That's a Theta II (2) engine which is similar if not very akin to the Hyundai Genesis 2.0T. Tuners in Korea have been able to extract more than 300+ to the wheels or somewhere in the range of 500hp to the crank from that 2.0litre engine; the same engine by designation, as the Kia 2.4litre.

Hell, Kia and Hyundai are the same company in principle. I wouldn't mind seeing some tuners give it some real balls. It's unfortunate that it is FWD.

I work as a salesman for Kia, i didnt know shit about them, but they have definitley stepped up their game. Hyundai now owns Kia which is another reason why Kias have stepped up. I sell at least 5 new Koups a month not including the other models. I have plenty of honda civics on our used lot from people who have traded in their civics and opted for a forte instead. Dont sleep on em.

last i saw 158 was smaller than 161 so the tC still has more hp. not to mention the tC's motor is more performance oriented. its not just a Camry motor, a tC owner will know that.

@MajorState AGREED - the problem with putting a turbo in with it after rebate, is that you void the warranty... kinda sucks that way... CAI doesn't tho (from what i know...)

@sopos63 oh ok then.but I'm still confused as to why that kia forte has 220 on speedometer and it only has a v.6 engine with no turbo.it probably will only top out at 145 miles an hour at the most unless it has a special engine the the hondas do with there V-tech engines

kias lying they said the base trim has more hp than a tc and honda civic, the forte koup has 158hp while the tc has 161, the civic si has 197

I'm really impressed with Kia. Over the years they have stepped up their game a lot. They have this Forte and the Soul. They will continue to get better and will catch up with Toyota/Honda in sales one of these days.

Bullshit!! Hyundai stole the G35 and made it cheaper, so don't give me that "shit" bc they all recycle ideas. This car is very nice and will selling like hotcakes because of all the features and the fresh design behind it. i don't own a KIA but i know people who do and they are really nice cars and come with a kick-ass warranty. And its the best looking Honda civic/ scion TC i have seen .. so stop hating... I will have a Forte Koup SX fully loaded by x-mas...

@musthavejava Dude, don't be so ignorant. KIA's chief designer is a German dude, the former lead designer for Audi and Volkswagen. He designed the original Audi TT and the newer Beetle and more.

There are americans, europeans, koreans and japanese working at places like Kia. Kia just opened up a plant in Alabama, creating 3,000 AMERICAN JOBS. So don't jump to conclusions. They're actually helping our economy - as well as the economy of Kia's home country.

I'm still not convinced to buy Korean, Hyundai or Kia, but I suppose imitation is the best form of flattery. If you are going to take a chunk of the marketplace out there, why not stand on the shoulders of giants and take what you can from them. It's worked for many other car manufacturers.
