  • Great character from topolov, not letting people forget who really is "the boss". Actually kasparov WON this super-tournament, (his umpteenth) depite losing this last game.

I remember in 2003 when the so-called "rising stars" in russia started saying(In russian) that gary was a "spent force" and that it was "time for the new generation" to "move on past him"

Gary, clearly angry, amazed everybody by taking part in the 2004 russian championship. He crushed all "the rising stars" and won it easily!

  • you know i am bulgarian and i like how he shows respect for kasparov but i think the chess world got blindsided by carlsen.

  • topalov was right, anand, topalov, kramnik, leko, good players but not like kasparov

  • Mikhail Tal this is number one !

  • Yes, you have many of the top ten players on this list. But the fact that you do not have Paul Morphy on this list is evidence of your stupidity. Morphy was and will be one of the Immortal Chess Gods. He is the one player, who if alive today, with his incredible photographic memory and pure inate chess instinct, would compete and win against the greatest of today. He probably wouldnt have to but he could study, learn, and memorize modern theory. Morphy is easily top three. Period.

  • @savannahjoel u just called one of the best players ever stupid, i dont think u understand the level of wisdom i posess. I suggested moles were a sign of mental illness then looked up on wikipedia that during the middle ages people thought to be demonically possessed had moles on their bodies. Do u know what kind of mind u need for that? a mind from the stars.

  • @savannahjoel morphy isnt top 3 why? b /c he didn't play good enough competition and morphy had a weakness in closed positions if im stupid then your retarded. you know nothing about chess

  • 1. Kasparov

    2. Fischer

    3. Alekhine

    4. Capablanca

    5. Karpov

    6. Spassky

    7. TaL

    8. Petrosian

    9. Botvinnik

    10. Lasker

  • @Ironman718 true, but fischer was an anti-semitic nutjob...I simply can't respect that

  • @goldenchocolate fischer anti-semitic i didn't know this, man, that's a slap in the face! why is he?

  • @a552bcx Just watch: /watch?v=QryuMf8qZ0g

He was telling the truth and so he was bullied by the US government and tortured in Japan prison.

  • @rpdigital17 wasn't fischer jewish or came from a jewish background, anyway, good informative video though

  • @goldenchocolate No, he had nothing against arabs.

  • @Ironman718 what about Tal? :D

  • Well, this was back when Topalov actually was somewhat friendly. Before his manager Danailov took over his life and made him into his own Bulgarian mafia puppet.

  • Carlsen?

  • Topalov is a class act. End of story.

  • So who was better, Fischer or Kasparov? Did they ever play one another?

  • @yisacknayrabin

    i'd say kasparov.

much of what kasparov learned was from older games, including fischer's. he learned from their mistakes, and i think thats the only reason for which he would be better, simply because he had more theory to work with. also, if you consider the modern level of opposition, kasparov's feats are even more impressive than fischer's. i just wish fischer hadn't vanished like that.

modern fischer vs modern kasparov... i dont know.

  • @Ironman718

noffence , but i actually saw a few games of morphy

and it was weak''' extremely weak

however he did have some good games but his rating was never above 2700

  • @blackoil911

    tsssss...

back then there was no rating system.

and are obviously not familiar with the term "rating inflation", as well.

morphy was a world champion, he beat very strong players like anderssen.

and morphy hardly knew any theory.

"i actually saw a few games of morphy, and it was weak, extremely weak"

    HAHAHA

oh god... youtube cracks me up sometimes. some of the quotes you will find in here...

  • @chrism216

paul morphy doesnt even has a basic game structure sorry but just is my opinion

also players in this generations are way strong than players in the past

    except for capablanca or alekhine

  • @blackoil911

You are right in that current players are "stronger" than they were in the age of Morphy, or Cappablanca or even Tal and Fischer. You have to take into account the training mechanism has changed. What we would have seen if Fischer or Nimzovich had a resource like chessbase. At this point it is like comparing apples to oranges.

  • @boojum402

i said , except for Alekhine or Capablanca'''

their chess is studied by fish, kasp, karpov, carlson, anand, kramnik, topalov, ashley,

  • Topalov is legend. why this speech is so important. he just was never world champion.

  • and then there was Magnus...

  • Magnus Carlsen is better, but they're both legends.

  • funny in his interviews he seems like a decent guy but other gms apparently think hes a jerk

  • Very humble man, a great player also.

  • Also i doubt Topalov could have beaten Kasparov when he was in his prime.

  • and then came Magnus Carlsen...

  • @iodon Well Magnus has yet to win WC title.

  • @iodon

pff magnus is nothing''' he hasnt won jack

Anand , kasparov and kramnik are the three headed monsters in chess

  • wow, what a humble man

  • Topalov is frank n honest. The vacuum left by Kasparov may not be filled for 1 generation.

  • @rolandytho His pupil may scale the same heights within 5 years. Topalov may be best of the rest.

  • topalov used some veselin before screwing kasparov

(lol cudnt help it! all due respect to the legend)

  • Odd. I always thought Topolov was kind of a dick since he accused Kramnik of cheating, but now I have more respect for him.

  • what a humble soul topalov is.

My respect to him, and congrats to him on second place in the 2010 tournament.

  • I have a bit more respect for Topalov now. Kasparov is indeed a chess legend, who dominated the highest level for about 20 years. He was simply the BEST of his era. It would have been great to see him play Fischer, when they were both at their best.

  • @Ironman718 I agree...it's a shame that they never got a chance to play each other. Who would you put your money on?

  • a true sportsman and he's right Kasporov is a one time occurrence.

  • he sounds like a dying cat

  • @NixxerJixxerWixxer

    stfu fag

  • @NixxerJixxerWixxer : What do you expect- he's Bulgarian.

  • @TomDavid88

let me see you talking in bulgarian, fag

  • I do hope that this whining cunt loses to Anand...Fuck You Topalov!!!!

  • @JiggerBooWigger Are all Indians on that level or is it just you?

  • @JadeDAngelo

    Who says I'm an Indian?

  • @NixxerJixxerWixxer I don't care what you are, but if you never had a match against Kasparov, please do not use profane expressions about someone who was good enough to get one and win.

  • @NixxerJixxerWixxer

    topalov is the best

  • @JiggerBooWigger

tpoalov is the best and hes gonna win

  • It's nice to see Topalov showing deep respect for Kasparov despite beating him in the latter's last game

  • well he didnt see carlsen coming to steal his no. 1 spot did he?

  • would you expect a 19 year old suddenly appearing from nowhere and getting an elo of 2813 XD

  • sept 2011 max

  • i heard he wears shirts to distract his opponents, better not bring that shit around me

  • account closed..ha ha ha

  • WRONG. Magnus Carlsen is the new talent and he's clearly on the rise to become an even better substitude for Kasparov. The two are working together now.

  • topalov rox.

  • I don't know what your problem is! He is one great Bulgarian and he also speak english better than Stoichkov.

  • Who cares how well he speaks English?

I thought Topalov was a Russian?

  • @legalrule Bulgarian

  • this is the way a man should talk about a legend (kasparov) even though he won kasparov but he still says that there will be no any other legends like kasparov. smart speech by topalov. bravo!

  • Class.

Strange for a Bulgarian, but great to see and makes me proud.

  • topalovs a good player,

carlsen will not be world champion,

    Kramnik >

    Topalov>

    Anand>

    Pabedansk> all

all of you will know when somebody from USA is competing for world championship 1 yr 8 months max

  • Gary is the best.

    Was atleast.

  • What a pleasure it is to listen to this man.

  • very humble man

  • Looks a little like john tuturro.

  • Topalov shows humility and great class in this interview. He knows he is not the superb genius that Kasparov was, and publicly acknowledges it, as well as recognizing the vacuum left. The #1 rated player, the only one above 2800 ELO, and while improving - he will never be quite as famous as the man who's name is synonymous with the game of kings... but this does not mean he should be in any way disrespected.

Many of the comments shame the game. Give respect to the greats, they deserve it.

  • The only one above 2800?

  • Topalov might have beaten Kasparov.

But Kasparov had definetely better play, both great players tho'

  • fisher is greater than both, but its funny if a chess player beats someone his opponent is always great... even though kasparov was really a great player but i miss the times when a chessplayer said when asked if his opponent plays good says i think he plays good piano...

  • garry is my idol

  • in what?

  • felt sorry for kasparov, but maybe he had it planned...anyways,topalov won for a reason...he's a damn powerful good chess player.

  • If you care to listen ,he said "Vishi"

  • i stand correct. Cheers ;)

  • corrected* learn your past participles

  • What an anal comment.

  • yes he did. He said vischy. Referring to anand

  • i hope not, i think hes a real jerk. but i think hes slightly better than kamsky yes

  • topalov is gonna beat kamsky

  • To pAbedaNSK:

    Nice prediction!

  • Uhm, chess is alot more then learning moves. People that win soley because of learned moves never even get close to top level chess players. It's art on a whole new level, something you ovbiously are totally missing.

  • veselin is a great player, love his style

  • Me, too. Kasparov described him as an attacker. I like fierce, dynamic chess.

  • Thats not humility, that IQ !

  • I'm impressed by his humility. Someone who beat Kasparov has every right to boast and gloat..yet he talks instead about Kasparov's greatness. That's true humility. I LIKE this guy!

  • Kasparov is 15 wins 6 losses and 17 draws against Topalov. Of course he's not going to boast; Kasparov is still winning overall.

  • He is modest.

  • Kasparov is the best

  • Topolov is one of the strongest GMs in the world

  • KASPAROVE=LEGEND!

  • and a billion x more talented

  • slaviKn17=idiot

  • i doubt that

  • google steven khais

there you will see poetic and shooting ability

  • topalov didn't play the game at the world championship but it's very important that player like him, shirov, carlson or anand will succeed. they make chess interesting and awesome to watch. kramnik brought chess to a dead spot even although his kind of chess is more correct.chess can't be interesting if the champions plays a draw after 25 moves in every second game! chess get much more advertency when kasparow was the champion!

  • I like anand and topalov's playing style. I like how he once beat Anand in 25 moves. I'm depressed that kasparov and fischer retired, because only they could bring chess to the highest level.

  • vaseline toplove is my fav chess player.

  • LOL

  • vaseline?

    toplove?

he'll be the heartrob chess player in history

    lol

  • What a humble guy !

  • What Veselin is saying is that the next generation of chess players are the ones who are taught by computer and have a more positional playing style. You can no longer outplay your opponent by making unclear sacrifices over the board. Chess has now become 95% preparation.

  • not necessarily. the only reason chess has been played for the past 2000 years (or something like that) is because no one can master it.

  • except for masters?

  • lol!

  • Topalov shows his class. A true professional and gentleman. Hard to find these days.

  • topalov is a very sharp player!

  • very eloquent.

  • All of you Topalov haters suck it flat

  • man topalov is plating so well now i believe he can rule

p.s what a respect from veselin

  • Bravo Vesko//

  • Thank you for the post - an historically important video and Topalov articulates himself very well - sadness for Chess in spite of his own personal vistory.

  • 16year old Magnus carlsen did beat him later in this tournament

  • He said "Vishy" meaning Anand.

  • kasparov is a legend... topalov is the shadow of kaspy, he will never be as brilliant...

Magnus the chess prodigy will be the next world champion, he will probably dominate a whole new era like Kasparov did, and I think this kid will be more brilliant than Kasparov... "this kid will have no problem" in the words of kaspy

  • man... Magnus always have draws in early games :/

  • wow respect fot topalov. great person and player!

  • i didnt say anything about his reputation all or topalov all i said was kasparov is a genius and he is

  • Well Topalov still plays more interesting and entertaining chess then Kramnik. Nothing more pathetic then bunch of loosers making stupid remarks about two great players.

  • you silly goose we it isnt loosers its *losers*

  • no we, it isnt ***im a silly goose too

  • you idiot kasparov is a genius if you dont believe me ask anyone ever to play chess with him

  • topalov is bit of a loser... but not necessarily in this video

  • show off? I think he was very modest in admiting neither him, Anand, Kramnik nor Leko are at the same level of Kasparov.

  • Respect Topalov, his competitions even if he lose against anybody in top10 improves modern chess. He has talked and explained well about Kasparov.

  • wat a showoff

  • I lost respect for Topalov after his complaints against Kramnik going to bathroom 2 often .He acted like a sore loser.

  • Atleast Vaseline showed respect to Gazza. Shame Topa had to result to cheating at the world championship match with Kramnik and the candidates.

  • glossandcurls (3 months ago) Show Hide Marked as spam 0 (Reply) (Spam)

Atleast ---Vaseline--- showed respect to Gazza. Shame Topa had to result to cheating at the world championship match with Kramnik and the candidates

    ----------------------------------

    Lmao.. vAseline lol

  • I find it humorous that supporters of Topalov, like x33mmm, still say that Kramnik had used fritz 10. You could probably easier find a large horde of gold than prove it, which everyone knows he didn't anyway. You people just have to accept the fact that he tried to play with Kramnik's mind, got a free point, and still lost.

  • kasparov best ever Look at the numbers and stats nobody has ever been as good and consistent as him My only regret was that kasparov never faced fischer in the 80's but i still think kasparov would beat him

  • Karpov best ever.He factically played Kasparov to a draw in all of their championship matches.Besides, take into consideration that if we compare these two russians,Karpov has done more things in his life than just playing chess-he is the bakalaur of mathematics as well.

  • I like Karpov too, but when it comes to Kasparov vs Karpov, one of them was world chess champion for almost two decades, the other for just a few years. Unfortunately the facts speak for themselves on that matter.

  • Karpov was world champion for 10 years, Kasparov for 15 years. When Kasparov became world champion he was down 5-0, but Karpov lost his nerve and allowed Kasparov to come back and win. Kasparov never dominated Karpov (12 years his senior) and always nudged out victory in the world championship matches.

  • I appreciate the background, and as I said, I really like Karpov--but my point was just as you stated. Kasparov beat Karpov more than the other way around. One of the beauties of chess is the lack of ambiguity in things like this. When a WC and a contender meet, who's better is found out shortly thereafter.

  • In their five world championship matches, Karpov has 19 wins, 21 losses, and 104 draws in 144 games.

  • yeah and by a strange coincidence it showed that fisher demands of having draws not counted was unrealistic what strange coincidence, what luck that the soviet system had no say in chess...

  • lol, there is definetly some logic to Fischers demand! Still, the statistics I wrote above concern the strength of Kasparov and Karpov respectively and in comparison. I wrote the comment as a response to calibansfury who seem to underestimate just how close the WC matches between the two russians were.

Of course, if you asked Fisher (before we lost him)... Then all of the K-K games were artificial constructs and the result of a soviet plot against him, the only true genius of chess.

  • That would be 16 years for Karpov...

  • I used to think Topalov was good until he lost to 16 year old Magnus Carlson a few months ago.

  • Topalov will get back in shape and regain his title!

    Go Veselin!

  • listen veselin topalov is the best chess player in the world not him but kramnik is cheater because he used computer program against topalov called fritz 10 he is bulgarian me too bulgaria is the greatest nation fuc your mums loser suck it

  • Topalov is a cheater. He used a wireless miniature earpiece and an accomplice to give him the right moves as they were generated by a computer.

  • Topalov is number one and will be N1

  • @goldmarker

    that was kramnik, dude.

    you mistake both players.

  • Whoever makes fun of him, remember his IQ is much higher than yours...respect that!

  • This loser is losing his hair, that's why he's

    a loser,isn't my joke funny?

  • That man is not so ugly as he apperars on that video, and you see he is a magnificent person. Hes ability on chess is still not fully developed, He will be much better than Kasparov. So, respect that great man pls.

  • you've got to admire the guy's humility... I think he's right, but I can't imagine many other sports players being able to say something similar lets say in football (soccer)

    kudos to you...

  • Shamnik has more to be ashamed of, how can he calim to play a 'World Championship' When aainst Leko it was on a max of 14 games and then Topalov it was 12 games.

  • he sounds like a dying rat what a poor loser at least he is good at chess gotta have something to make up for what life has cheated him

  • WOW. Topa the winer sorry ass loser speaks in English.

And his voice is so Damn irritating.

  • Dude he's not freaking here to gave an English lesson with your sorry @ss. He's not even American or British, and he's here to talk about Kasparov, so f!ck u.

  • A beautiful mind. Humility and dignity and sportsmanship at its finest.

  • You must be refering to Kramnik.

  • is it topalov? or is it john tuturro? seperated at birth i say...

  • He's not here for his friggin' face.

  • Jesus u are so bad persons... always trying to pull people down because of their appearences... maybe he isnt pretty but his QI might BE AT LEAST 10000000000000x MORE than u.U are anti-human at ur comments. u have no right to come in youtube and speak dirty about people, HES A HUMAN-pretty or not, ur the same has him!

  • what he and his team are dysplaing in Elista is a disgrace for the chess world.

They are playing so dirty. LEt´s hope for Kramnik strenght in the final match.

  • I don't think he has a pathetic voice. But even if he did, that does not detract from his BEAUTIFUL brain and legandery status. This Guy is SO humble and cool and if all men were like him we would be living in Utopia.
