Heard this band on Alan Freeman's Saturday show, bought the album and it has stayed with me ever since. Amazingly timeless and eternaly offbeat. I thought I was the only one in the world that that knew of this band! I still have the recording of 'fluff' talking the band up on the radio! You tube keeps culture alive!
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!! I NEVER THOUGHT THAT I WOULD HEAR THIS BAND AGAIN!!! This is a totally rare group and just on a whim i typed it in and i never thought it would pop up. I've looked all over the place to find Automatic Man these days and can't find it anywhere. You are a true collector of fine music my friend. When this album first came out i bought it just because i liked the cover and was astounded at how far ahead of it's time it was. It was a hit at many of my parties!
I actually saw Bayete (Todd Cochran) while he was playing with Julian Priester early 70's sometime. You can hear him playing keyboards on Julian's "Love Love" LP released in 1973/74 :)...all of the players featured on the debut Automatic Man LP are excellent. Did you know that other than playing with Pat Travers, that Pat Thrall was Steve Howe's replacement in "Asia" (early 90's)?
talk about bringing back memories!!! wow...this is one of those albums i lost from my collection that i couldn't replace...had the pink one too!!! this is one of those groups that died out because the mundanes couldn't comprehend what was going on..welcome to the future!!! thanx for posting this...maybe finally now they'll get something out of it...until
Strange such a great band didn't become bigger. Amazing guitar and drums- never understood why Thrall didn't become known as one of the major guitarists!
I worked at a record store when this album was released. Most customers didn't buy it because they didn't understand it. We returned several unsold copies to our distributer. I scooped a copy up though! I was impressed echos of Jimi Hendrix fused together with Todd Cochran's (Bayete) futuristic approach. When "My Pearl" made the Hits List the album received some attention but didn't really catch on. I believe this is an important album that still influences many musicians, like Prince for one.
A band that had no equals. Completely unique. The best momenst on this record are as good as it gets. The second record pales in comparison in all respects. Any live tapes of this line up out there?
Ahhh, cool! I have the vinyls - been a fan since 70's. When Thrall joined Travers, I had to check out his other discography - this band doesn't disappoint .
@charvelguy Yes cool and thank you. No disappointment here. I have never got to see them live . I saw the 1980 Pat Travers show @ the Santa Monica Civic.
(Blown away). Thrall was amazing and Pat and the rest of the band, What can i say. Thank you again.

@DrChopz
This band was a great fusion of personal and musical talent. Creating at will, you might say " out of the box"
There contribution far out ways the record sales.
Thank you very much for your insight.

@DrChopz I agree. I bought the one and only copy at a small record store when it came out. Still one of my top ten debut albums of all time.

Please post everything that you have by them. These songs take me back to my college days. Jamming music in the basement with my brother.
