Bach's music evokes the feeling of the eternal continuity of the universe and the 'wonder' of it, in its complexity. This context, infinitely bigger than us, puts all of our concerns and conflicts into perspective and thereby offers us moments of peace and relaxation.
Without awareness of this cosmic dimension to existence, life is a troubled wandering from functional demand to instrumental action in the service of life goals without meaningful orientation.
