I was born in Cleveland, When I was a kid it was great living there, ( I'm talking Early 60's ), But it got really bad about 1969 and it seemed everybody was leaving, we left in 1972 and I haven't been back since. I have heard it is just as bad now, that's a shame,all my good memories are tied to Cleveland.

Funny comments about the accents. To properly get the Cleveland accent say the word "dad" this way..... DEE-ADD. Except say it at normal speed. Or the word "school" with 2 distinct syllables..... SCKEW-ULL. Now say "guyses" as the plural for guys use the word "that" when it's entirely not necessary, and you are good to go!

to sophie. I am from the west New York area and know many a people from the upper Ohio area who talk in more of a flat accent. Whereas my friends and I of NY still use words like "wicked" to describe the greatness of something... Which is unheard of in NE Ohio. Ohioans also use "pop" and "soda" interchangably. There is a different accent everywhere you travel.

Cleveland does have a lot of history, and used to be the 5th largest U.S. city. BUT, it's all been downhill since. There was a brief 'resurgence' when Mike White was mayor in the late 90's, but major industry has left, foreclosures and underemployment is high, morale is low, and our sports teams can't win national titles. The weather here is a JOKE (dank, rainy, and snowy most of the year), and incompetence is everywhere. People are fleeing NE Ohio in huge numbers for opportunity elsewhere.

How sad, about how E.Cleve is today! I lived there till I was 11, then our big family moved to burb just about 20 miles away with lots of land & a horse farm up the road. We moved because the E.Cleve neighborhood was becoming violent and unfriendly, my sister was spat on & a kid down the street pulled a knife on my brother on his way home from school. I attended St. Philomena's school until we left E. Cleve, so sad 2 hear of it's worsening. I absolutely loved it in my earlier years!
