I've found that Cattail Steam works best for me in making a hand friction fire. Could you include in the comments what woods, etc your using; Thank you.

@hobbexp It depends on how hard I push down I guess. I usually don't really push down hard until the last two or three passes so maybe that's why.

@MrSchpankme I've had success using cattail with basswood and yucca hearths. Tonight, I was using horseweed and eastern white cedar.
