  • Love this song!!!!!

  • Nice!!! thank you Phill:)

  • J'aime le chanson d'armour.

  • quelle belle chanson

  • I met these folks at a Grammy Awards party during the peak of their popularity and they were very friendly and approachable. Janis asked me if I'd like to dance, but I had to decline because I didn't know how. Count Basie and his orchestra were playing. Cheryl tried to get me to try but I was just too bashful at the time.

The risk of being laughed at doesn't compare with the regret of an opportunity lost. ;-)

  • AYBS Forever!!!!!

  • C'est juste cultissime !!! Une chanson douce qui vaut toutes les lady gaga du monde ... à mon avis ... ^^

  • Happy days! My sister and I were taught to jive to this song, then when we got the basics we went on to rock and roll songs. :)

WE HAD LITTLE ELSE TO SING ABOUT

  • C bien qu on le veuille ou non

  • ioa ioae, ioa ioae

  • The reason a lot of Americans don't understand it is because Spanish is the second language that they are taught in school. In England the second language taught is French.

Perhaps they should stick to perfecting English before they move on to another.

  • I used to wake up to this on the radio before going to school! :o)

  • fantastico!, grabacion original del MM77!!!!!!!.

  • i thought it was french....but its american........ :-(

  • @supertchoupi 1977, en Palma de Mallorca.

  • Now Laurel and Janis return to sing TOGETHER AGAIN !! they have formed together with Lauren Kinhan the vocal group called "JALALA"

  • Beautiful song. Sadly you don't hear anything like this nowadays.

  • @bunchie1966 Play it again then

  • @pefawi Well yes, playing it again is very nice; but my point was that the quality of the music that the record companies are pouring out now is pretty abysmal - with very few exceptions.

  • Play it again then

  • Good 1 majorsnag!!!

  • LOVE IT ANY SUGESTIONS FOR THE FOR GARDENER ;) MUSIC THAT IS

    5*****s

  • Damn...

  • When I first heard this song, I didn't like it. But the more I heard it, I liked it.

  • era el año 78, o sea hace mas de 20 años

  • i too think of that episode. fantastic show but of course their crafts are vastly different and each are superb in what they do.... especially laurel masse.

  • That Bald guy looks out of place, looks like their dad drunk at a party.

  • @celtno1

That bald guy is Tim Hauser, the founder of the group.

In their day, no one could touch their sound.

  • @celtno1 he's probably the talented one who writes all the songs...

  • Traditional French romance captured in a jar then squeezed for want of more of her voice. This is yearning from the 21st Century. By God, I wish I had a time machine.

Our century is dead from the neck up compared to this ostensibly trivial little song.

  • great song great voice....thanks Youtube for those finds......like this one

    Mo'Sean "Give you my soul"

  • I once saw these perform live when I lived in London, and they "really" were a "Class Act".

Their Dress and their Voices and Timing were utterly superb.I went away very impressed. That was a long long time ago though,I had just turned 19/20 years old,so 1982/3 a eon ago.

  • Ahh life as it should be.

  • brings back my childhood pmsl

  • I think I am going to vomit................

  • remember this being Number one in 1977 and Legs and Co were dancing to it on Top of the Pops.

  • Rat da dat da dat! Like a gay machinegun, as the german Entertainer Stumpen said. :D

Stumpen von der deutschen Band Knorkator hat vor kurzem diesen Song Karaoke gesungen, und das Publikum sollte den "Rat da dat da dat"- Teil wie ein schwules Maschinengewehr mitsingen. ^^

  • @MarceloNunesPOA hahahaha me too, i just checked it out. Im kinda disapointed, this song is super gay, but a cool fact to know. lol

  • Прекрасная песня!Безупречный вокал!

  • @kon17051951 ??..

  • Always loved this song because it attached itself to a great summer in my life..

However, looking at the performers for the first time now, I'm really disappointed they are soooo boring. lol

I guess some performers behind the music we love are best left to the imagination.

Thanx for posting though .... it's really great to hear it again.

  • Manhattan Transfer recorded a version of "Love for Sale." I can't seem to locate a copy on Youtube. Has anyone got a copy that they can upload? Thanks.

  • I'm with you man. Best rendition of "Love For Sale" I ever heard (MT). Hope somebody takes the hint.

  • Janis Siegel, phew. What a voice. I thought that she was french when I first heard this! age 15. She's a Brooklyn girl. To be cool at the time I had to pretend not to like the group but would always put on the LP when mum and dad were out.

  • my dad is the guitarist in the middle ! He winks at 4.01 so try and watch out for it !!

  • Really ?

  • great song..brings back memories of their concert at the perth concert hall years ago

Anyone know the title here? In English?

  • Song of love.

  • chanson d'amour..... song of love.

    you couldn't work that out???

  • It means '[We] Sing of Love'

  • I don't think so....if it was WE, it would say:

    chantons d'amour !

    Best regards ;)

  • It means Love Song.

  • Brilliant!

  • eine corat dorviet

  • OK - me and some freinds were HUGE fans of MT in the 80's - but we all lost interest - whoever was thier manager didn't do them just. Like where are all the videos on this site for the new gereration? the live clips OH SO SUCK!!!!

  • ra ta ta ta ta / ra da da da da

    :D

  • ay lintik, sa kanamitorn. mantran 4ever!

  • ra da da da da indeed my friend ra da bloody da

  • ra da da da da ...

  • This isn't Laurel Massé on lead vocals? Laurel's the tall redhead, yep?

  • Right. Laurel Masse is the tall redhead. The lead vocalist on Chanson d'Amour is Janis Siegel. Laurel is probably mentioned in the header because she was an original member of the current group (from 1972-1978) and was a contributor to their early success. She is a great singer and has a lot of fans. Plus she was apparently the one who came up with the idea for this particular arrangement of the song for the group.

  • vive la musique vive la france, joyeux anniversaire a moi!

  • When it was in the charts, it got played at one of Everton's home games (can't remember who we were playing) and the whole of the Gladwys st end starting singing it in a Scouse accent-brilliant!

  • Were you going 'Ra-tee-ta-tee-tah' in the middle? Cause the little one out of Cannon and Ball kept that joke going well into the 1980s lol

  • I was singing my heart out!

  • correct 1977 it was.

i can remember being 11 years old and sitting on my friends front door step in south east london hither green to be exact listening to this on his parents radiogram on a sunday morning in the background. fond childhood memories.

  • This is an excellent song it brings back memories of the seventies what a great posting.

  • what a class act!

  • just lovely

  • quite so

  • I used to fancy the lead singer.

  • man that's...um...wierd. But strangely mezmerising!!

  • That's so funny :---D! Ra da da da ! Hilarious :D!

  • Didn't they also sing this on Top of The pops? What a brilliantly performed song...bad camera work though should be closer.

  • It's OK kind of like Moon Of Alabama or sometthing from Cabaret

  • the orchestra does'nt have the good level for the band

  • fabulous song takes me right back to school in1978 when they were no 1 for about a million weeks

  • @hobbily just to say in the UK it was no. 1 in the spring of '77

  • This is Pure Gold. The original 4, avec Laurel Masse! Bravo!

  • Great to listen to a-n-d to move your bod to!!

  • chanson d'amour - beautiful - a favourite

  • I love this song and the M>T> I played it over and over, Just ask Johnny C.

  • rataratara..... i love this song

  • lo increible de éste video es que la buena música simpre es apreciada

  • i love this group! great video, this had to be some time in the 70s or very early 80s, laurel has a lovely voice. this song always reminds me of the "are you being served" finale. The M T is so cool, and i love the second number as well. I sure would like to see them live. thanks for posting

  • God Almighty this takes me back years! I think it got to no.1 in the UK charts in the late 1970s!!

  • That's right! It was number 1 for over a month during 1977 I think.

  • This song is 50 years old, made in 1958. It's OK.

  • This is without doubt a classic. They were such good entertainers as well.

  • I liked it!

It's great to see such talent so young, I wish I could see even earlier cuts

  • Grupo fantástico! Gosto muito dessas duas músicas!

  • Top clas band, does anybody have a copy of them doing the classic "baby come back to me" one of the best songs they did, if someone has it can they plz send me it.

  • Fantastic Group.

  • It's so tragic that Laurel Mass got in that accident. I love Cheryl Bentyne but Laurel just may have been the best singer of the Four. I just love her voice and she had such an incredible range! Her rendition of JE VOULAIS just clutches my heart and won't let go! And I didn't know she was so sexy until just now, seeing a vid of her for the first time.

Thank you, thank you for the post, Sergio 354!

  • I teach French in a secondary school and I play this to the kids in detention on loop....

They are generally well -behaved after that!

  • This song is so beautiful, it transports my mind back in time to memories of my first love. superb.

  • OK OK OK

  • Thanks heaps Sergios345.

Aaaah, truly beautiful. I forgot just how terrific this quartet is. I was only in primary school in the 70's but listened to my sisters records. Am going to look for some cd's now.

    Thanks from Katie in Australia.

  • I somewhat mistakingly said the words to this song to co-worker and she corrected me. I had heard this song on the oldies station here in Columbus, and NEVER could figure out what they were saying. Finding this song ends a year and a half mystery! Thanks for uploading.
