I named my little puppy leilani, as a tribute to my mom because she died the day this sweet little girl was born. My mom loved Bing and I never new this song was from him. I miss her very much, she would have loved her.
I named my German Shepherd puppy after this song...she was sooo delicate and so beautiful...she died of kidney failure at age 8 months. Since Leilani means "heavenly flower" I think the name was perfect for her...she is my Heavenly Flower now, and I miss her so much!
Hi My name is Leilani also.My parents named me after this very recording! It will always be close to my heart.Bing sang this in the 1937 hit movie "Hawaiian Holiday". When I was born in 1964 my sweet little grandmother played this on the nurses lounge piano , and sang it beautifully for all to hear.Boy, I have always wished I had a recording of that .

That's not Bing Crosby. Unless his shorts are real tight.

Haha I have a friend whose wife called their daughter Leilani after this song... doesn't have blue eyes though :)

Lani McIntire is singing the first verse, because that is his musical
group. What is outstanding about this recording is the falsetto voice of
George Kainapau.
rminnewawa 1 year ago
@rminnewawa Sweet Leilani by Bing Crosby
I'm con fused by your comment that Lani McIntire sang first verse Then you bring
up the falsetto voice of George Kainapau. Who sang the first verse Lani or George?TKS

If that; first verse is Bing Crosby, then I'm Dorothy Lamour

Harry Owens, the composer, sings the first section. Then Crosby comes in.

Yes it did.
torontobear73 1 year ago
No. "Sweet Leilani" won in 1937. "Thanks For the Memory" won in 1938.

LazlosPlane 2 years ago
Yes I'm quite aware of that. I have hundreds of his recordings

Written by Harry Owens to celebrate the birth of his daughter Leilani.
Gives more meaning to the lyrics.
