I didn't know that a close to 50 year old speaker enclosure design had been renamed.
This is a folded horn.
The channel or path is lengthened to "tune" the woofer to it's most predictable and optimal frequency. By creating a "hallway" (T-lines) instead of a big open "room" with open windows (A typical 2nd or 3rd order enclosure), you've increased the distance the air/sound has to travel in a confined space.
could you please pm me the demenssions of this box and how think of wood u are using, nice vid man keep it up! how hard are u hitting with it on scale?? must be beast
@mrdodgeram1999 - Thin cheap laminates are light and will flex with the sound pressure, making their own sound which distorts your music. You want the walls to be very heavy and rigid so they don't resonate with your bass. You can use 3/4" baltic birch plywood. But that's expensive and prone to splitting. MDF is solid, dense, and won't split. It's a good material. In general, thick and heavy is best.
They didn't bother showing the results because they couldn't wait to listen to it. Then they found out that it sounds good then they forgot all about finishing the rest of the video. I think thats what happened.
i have a 12 in pioneer tsw5000spl will this box an mesurements be good for my sub havent got the right box for it can you help me by giving me the mesurements for this box thaks for the help
it would perform better if at every angle the port gets slightly wider, that will amplify the the bass. if the port stays the same size from start to end then its not much better than a regular L-port.
its unfortunate that a good T/line box takes that much space i saw someonebuilding a small one for his 10 inch and the sound wasnt as good as it was later in the bigger (more suited) size box
@danielquintana52 T-lines lower harmonic distortion and depending on what type of T-line, it will resonate to its tuned Fs. It is usually 1/4 the wavelength because a whole would be very big if you were to tune the line to lets say 32hz. that would be around 32 feet.
@danielquintana52 A t-line is generally a giant port that is 1/4 of the length of the sound-wave that you're tuning to. You can add loading chambers and throats, which will help you get the exact kind of response you get. You can also taper the "port" either smaller or larger to get a desired response. There's really a lot you can do with t-line/horn design...very fun to play and experiment with.
I have a website for my box designs if anyone is interested in getting something like this done.
Looks good. I wish I had something like this. Lol. My mom would kill me though lol. She gets mad cuz my 4 inch in the T-line shakes the lights in her room (right below mine). In one of your other vids it looked like you ran the amp for it off a computer psu, is that right? I had heard of doing that but never tried. I can't do much at the moment since I leave for college in 2 weeks but I'm hoping to get a better set up in my room next summer or something.
