  • Sam had a good first year at Rice, but nagging muscle injuries slowed him down this past season. I believe he applied for a medical hardship. But his best game came in a win vs Purdue. Purdue went on to beat Ohio St. He could play in the Big Ten and do well at this juncture of his career. The year he had to sit out when he transferred helped him physically. No head injuries since he's been an Owl. He takes the hits a lot better now. Can have a monster 2012 season if the O-line is decent.

  • i wonder what nfl team sam mcguffie will end up at

  • I feel like we've been watching this kid forever, and it's really great to see him finally producing in Division 1 college football, albeit at Rice, still D1. He's about as fast as you can get at RB, and he has been for a long time.

  • he has alot of talent and shiftyness but i really believe the dude could not take getting hit in the big ten. look up sam mcguffie hit vs ohio state and youll see what i mean

  • @killilea111 he was the first true freshman rb to start in modern michigan history, he has gained 20 pounds since then. He is bigger than Denard Robinson for christ sake, Shaw etc, Mike Hart, bigger than all of those dudes.

  • and players get laid out all the time, its called football. Special teams is the most dangerous aspect of the game, you have a guys flying full speed toward each other from opposite ends of the field. Sam wasn't 100 percent recovered from his previous concussion, a poorly thrown pass that he went across the middle to get, had he been hit in stride he could've gotten yards after the catch, instead he had to adjust and gave the safety a perfect hit.

  • @CoachpJr Well its not my fault, blame big 10 announcers, I was under the impression Hart was a redshirt freshman. They are the ones who stated McGuffie was the first true freshman to start in the modern era for Michigan at tailback.

  • @dwid1984 maybe they meant start the season? Hart wasn't the starter for game 1, although he was by week 2. But certainly a true freshman, won a HS state title in 03, running for Michigan in 04

  • @dwid1984 Bigger than mike hart??? GTFO dude. He would have been decent at michigan if he stayed though.

  • @dwid1984 dude good but he aint bigger then Mike Hart

  • @blackemo26 Mike Hart was 5'9 and 202 pounds when he went to the NFL combine. McGuffie is 6'0 and bulked up to 208

  • @dwid1984 so he got him by 4lbs...dude aint on mike harts level

  • @blackemo26 your original argument is that he wasn't bigger than Hart. He doesn't have the vision Hart has running in between the tackles but he has more of a chance in the NFL. He has elite speed unlike Mike Hart's 4.7, he is probably better suited as a wr/3rd down back similar to Dexter McCluster

  • @killilea111 he did have 3 concussions in one year so... i think it was a good idea to get away from the big ten where theres people flying down the field at you at 7000 mph, that are usually alot bigger and faster then people in the c-usa

  • @killilea111 Very true. He had like 3 concussions that year.. but he got DESTROYED by the Buckeyes on that kick return!!! GO BUCKS!!!

  • The song is : Non Phixion - The C.I.A. Is Trying To Kill Me. This guy is really athletic explosive speed too.

  • BFND

  • I thought he showed a lot of promise @ Michigan. Too bad for him he didn't know that RichRod's stay there wasn't going to be very long.

  • what song is this !!?!?!?

  • Such a dissapointing UM prospect. Look at him now, playing for Rice High School. Oh well, we'd be amazing with him now :l

  • what song/instrumental is this?

  • he is kinda fast i guess

  • Hoping Sam has a great season. Love this kid, only wish everything would have worked out for him at Michigan.

  • He didn't play that well at UofM but I wish he would have stayed with another two years under his belt and playing with denard that would have been the fastest backfield I can recall.

  • hope this guy makes it in the nfl. I could totally see him wind up at a place like New England where they have a knack for recognizing talented, under-the-radar type players.

  • @Davecm008 hopefully other teams will learn from New England because they already have a great scatback in Woodhead. Sam McGuffie has the potential to be a great change of pace/3rd down back at this point. If he improves he could be more of a feature back

  • @Davecm008 you mean white running backs

  • @TheBestCommenterEVER or white 5'9 slot recievers

  • @Davecm008 Deion Branch is 5'9 190 pounds

  • @TheBestCommenterEVER benjarvus green ellis was black last time i checked, and an UDFA.

  • @dwid1984 benjarvus green ellis isn't exactly under the radar, last i checked. or talented.

  • @dwid1984 there's a difference between being undrafted and under the radar

  • @Davecm008 Ray Lewis says he's not going to make it in the NFL.

  • @Davecm008 This guy was heavily recruited out of high school. He's not exactly under the radar. But New England would be a good fit

  • @Davecm008 you wanna see a knack for under the radar talent look at the packers

  • @Davecm008 this kid would NEVER get into the nfl ru kidding me?????? he is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to little and would probably get killed the first play he was in on i cant believe you really think this little kid would even have the slimmest of chances to play in the nfl. get real people he is no reggie bush or barry sanders not even fucking close.

  • @72533 hes 6'0 200 pounds right now, go take a look at the weights of other guys in the NFL. Chris Johnson is 190. He would definetly be better than Reggie Bush right now. He has the same problem as Reggie right now, finding the crease. At USC we never saw this in Reggie because he had huge holes, Sam is at Rice where the blocking isn't great, he gets creases. He had 1200 yards from scrimmage right now, with over 400 being receiving, he's versatile, you can line him up anywhere, backfield, slot

  • @72533 6' 200 lbs isn't small for a running back....

  • @72533 reggie bush isnt close to barry sanders..

  • @72533 but bush sucks lol

  • We liked him at Michigan. He was a tough kid. Too bad he had to leave.

  • Amazing high school player. Average college player.

  • @rjr1990 1200 yards from scrimmage 9 tds on a crappy team that shuffled 4 quarterbacks last season with no receiving threat? after not playing football for a year? I guess we couldve called Chris Johnson an average college player because he didn't have that many yards his sophomore or junior year at Eastern Carolina, same conference

  • @dwid1984 Chris Johnson had injuries his junior season. But he broke out his senior season and had almost 3,000 all purpose yards and 24 td's. Plus, CJ is a lot faster than MCguffie. Very few players in the NFL have the break away speed CJ has. Also,1200 yards from scrimmage isnt that impressive. Especially in that conference. Freshmen have gotten that in the SEC.

  • @rjr1990 yeah and sam was a sophomore last year. CJ doesn't have that much more speed than Sam. Sam ran a legit electronic 4.32 at the Nike Combine and had one of the best sparq ratings ever with like an insane shuttle time too. Not many freshman have gotten that in the SEC. Trent Richardson is one of the rare exceptions, he was already matured when he was a freshman at like 220 pounds. McGuffie was still 180 when they tried to play him, hes now 200

  • Matt Forte had 1156 yards from scrimmage and 9 tds his junior year at Tulane, same conference. His sophomore year he had 819 and 5 tds, 3.9 ypc. Chris Johnson's sophomore year he had 1050 yards from scrimmage and 8 tds. He had no injuries then. Oh yeah and he averaged 3.9 yards per carry. Go look at the Nike Combine results, very few kids run legit electronic 4.3's out of high school, only TWO kids ran a 4.3 this year, legit ones. Chris Johnson was listed as 4.4 out of high school by rivals

  • and after looking it up, Trent Richardson didn't have close to 1200 yards from scrimmage as a freshman, he had 877 yards from scrimmage and 8 tds, last year he had 966 and 10 tds and he is considered THE top back if he comes out next year.

  • @dwid1984 Timed forty's and football forty's are two different things. Look at highlights of CJ and Mcguffie and it is obvious that CJ is much faster.

  • @rjr1990 as a pro CJ might be faster, but no a 40 yard dash is what it is, how fast you run in a straight line for 40 yards. CJ might be faster over 100 yards but Sam has great initial burst, you can see in this video, if there is a crease he will explode through it.

  • @dwid1984 Lots of running backs explode through creases at the college level. Why do you think you have so many people rushing for 1300+ yards at the college level?

  • @rjr1990 no, most college backs run through gaping holes, sam exploded for big gains the few times he had creases last year at Rice. Go rewatch Alabama's oline, you could drive a truck through those holes, most of the time Rice didn't have anything but a stuffed line. There are 120 fbs d1 teams, only 18 ran for 1300+ yards last year. LaMichael James had a great scheme/holes to run through. Rice went through 4 qbs, no team respected the pass, the line sucked.

  • @dwid1984 But you could still take any of those 18 who rushed for 1300+ and they could do better at rice.

  • @rjr1990 I doubt it, most of those guys didn't have close to 1300 their 2nd year playing, pretty much all except 3 or 4 had their breakout seasons during their 3rd and 4th year playing in the same offense. And I doubt they would do that well on Rice. Sam couldv'e rushed for more than he had if he had gotten more carries, but the defense sucked and they were down and had to pass most of the time. Only a few of those guys couldve done well behind no blocking

  • this guy couldn't handle the big 10 haha pussy.

  • @vic55jets 661 yards from scrimmage and 4 tds as the first true freshman in the UM's modern history, yeah thats "not handling the big 10". Players get concussions all the time, doesn 't mean shit except that football is a violent sport

  • @vic55jets he came closer home because of family issues, now you need to stfu cause i bet you would get killed in the sun belt conference

  • @SkillzT3 i dont kno about that man, i signed a letter of intent to play for Purdue my junior year so i think maybe you should be the one to stfu (:

  • @vic55jets so you on scout, got a highlight vid? pretty old for a junior, Sam was 18 as a true freshman in college, you were 18 your junior year in high school, so yea you gotta lot of room to talk.

  • @dwid1984 my junior year was 2 years ago. i'm class of 2011. why dont u look at the vid where mcguffie gets leveled by an ohio state special teamer haha

  • @vic55jets yeah you turn 19 this year, which means your a 19 year old senior, still older than what McGuffie was in college. Any returnman wouldve been leveled out on that hit idiot. You see that shit all the time. Reggie Bush getting smashed on returns. The problem was, the coach put him back on the field when he just had a concussion, like a few weeks before, going across the middle as a wide receiver his qb hung him out to dry. Guys get concussions all the time playing the game,

  • but since you supposedly play football and have this scholarship to purdue you should know this, but no proof of any of this, You think you would have some type of highlight video of yourself instead of just looking like a fag playing the bass. Oh wait are you too scared for others to see how you look playing football?

  • i can't find any commits to Purdue in football from Northrop class of 2011

  • @dwid1984 oh man idk why u on this dude's jock so hard, anyways not any return man would have gotten leveled here ex jets kick returner would have not gotten hit so hard he is 6'2 212 ibs compared so mcguffies 6'0 200 ibs. and smith is faster so there u go and i'm done i got better things to do than to argue with someone over the internet,

  • @vic55jets ive seen brad smith get lit up, who cares how big brad smith is compared to a junior in college. Chris Johnson is 5'11 190, is he gonna get lit up? he played in the same conference, yeah you don't have time argue because you made up some bullshit about playing for purdue

  • @dwid1984 ex jets kick returner Brad Smith

  • wow.. are people really talkin about the colour of the skin or the skills a person has? stupid assholes! Yes, there are many talented black men, but thats because what happend in the past.. its called evelution! This dude Sam Mcguffie, im not a big fan of his playin' style, but the boy got some goood genes! Respect and accept that! And that there are many coloured men that are explosive, fast and strong is because they too have good genes. Stop hating on the colour, and start hating the skill :)

  • hes white

  • @auforlifeful brilliant observation, although irrelevant. Peyton Hillis and Danny Woodhead. One had 1,000 yards rushing last season and the other had 1,000 from scrimmage.

  • @dwid1984 wat im getting at is u dnt c alotta white running backs tht r good smrt ass

  • @auforlifeful then why come every white rb that ac tually gets a chance winds up being good? Luke Staley won Doak Walker award. Toby Gerhart also won the Doak Walker award. Toby's first season he avged 3.5 ypc his first season and didn't put up 1k until his junior year. Jacob Hester was just a fullback until they gave him carries his senior season, rushing for 1k in the sec leading his team to a championship. Danny Woodhead broke the rushing record ran a 4.3 went undrafted, 1k from scrimmage

  • Peyton Hillis had like 2600 yards rushing as a senior in high school, 10 yards per carry 29 tds. No school offered him a scholarship as a runningback. Look at him now in the NFL. Oh yeah, nobody offered Gerhart a scholarship as a tailback as a halfback except Stanford, this was despite being the leading rusher in California history, 3rd in the nation ALL TIME, hand time 4.46 speed... Now we have Zach Line who just put up the most rushing yards for SMU since Eric Dickerson.

  • Rex Burkhead had 951 yards rushing 7 tds as a sophomore, 148 yards receiving. He was also a standout back in Texas. He just didn't have as much top end speed as McGuffie but was more developed physically as a freshman at 210 pounds. He rushed for 349 yards as a freshman. Since McGuffie had 880 yards rushing and 384 yards receiving, over 1200 yards from scrimmage 9 tds id say hes progressing nicely. Only 2 other players had at least 880 rushing and 380 receiving, want to guess who the other 2?

  • I know one is JJ Di Luigi, also a white runningback. Notorious for running all over Cali super power team De La Salle. He was a junior last year, first year starting. 917 rushing 8 tds 443 yards 1 td last year for BYU. Should have a breakout season next year if healthy.

  • i havent watched this guy live buy i have been watching him on youtube and the man is a beast!

  • CHECK OUT MY HIGHLIGHTS!!!

  • He's a talented kid no doubt but he will never be a feature back. If his frame is indeed full he might not make it as a returner either.

I noticed during his Michigan highlights that he had some nice vision and burst to get about 7 yards. Unless the D is stacked at the line and you blow by them on a baited blitz draw then they will converge between 2-6 yards on average. Feature backs can fight for those yards and get the 1st. He physically cannot. Great role player tho...I'd take him on my team

  • @healthguyfsu umm hes 205 at 5'11. Reggie Bush is 203 at 6'0, Chris Johnson is 5'11 191. We're not talking about what he did at UM as a true freshman right after high school, we're talking about the 1200 yards from scrimmage he had last year as well as 9 tds. Did u even watch this video? His vision is actually the one thing that he needs to work on. He has power to plow through arm tackles, very slippery, can overpower dbs, cant ask much more from a scatback. His speed up to 40 yards is elite

  • his frame could probably add about 5 to 10 pounds of muscle wo losing much speed though. I am talking about puberty and adult growth, he looked like a boy at Mich, hes thicker now, wider frame

  • Really, nobody has anything to say now that he put up over 1200 yards from scrimmage his 2nd season? At least 500 people had something to say when he was looking average as a true freshman, one that still was filling out his frame, he looks like a man now compared to a boy at Michigan. RichRod should have redshirted him, yet he still had 600+ yards and managed to avg 4 ypc behind a line that sucked and 2 qbs not suited for RichRods scheme
