hahaha next he will put some ricer wheels and body kit and lower it of coarce and then put a huge wind dragging ricer wing in the back and an exhaust tip of coarce :) hahahaha thats what happens when you go CHEAP
It's a v6 and always be s v6 ! We laugh at u when u do all this work to a car that is worth nothing when u go to sell it 5 years later! Don't waste your money on exhaust ! It sounds like shit! Buy a real car! Get a v8!
@onlycodered , the v6 mustangs have a light weight driveshaft to help with fuel economy! This is why Ford sets the speed limit at 113 mph! Tuners and people that don't know what they are doing and they remove the 113 mph speed limiter this is the end result! The first person that this happened to tried to file a law suit with Ford and when the dealer found the car had a chip in it and speed limiter was removed the guy was SHIT OUT OF LUCK! HIS FAULT!! Don't be a cheap ass! Buy a v8
@kwmiked yes i have been a ASE master tech for many years and you are right about all of that except you left something out. The tires usually in most cases the speed limiter is set to what ever the speed rating of the tires are many people came to the shop i worked trying to get us to install chips in cars with stock tires but here it is a law that the car must have the proper speed rated tires on it first before we are allowed to chip them if not then the shop will be liable for it
@Flea420 Okay, except people are having them break just driving down the interstate now. My second one broke without any racing/dyno/or abuse put on it while driving through a parking lot. So its more like Ford has a bad design on these. Anyway, its been up to 160mph on the dyno now with a nice custom shaft. Econobox race car ftw!
What exactly were you doing in the parking lot? How quickly were you accelerating? Were you doing a burnout? Do you have any pictures of the second broken shaft? I am trying to do all the research possible before I decided whether or not an aftermarket shaft is right for me. I don't plan to push my car that much since I drive it daily but I'd like to have the option to take it to the track at some point.
@onlycodered The car was NOT beaten on at all when the 2nd shaft broke - no burnouts, no chirped gears, no drag racing, etc. Only regular, normal driving. I was not driving it the 2nd time it happened, it was at the shop who repaired the exhaust when it broke again. All he did was back up over the non-running dyno roller in the floor (as every other car ever in that shop has done) and backed it into their parking lot, and it broke again. I will try and remember to link a pic asap.
@volvogeek a V6 mustang is an econobox (econobox means economy mustang that every one can afford) in other words could not afford a v8 so they saved money an bought a v6
mine just did the same last week except it broke slightly differently. ford warranteed it and all but definitely looking into an aluminum 1 piece right now
my dad has a 1971 440 6 pak cuda and when his driveshaft dropped, that smoke was coming out the exhaust a couple sec before it happened, never did that n the first few dyno runs maybe driveshaft knocking off the exhaust which caused the smok? just a guess
well this sucks. I thought the v6 had the same driveshaft was the GT.. I havent done a thing to my 11 v6, except put some billet door locks in. Tune and intake coming up sooner or later. I was thinking of doing BBK headers and full cat back down the road...but after seeing this, im worried to even get it dynoed!
One piece driveshaft or bust!! That really sucks. If I bought a new mustang... The first thing I would do is order an aluminum or carbon fiber one piece D.Shaft. I think it saves over 25 pounds as well as being much stronger. You'll gain some performance from one I would presume. Sorry about your mustang. It's still an amazing machine.
I see you ordered one a few months ago. Good decision! Did you notice any gains in performance from it? Even if you didn't, the strength of the 1pc alone is well worth it.
ouch the only good that came out of this is it is a good thing it happened on the Dyno and not on the say racetrack or open highway results might have been a bit worse
@qbubbaq Just exhaust blowing out - the twin independent variable valve timing kicking in at the top of the dyno run. We only had the exhaust on up to the mufflers (put on a Pypes cat back an hour before the vid). The second puff was right when the shaft broke.
The independent variable valve timing is used through out the RPM band, retards timing for Lower end TQ and advances timing as the rpm's Increase till the cars Duel Knock Sensors hear something and stops advancing the timing.
Damn, thank god it didn't happen while you were driving!
Ford really shouldn't have cheaped out had China make all their shit! Sorry to hear man...hey maybe you can go get a lightweight one, turn a neg. into a positive
@PoleKitten87 Mine just snapped on the freeway while going up hill @ WOT! It caused a lot of damage to the car and it even put a hole in the floor. Who makes the aluminum one that you ordered? Is it stronger? Do you like it? How much does it cost? What is a loop? Now Im going to be afraid to drive my car until I get a better shaft installed.
@jonkolo13 The stock driveshaft broke not only once, but they replaced it and it broke AGAIN, without any type of abuse (no dyno, racing, nothing. Lasted a month). We got the new one from Driveshaft Shop (DSS). Much better. We had the car up to 160mph on the dyno and have drag raced it with absolutely no issue with it. It was close to $650 though. Its rated to up around 600hp I believe. A driveshaft loop is something that basically keeps your driveshaft from flailing around if a joint breaks.
cast aluminum driveshaft FTW!!! I <3 FORD

thats what happens when you use a drive shaft that is built mainly for everyday use not high speed
CommunityBaptistChur 6 months ago
@CommunityBaptistChur The driveshaft should never bee the weak point at these levels of power.
