and good sharpness, the colors also are good and you see the quality of the glass.
It is good that these days we don't have to choose between good photographs and good videos. Even the sound was decent! Better then the gurgle you did get in the past.
I have this camera with a 32GB memory card and it recorded approximately 100 minutes of full HD video at 1080p 16:9 aspect ratio... vYour best bet is to get a Class 6 or higher SDHC card with this camera
If you're planning to do lots of videos, the SX1 is the way to go. Otherwise, take the SX10, which costs way less and has better image quality (for stills), because the ccd has less noise than the cmos used in the sx10.
I've got this camera, you don't know what your talking about, the video is AMAZING uploaded on You Tube or not! Any video taken at dusk would be less sharp you IDIOT! Geeeezzzzzz
Wow.... To say this is a flash video, and simply not showing the full HD capability of the camera.... Iam looking for a camera and making my decision, this kind of video just makes me dribble with joy!
When i watch my own HD vids on a 50" tv... This is going to be something else ^_^
Yes I can and am in no need of an optician, however, I stick by my original premise: that HD really only applies to those making or watching Blue-ray DVDs, and watching on a proper 1080p TV with HDMI connection.
The internet is not the place to judge HD.
In this country, even HD digital TV broadcasts look better on a conventional TV with conventional scanning and 625 lines.
As far as I am aware YouTube is still using the Flash-player to view videos, even if showing an "HD" function. All videos are converted to Flash to show them.
Although these HD videos look better, sharper and with better definition, they are not true HD in the technical sense of the word. What you see depends on your graphics card, download speed and most of all; your monitor's capability.
Very good quality. Could you please take and upload a video where the camera is panning? I want to buy an SX1 but I read it distorts images (most obvious is a skew of vertical lines) when taking a video and the camera is moving horizontally.
I hear AGC.... Unless there is a highway nearby.

sir what do you mean by fmt=22 for HD?
davidtejones 2 years ago
before HD became the default for Broadband video, you needed to append &fmt=22 to the URL to get it to play in HD. &fmt=18 for HQ.
Nowadays it defaults to HD for you, or you can press the convenient HD button.

Love the HD mode. Only one drawback is that Canon only lets you record up to 1:30 minutes continuously in HD.

if i took videos with the sx10 will it be hd on the camera or will i have to change it on the computer???

The SX1 cannot display HD itself unless connected to a tv via HDMI. They always remain HD, on and off the camera's SD memory.

Looks great but not very sharp. I'm assuming it's not ultra sharp because it was reduced for youtube. Shame we can't see the source.
I'm still trying to decide between the SX10 and this one the SX1. This is a great case for the SX1
