  • It's not uncommon for car manufacturers to use parts used by other companies. The suspension used by the Zr-1 has found its way over to the 599gtp Ferrari. It's called MagneRide.

  • The Corvette Factory here in Bowling Green is one of two General Motors factories that will temporarily close for a week to keep inventory in line with lower demand.

    A GM spokesman says the factory will be idled the week of December first.

    Corvette sales are off nine-percent through the first nine months of the year.

    The plant employs about 900 workers.

    Next time try doing a little research. BTW, this isnt the first time they've done this.

  • Wont find a ACR sitting on a lot? There are three new 2008 ACR's on EBAY. There are also over a dozen new SRT's listed. Really hard getting your hands on one of those 1200 cars.

    And lets see how the ZR1 sells. There are only a few out right now and the economy sucks. Add to that the dealerships are screwing people over and adding $50,000-$100,000 mark up on them, I dont think that many of those will sell.

I gave you facts and backed them up, but obviously you cant accept them. Actual Viper owners dont seem to have a problem admitting that the car isnt selling but you cant seem to digest it. If you figure out how to nav. the net you might learn something by visiting some of their forums.

It was the worlds fastest street legal car for 20 years prior to the SSC Ultimate Areo comming out this year, which by the way uses a modified Chevy engine. I also told you that the new 05 and 06's on dealers lots came straight from the Vipers Club Forums. Do you even bother to read? Once again it doesnt make any difference if they only make 1200 if they're only selling 600.

  • It's not BS side shit, it's facts. The problem is that you ran your mouth about how exclusive the Viper is and the truth is that people arent buying them. We both know that you'll never find a leftover ZR1 just sitting on some dealers lot. All hail to the mighty ACR, king of the ring, whose production run is about to end. Dont worry though, they'll still be sitting on dealers lots if you want one.

  • I said they are exclusive because they make approx. 1200 a year... compared to 35,000 Vettes thats exclusive. You will not see an ACR sitting in a lot... they are pretty much pre-sold. And post a link to the thread about the 05-06 still sitting in a dealer lot. You talk a lot of shlt without providing links. And no I didnt find a Callaway link showing a better time than the Henessy in the mil or on the track.

  • 08s are still at the factory because the cars are hand made. They are made in lots depending on the color thats ordered. So yes there are still Vipers there for the Viper blue, black, and violet wich are just now being released.

  • Face it, GM put all their eggs into the ZR1 basket and now it has been crushed by the ACR. The ZR1 is pretty much maxed out where the Viper can bolt on a Belanger system and push 675hp... and thats with a simple bolt on. The Vette will always be second. Sorry...

  • Production is 1500 per year for the ZR1. Care to tell me how the Viper is doing in ALMS. GM put all their eggs in the ZR1? Maybe you've heard of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V, a real sports sedan unlike the Bentley wanna be SRT-8. When GM built the new Camaro they started from the ground up unlike Dodge who chose to make a 2 door Charger and call it the Challenger. Pretty bad when you cant even give it it's own interior. Dodge has never outsold GM, and they never will.

  • you really think that top speed is everything with a car and determines how "fast" it is? top speed is mostly irrelevant on the track. you'd need a ridiculously wide ratio to go 180+ mph anyway and that would kill you on the track and get all bogged down below your ideal power band.

    top speed has nothing to do with a car's track time. look at my original post...did i say i'd be able to tune a car that would beat this on a salt flat? no...a TRACK (aka a circuit with TURNS)

In the last 20 yrs they've tried everything and still cant come close to GM and Ford, and neither one of them are setting the world on fire. So whats that say for Dodge. The one thing you cant take away from the Vette, they've been in production for 55 yrs, obviously people are buying them.

  • ok, there's more than one kind of racing. i'm talking about autocross where you take your PERSONAL car on the track, not professional grade racing.

    for autocross, how many 6 figure cars do you see? not very many. it's not practical, or necessary.

    most people who buy exotics buy them to show off, not race.

    Trust me, car included...you can turn an RX7 into a PROPER track car for 40-60 grand. 100 grand?? it will be better than a ZR-1.

  • If you really care about racing, you'd never buy a car like this. You could tune a car to beat one like this on a track for a fraction of the price. Then you also have the satisfaction of a car you essentially built yourself.

    Half the exotics that are produced never even see a track...they just see country clubs and shopping malls

    Oh and you don't need $100,000+ to do 0-60 in low 3s. You just need a suzuki gsx-r 1000 ;)

No matter what anyone thinks, a corvette is not an exotic sports car, which is one of the "requirements" of a supercar.

I can put a turbo on a built civic (as gay as hell as it is), with a good suspenison and run 10's and do the ring in 7:30 but does that make it a supercar too?

The corvette competes all over the motorsport world and has shown to be able to compete against (what you may label as)supercars; Now, I don't know as much about cars as you claim to know, but the fact that it's in the same breath as the 911s and 430s it should have some supercar status, if not the Z06, then definately the ZR1.

  • The 911 turbo and F430 aren't "supercars" either. They are exotic sports cars. The ZR1 is a sports car. And a fast one at that. Cars like the Carrera GT, the Saleen S7, Enzo, Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg CCX, SLR McLaren and Honda Civic are supercars. Think about it. Think about the status and "wow factor" of those cars vs. that of a F430 or a fast corvette or a porsche 911. And I'm not reffering to how fast it is either. Get my point now?

  • A couple of corrections to clarify your comment. The ZR-1 is going to have 620+ horsepower and 600+ lbs. of torque. Also, it's anticipated to have a 0-60 in the low 3's, not 3.6. 3.6 is around the Z06's ball park. Expect a time of around 3.1 seconds from 0-60 and a lap around the prestigious Nurburgring facsimilar or faster than a Porsche Carrera GT.

    Ha! The only aesthetic changes from the Z06 are the spoiler, a slight re-styling of the front-side scoop, a bigger hood bulge, and a window on the hood - the last two are both for the supercharger. seriouswheels(dot)com has plenty of shots of this car.
