"Very very heavy, no flexibility, arrow can pierce it easily"
Please check out the channel of YouTube user ThegnThrand, and you will learn how REAL viking/saxon round shields were made and how they handle. You'll be suprized how agile those shields were. Many modern reproductions are mostly indeed too heavy and inaccurate.
Tell me if that policeman of this 'crack troops' that speak at 0:42 is a castrate or just a boy of 12 that has not gone his muation yet. But then why he is serving in this force? Do British don't have some real men for such a job?
Of course it was an irony if you know what it means. It requires at least about 20 IQ level which you obviously lack. Do not bother yourself replying - emails from halfwits (once they have disclosed themselfs as you did) are ignored by me.
Aside from the female dressed like a man, a decent segment to a great vid. Does anyone know the name of the Viking hero who held up the Saxon advance?
Jup, but i learned him as Harald Hardraarda, he was a viking legend. In Constantinople he earned his fame by killing almost the half of the guards on his own. But what a anticlimaxic end, stuck down from below....
No one really knows his name, if you can read Old Norse then read the Sagas of the Vikings, it is likely in there. Feel sorry for him, he got a spear in his bollocks
I disagree. There was slang back then, too. (For instance: "bollocks" meant "nonsense" even then.) It's not as though everyone in late Saxon England spoke "proper" West Saxon. In fact, probably very few did, and these were educated. If you could faithfully translate what they would have said into modern English as of 2010, there would be plenty of "and we were like..."-type expressions.
spear to the balls? now that's just bad sportsmanship!

"wooden shield + chainmail = 50 pounds"
That's more accurate. 12lbs wooden shield covered with leather, 25lbs maille, 3lbs helmet, gambeson, shoes, spear, sword.

LDD86 11 months ago 4
@LDD86 It is a pity that more people know Stamford Bridge as the stadium rather than the heroic victory. Oh well, thats modern society :(

It seems they are using the more flexible roman formation rather than the shield wall or phalanx.
