I've gotta say - and this is unusual for me - that this cover was in the same class as EJ's. Maybe not as good as the Ephesus version, but still it was awsome! Though can anyone say that she can perform it live?
I like Elton John's and George Michael's version of this song BUT Oleta had put more emotion and ''umph'' in it to make it more inspirational. She has that natural vocal gift when she sings remakes.
Nós, negros sabemos na alma, como cantar a dor da nossa raça, dos nossos ancestrais, isso está inserido na nossa historia...Esse video, essa cantora, mostra bem nossa alma...
I loved what someone said once, that Oleta Adams and Roland Orzabal should get married so they can sing together in morning, afternoon, evening, and maybe all night. They are fantastic alone but together they can move mountains. She is going to be at the BB King club in Manhattan later this month. I am so going to see her. Can't wait.
Oleta Adams performing live was one the most amazing concerts I've ever been to. And she is coming back to New York in February. Guess who is going to be there again... yes, meeeee =)

Her voice is so natural! I give Elton his credit but I must say I prefer hearing this beautifuly talented lady perform it. She brings a special life to it. What a gift she has. These yong performers today can't hold a candle to these performers.
I love this version - her voice can bring out emotion in even the most guarded person. I prefer the Elton John version but there's no doubt this one is an amazing tribute. She can sing SO well!
I've loved this version for many, many years.. A definite favorite. And Yes, although Elton wrote it and sang it so differently, obviously, his will always be the standard by which all others are measured. Oleta's version still leaves me with a warm smile on my face. Her voice, her natural ability, her interpretation of this song, still affect me deeply. I think she is an amazing, beautiful woman, and I am so glad to have found this. Thank You!!
If you want to see, feel, and hear true command of music and notes, get a ticket to her concert. I guarantee you, when you leave your heart, soul, and emotion will be stirred . When Oleta sings, there are few who can command the air to render their voice flawless, seamless, and fluid. So many of us base our likes and dislikes on what we experienced in our formative years and match it to current situations. Few, if any, performers could hold a candle to her. Experience it for yourselves.
amazing vocals but the video is horrendous. You with the backup singers and the band and nothing else would have been sweet. your voice is a gift from God, thank you for sharing it
All I'm saying is that Elton is amazing. He is my favorie singer and to me no one can sing this song better. That doesn't mean this isn't a beautiful version. I just perfer the origional.
Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle. These are unique voices and you can pick them out in your sleep. This woman can sit in the front row with these extraordinary ladies. You can bet money anything sung by her WILL make the original very proud
omg. This is an Elton John/ Bernie Taupin composition from the early 70's. Oleta sung this cover with a host of other artistes (singing Elton's other songs) on an album which was a tribute to Elton John. Have to admit that I was bowled over by Oleta's very soulful rendition.
COVER....COVER? This was out ages before Michael/John's COVER! Suddenly it disappeared off the airwaves and shelves! Amazing what a bit of fame can buy. ALWAY prefered this ORIGINAL!!
I love a good cover song that does the original justice, and this certainly qualifies. While it is, obviously, different from Elton's original version, there is something to be said abt Oleta's powerful rendition: she sang the hell outta that song! Thank you for posting it. =0)
By looking at her you wouldnt think she has all of that power and warmth to her voice. Never judge a book by its cover. She sounds great. And from what I see on her other clips, she's mega talented.
are you deaf??? one of Americas greatest voices.... check her out doing "get here if you can". reply when you have heard it... my litte tin ear friend.
Great song, Oleta's singing gives me goosebumps too. I only focus on her when watching the video. Credit goes to Bernie Taupin, Elton John, and Roland Orzabal also.
Don´t forget that this version was produced by Roland Orzabal (frontman of tears for fears). Excellently produced, recorded and obviuslly, she is amazing. and if you listen carefully, during the main chorus, the voice of Orzabal is heard... (in the youtube version is difficult because of the poor quality)
I really like this version of the song very much! I first heard her in the Buick Enclave commercial singing "Feelin' Good" and had to find out who that singer was on the internet. I'm glad I did - she's excellent!!!
This is the only other version of this song I like. She does a great job on this song. Also on the same CD is a version of "Come Down in Time" sang by Sting that is also a great.

The first time I heard this I it was released in NZ. I swear - that same week, the Elton John and George Michael version was released and totally overshadowed this Oleta's rendition. Absolutely tragic that Elton and Georges fame caused what is an incomparably better version of the song to be largely overlooked and unseen/unheard. YOU WERE ROBBED OLETA!!!!!
The first time I heard this song sung by Oleta Adams, was Christmas 1995. I was driving home from the hospital after my mother passed away, and will never forget the powerful impression her voice carried.
After many years later, I am rediscovering the song, (never knew there was a video) and can still feel the goosebumps.
I've gotta say - and this is unusual for me - that this cover was in the same class as EJ's. Maybe not as good as the Ephesus version, but still it was awsome! Though can anyone say that she can perform it live?

The first time I heard this I it was released in NZ. I swear - that same week, the Elton John and George Michael version was released and totally overshadowed this Oleta's rendition. Absolutely tragic that Elton and Georges fame caused what is an incomparably better version of the song to be largely overlooked and unseen/unheard. YOU WERE ROBBED OLETA!!!!!

The first time I heard this song sung by Oleta Adams, was Christmas 1995. I was driving home from the hospital after my mother passed away, and will never forget the powerful impression her voice carried.
After many years later, I am rediscovering the song, (never knew there was a video) and can still feel the goosebumps.

elton John has alrady stated this is the best version of this song.
The scarey thing is she sings the dam song better in concert than on the record. Oleta is one bad ister

Easily the best version to date.
Previously I loved the Daltry take on it from "Lost Boys" but this just nails it!
