I don't know why you talk shit about the senator that is really interested in what he has to say, he probably is just happy or maybe surprised at the intelligence of the troops.
If he was acting the opposite and being apathetic, then I'd talk shit.
Unfortunately, so many billions of dollars are being made that the mission is now nothing more than to keep the war going and cash flowing. Fick is a man of honor in a nation that sees blood only as a way to make a buck.
Captain Fick, like many other good Marines, left the Corps because the Corps is unwilling to bend, to change its perceptions immediately. Don't get me wrong... I loved the Corps but there are some things that people with common sense and reason are not willing to do. The Corps is then left with too many careerists who keep ruining it for the guys that are trying to make things better. The Corps needs more officers like Captain Fick. Semper Fi, Sir. I would follow you to the very depths of Hell.
Any officer that cares about his men more than the Marine Corps cannot survive and succeed. Most good Company Grade Officer's I served with, including myself, left to avoid further BULLSHIT!
I emailed him not so long ago and was surprised when he emailed back... he comes across as such a good bloke who is sure of exactly where he is placed in the world. I don't think anyone could not respect him.
My OSA was in the 15th MEU with Lt. Fick. And he wasn't in Recon in Afghansitan, I beleive he was invited to Recon indoc. upon returning home from Operation Enduring Freedom. But he was with 1st Recon Bn. during OIF and the push to Baghdad.
Personally, I don't think he should have ever have left the Marines. He is a fine officer and a caring one at that. Those are the kind of people that you need leading this fight. I read his book and I felt that he suffered from being a little disillusioned. I think that aspect made him want to get out. I honestly wish that had not been the case.
after reading one bullet away and seeing his interveiws on pbs, i am almost certain fick is going to run for president someday, maybe he'll be the first marine to make it that far.
Capt. Fick was in Force Recon and he's a Dartmouth grad so I think he knows what he's talking about. I would personally like to see him in politics one day. Read "One Bullet Away" (autobiographical) or my favorite "Generation Kill" to learn about his leadership in Recon during Afghanistan and Iraq.
I think Fick's actor was a bit too young :\
BeyondLame 10 months ago
@BeyondLame You have to remember that generation kill takes place in '01, five years before. A lot can change in 5 years.
MrDibblesIV 7 months ago
@BeyondLame He's a year younger, the actor is, and he was playing him like 5 years in the past, so if anything he was four years too old.

Then go to college and become an officer and learn how to take care of your men and get their respect. not by your rank but by your action.

Please post more of the Hearing. If their were more Officers in the armed forces like him, Iraq would be a far better place than it is today.
