We're also employing green screening, and have the software and know-how to produce effects that will at the very least be on-par with an amateur film. We've already tested effects for the Dragonballs, auras and the sheer, unmitigated destruction involved.
My suggestion to you is to make it feel right, instead of trying to just copy the anime. Make it work in live action. Make anime and real life meld seamlessly.
Interesting that you found some old cars who's windows you could smash, but otherwise, not particularly impressive. Costumes, okay, Dragonballs, interesting that you could find those; bit small though. Sound, at least not from the anime. Effects, pretty dismal and choppy. Acting, mediocre.
Look, you're trying too hard to do the anime. DBE got SOME things right. Don't try doing canon characters because you won't match up. Don't do ridiculous costumes. Don't do aliens, you don't have the makeup.
I'm currently doing a fanfilm that uses an original cast and starts the search for the Dragonballs anew. My HD camcorder just arrived in the mail today, actually. We're trying to employ what worked in DBE, and fix what didn't work. And instead of fights with no explanations, we're bothering to go over an entire plotline with character development, training, character goals, so we have a story instead of a random brawl. We also have locations perfect for a full scale Dragonball battle.
