Actually windows 7 isn't too bad. But the installation process for the student edition on boot camp on my macbook pro was a horrible pain in the ass. There were also driver issues, but I fixed them. But yeah, now I use win7 about as much as MacOSX.

I am typing on an apple iBook G4 right now. It is a laptop. Not all mac laptops are called macbooks. The main screen of all computers (mac/pc, desktop/laptop) where files are organized is called your desktop. The desktop of a computer. Laptops have desktops. Desktops have desktops. Yes, but is it legal? I think not. Getting a mac is the cheapest way to legally have all of those OSs on one system.
When dealing with apps, I would rather have quality over quantity anyway. I have never had a problem doing what I needed to do on a mac. (other than ripping encoded swf to mov, that is some difficult crap to do free)

And yet to run windows on a MAC you have to have a valid license key, which is highly doubtful there are installing windows illegally. So the rules apply to MAC user's also, but realistically, how often do people follow these rules?
It is only legal for the Mac os to run on the mac hardware. There are various licenses that state this. That's why mac makes hardware and software. Do some research.

Vista is far superior at allocating memory to applications evenly, especially if you have more than 4Gigs.

I'm curious about Macs, I've never used one and I was wondering why people say it's better than Windows? I have Vista 20g ram, athlon x2 64 dual core processer and it runs everything fast. I havn't had any problems as far as bugs and viruses go so what makes a Mac better?
The only real thing Mac has going for it is quality control. They make everything on the computer, so you know you won't be having any compatibility problems. Think of Mac as a tricycle and a PC as a motorcycle. You may never run into problems on one, but you can get great performance out of the other if you know what you're doing. In my experience, though, PCs tend to crash for a specific reason that can be corrected, while Macs tend to crash for no reason at all.
I see what you mean now, funny that you mention about Macs crashing for no reason. Just recently my friend turned on her Mac laptop and it crashes everytime she turns it on. My old XP PC had the BSOD because my husband was looking up porn and I'm pretty sure some kind of virus messed it up.
Since you aren't doing anything advanced enough to be having problems on Vista, you probably would never have any problems on a Mac. XP is still probably the best OS out there, but Vista isn't without its charm. The biggest problem with a Mac is the cost. They cost 4 times as much as a PC and are un-upgradeable. (Litterally, four times. I recently built a system that cost a little under $1000 while it's Mac equivalent costs roughly $4,000.)

I have used a windows machine for over 7 years before I switched to mac. But why stop at Apple fans. All fanboys can be annoying SOB's. I have never had an issue with ANY computer that I can't solve. (well, actually, I dropped a windows laptop, then It had BSOD from then on because of the hard drive. I know it wasn't a software problem)

Actually, crossover only works on Intel Macs. Though, if you have a PowerPC Mac, you can use Q, Virtual PC, or any other program that is emulation-based to run windows.
Crossover, VMware Fusion, and Boot Camp are full speed and is not emulation.
I can't tell if you are trying to be sarcastic or not. You do know everything visual for leopard was shown before Vista was shown. Microsoft just wanted to make it seem like Apple copied them by putting it out earlier. (with the side-effect if it being buggy)
Cooler things? I work with Vista every day and it is even more garbage than XP. It isn't cool having a BSOD after just a week with it. Aqua was first used on iTunes in Jan 2001, but Aero was just used Nov 2006 with Vista. Please do some research before you lie.

Aqua is on Jaguar, panther, tiger, and soon to be leopard. Before Aqua there was Platinum on Mac os 8 and 9. Try wikipedia. I have to say, vista is pretty, but it is still buggy as hell! They have also made things so the user has to use even more key-strokes to do what they need to do.

I don't know about you, but when I get a computer, I have it for 5+ years. A mac can work seamless for all those years. If I buy something that I am going to be using for a long time, I am willing to pay a Premium price for the best quality computer. At the moment, I am still saving up for a Mac Pro, but my iBook G4 is still going strong.
Yes, I don't like their choice with the transparent menu bar. I hope you can turn it off in the prefs. I think they will have around a million things coming out August.
I don't think Apple is trying to be like Microsoft, just as they wouldn't want their products to imitate a buggy, interface unfriendly, aesthetically unpleasing operating system like Vista. To my recollection, Vista has horribly imitated older versions of Mac OSX, just look at their "search bar" and aqua GUI. Why stick up for Vista, the OS that fails to bring its customers driver support?

Yes, but is it legal? I think not. Getting a mac is the cheapest way to legally have all of those OSs on one system.
When dealing with apps, I would rather have quality over quantity anyway. I have never had a problem doing what I needed to do on a mac. (other than ripping encoded swf to mov, that is some difficult crap to do free)

There were open source CLONES of mac after steve jobs left apple. But the mac os isn't a port of it, it is the other way around.
Mac clones were ended when steve jobs returned to apple.

It is only legal for the Mac os to run on the mac hardware. There are various licenses that state this. That's why mac makes hardware and software. Do some research.

The problem with OSX is the weak and efficient memory allocation.
Vista is far superior at allocating memory to applications evenly, especially if you have more than 4Gigs.
Also with Vista you don't need to do the stupid permissions repair thing, which is possibly the most pointless and stupid feature ever to grace an application.

I'm curious about Macs, I've never used one and I was wondering why people say it's better than Windows? I have Vista 20g ram, athlon x2 64 dual core processer and it runs everything fast. I havn't had any problems as far as bugs and viruses go so what makes a Mac better?

The only real thing Mac has going for it is quality control. They make everything on the computer, so you know you won't be having any compatibility problems. Think of Mac as a tricycle and a PC as a motorcycle. You may never run into problems on one, but you can get great performance out of the other if you know what you're doing. In my experience, though, PCs tend to crash for a specific reason that can be corrected, while Macs tend to crash for no reason at all.

I see what you mean now, funny that you mention about Macs crashing for no reason. Just recently my friend turned on her Mac laptop and it crashes everytime she turns it on. My old XP PC had the BSOD because my husband was looking up porn and I'm pretty sure some kind of virus messed it up.

Since you aren't doing anything advanced enough to be having problems on Vista, you probably would never have any problems on a Mac. XP is still probably the best OS out there, but Vista isn't without its charm. The biggest problem with a Mac is the cost. They cost 4 times as much as a PC and are un-upgradeable. (Litterally, four times. I recently built a system that cost a little under $1000 while it's Mac equivalent costs roughly $4,000.)

but you have to realize, what you can do on a mac with 2 gigs of ram isn't equal to what you can do on a PC with 2 gigs of ram. You aren't buying equal computers. The software makes a HUGE difference. And WTH, They don't cost 4X more than PCs and they are fully upgradable. (except for the motherboard)

I dont know why people dont just switch to Macs already. I mean it even runs windows and even at the same time if you want. It runs Microsoft office and has amazing programs called iLife and looks muuch much better. Ugh and those gamers, if you want to play games you get like and Xbox 360 or a Wii or something. Also, the faults apply to those who are installing it on their own computers, not when purchasing a machine with it already installed. I have used a windows machine for over 7 years before I switched to mac. But why stop at Apple fans. All fanboys can be annoying SOB's. I have never had an issue with ANY computer that I can't solve. (well, actually, I dropped a windows laptop, then It had BSOD from then on because of the hard drive. I know it wasn't a software problem)
Both systems have their pros and cons, but I prefer the Mac more. But that is just it- a matter of opinion.
Can we both agree that all fanboys suck?

I'm so sick and tired of Windows, and Linux is not an option since I work with design and video.
I'm saving money a new iMac and have a WORKING and stable operating system.
And it's just so beautiful...

I'm fine running Vista with just 1GB of ram (2GB would of been nicer) and a Turion dual core processor. Although Vista does perform a little less-than-prefered, I still think its a big improvement over XP.

Actually, crossover only works on Intel Macs. Though, if you have a PowerPC Mac, you can use Q, Virtual PC, or any other program that is emulation-based to run windows.
Crossover, VMware Fusion, and Boot Camp are full speed and is not emulation.

Cooler things? I work with Vista every day and it is even more garbage than XP. It isn't cool having a BSOD after just a week with it. Aqua was first used on iTunes in Jan 2001, but Aero was just used Nov 2006 with Vista. Please do some research before you lie.

Aqua is on Jaguar, panther, tiger, and soon to be leopard. Before Aqua there was Platinum on Mac os 8 and 9. Try wikipedia. I have to say, vista is pretty, but it is still buggy as hell! They have also made things so the user has to use even more key-strokes to do what they need to do.

I don't know about you, but when I get a computer, I have it for 5+ years. A mac can work seamless for all those years. If I buy something that I am going to be using for a long time, I am willing to pay a Premium price for the best quality computer. At the moment, I am still saving up for a Mac Pro, but my iBook G4 is still going strong.

I don't think Apple is trying to be like Microsoft, just as they wouldn't want their products to imitate a buggy, interface unfriendly, aesthetically unpleasing operating system like Vista. To my recollection, Vista has horribly imitated older versions of Mac OSX, just look at their "search bar" and aqua GUI. Why stick up for Vista, the OS that fails to bring its customers driver support?
