c armen had it from day one as piano player and a great story teller in song i will love her forever i can still feel the love and soul in my whole body and mind from sitting at her feet for two weeks at the Matodor bringing me to tears and joy with beauty with her strength and tenderness i have seen her in many music clubs maybe 100 times and she still can blow a little dust off my heart
How can you not love Carmen? She had an icy-cool way about her, easing through songs like she was getting ready for work. She almost appeared bored, but that was part of her charm. The lady~giants of jazz all eased through songs but not with the aloof and matter-of-fact approach of McRae. She was definitely one of the greats. I can't believe that she doesn't have a star on the walk of fame....
I think Carmen was just a beautiful as she wanted to be here. In the beginning, it seems like the pianist [Norman Simmons] is somewhat intimidated by her simple question of, "How was that...did you enjoy doing that?" But they settle into a swingin' version of this tune and she's just brilliant throughout. I love her.
I love her repport with the camera before she got into the song..She seems very comfortable and well at ease with herself..Without a doubt a women of strength, confidence, sex appeal and yet very feminine at the same time..Women of today take notes cause most of you have'nt got a clue...
I can't get the lyrics on line I've been looking for them but I can't found them
My lenguage is Spanish and I tried to write the lyrics by listening the song but it's really difficult to me So if somebody could write them I'll ber very very happy
please do it I really really really really LOVE this song.
If you come trough say that youre mine Ill make your life great big valentine Well be ???? new love world for two And well find joy no lovers ever knew I wanna stay here by your side And keep your arms forever occupied Cant you imagine how empty my future would be If you never fell in love with me If you come trough say that youre mine Ill make your life great big valentine Well be ???? new love world for two And Well find joy no lovers ever knew
Even after all of that "unresponsiveness" at the begining, the pianist was really cunning and quick to give her the tone of the song in a discrete way at the very instant she turned back at him, actually before she even asked "Okay?".!!!
She was quite a gal ;) and yesssir: She was very authoritative with her musicians, quite bossing around sometimes. But so were Betty Carter and Anita O'Day or Sarah Vaughan. Tough ladies with a life experience. Great musicians as well!
This footage is great. It's amazing that something from this era has such wonderful audio. Very clear. Thank you so much for posting this clip. I saw this once in a documentary , and it was only the last part. Thanks again.
This is vintage! I remember meeting her when i was a teenager. My Mother, who was a
vocalist and friend of hers introduced me. She was in rehearsal at a club in St. Louis. She
was very personable and professional. She held up rehearsal to talk and i stayed for the
entire rehearsal. Every performer at one time will have to adhib. They have many, many
songs in their repertoire. You forget or interchange lyrics, lol. This was an era the stars
fell on.

@beeshor1 Carmen Mcrae could be quite hard on her pianists. I've been to her rehearsals. If you'd witnessed the rehearsals, you'd fully understand.

correction to coda lyrics
with all my hopes at an end
My world would tumble to ruins
And yet I see no reason
Why we should let
Fate change the stream of romance
When all it needs is a chance

Hey I'm not a native english but that's how I heart it, there are some mistakes for sure, but someone will correct me anyway :)
I loved you so since that first day
The angels let you leave and come my way
Dont you see what a lost lady Im able to be
If you never fall in love with me
Im not the girl I was before
Cause now you own my heart for ever more
Ill be a sail or a drift on an uncharged sea
If you never fall in love with me

Thank you so much,
And I wanna tell you something I think that
this part of the song it's
We'll build the new love world for two.
And I wanna ask you, where are you from?
and, what lenguage do you speak?

I wanna stay here by your side
And keep your arms forever occupied
Cant you imagine how empty my future would be
If you never fell in love with me
This little tragedy could turn into a rhapsody
With all my hopes sated in my world would trumbled to ruin
And yet I see no reason we should let
They change as dream of romance
When all that need is a chance
