Question, why would something like yardage matter at all. Yardage is affected by wind, terrain, club design, and elevation. It is the quality of the contact and ball flight which concern me, not the yardage. An 8 Iron in denver may be a 160 vs 145 in massachussets, I hit a 7 Iron 215 recently, but the ground was frozen... lol... Professionals aren't concerned about how far they hit their irons, but whether they can hit them consistently the same distance every time with predictable flight.
Bro i admire your passion for the game but i would invest in a Range Finder (Bushnell) Your Boys need to stop lying to you. Go make a name for yourself
You're an idiot. Just shut the hell up. He's nowhere close to 6'5" or 250 pounds and if you knew anything about the swing you'd know his isn't powerful enough to hit a 7 iron 185, let alone an 8 iron.
@GolfMatthew First of all this is a tall ass dude, don't believe me look at his bg on his page, he's atleast one foot taller than the car and he's slouching. He doesn't need to force his power because it's all there in the length of his arms and he can strike the ball.
Sigh. Just stop. Power doesn't come from arm length. I'm MUCH shorter than him and I'm still one of the longest people in my entire state. It's a matter of the swing being correct, which his isn't.
@ColdAsHe11 no i dont forget it.. but i dont pick it up like a just ripped a driver right down the fairway like a dumbass. and neither does anyone on tour you would know that if you knew shit about this sport
@joesphporta if you hit you pw 150 im pretty sure yourself can crank an 8 iron to the length, and id say 15 percent of the tour can hit it that far.. not 1 percent
ive hit a 8 iron 180 before, but crap i went 100 %, and i do think this is 185 , its not hard to reach swing speeds like that if uve been playing for a while, like a 9iron 150 yards for me now a days feels very soft and goes 140 if wind picks up , i believe he can crank it up out there, he hits it in the middle, you can tell because his back swing is nicely on plane, i mean its really not hard when you have a good swing guys, ive hit 7 iron 190, 6 iron 200, and only on the tee i do that
@helenathena The swing doesn't have that much lag or speed. Also to hit an 8 iron 185 you'd need an 8 iron SS of about 105 mph, which is greater than 99% of PGA tour players. Also the lofts of clubs are different and make a huge difference.
So no it didn't carry 185 yards, the mechanics just aren't there. Hitting a 9 iron 150 yards isn't hard, I'd choke down on a 9 iron to get it down to 150. I'd normally hit a hard 49* PW about 150, at sea level.
Would u happen to have any tips for speed? I have a slightly bigger than 90 degree shoulder turn and lagging the club is no problem. The problem is that my CH speed is inconsistent. One day it's 115, then 95 the next.....without changing anything. Quite frustrating...
185 8 iron? Yeah and I hit my putter when i'm inside 100 yards. Anyone can lie on youtube, but at least make the video look like it went 185...nowhere close buddy.
@ls1eater wtf? that's not jealousy, it's the truth. most amateurs hit an 8 iron around 150-160. i hit mine only about 145-150 (yards). i doubt you even hit your 8 iron past 170
@Sigurdurhelgi what kind of math did you apply to get that retarded number? jamie sadlowski hits his 7 iron 260 and he carries the ball a good 380 with a standard length driver.
American yards must be much shorter than British yards (like British and American gallons). This is why every American on Youtube drives the ball 300 "yards" and can hit an eight iron 185. I bet their anglers catch record breaking fish every day, too!
I can hit an 8 iron 200 yards if i deloft my club, play it in the back, swing as hard as i can, and make perfect contact. A 185 yd 8 iron for this guy (well over 6 ft) is not unbelievable at all. In fact i'm sure if he really wanted to, he could crank it out there a lot further than that.
@rkelly6946 are you kidding me? the guy doesn't even take a full swing, its about a 3 quarter swing, and he's not swinging fast at all. By the way that swing is, he cannot possibly of hit that ball 185 yard with an 8 iron
Depends on conditions and lie. It's not impossible. It's just that you're not going to _average_ 185 with that swing, with an 8-iron, approximately at sea level, on level ground, with no wind, from a clean lie that produces full backspin. There's also the fact that many par-3s will have a stated distance that is shorter than the actual distance. Still, it really is a good swing, unlike a lot of the posers out here.
Also: It depends on the 8-iron. Lofts on irons are nearly a full club lower than they were when I was in my 20s (and playing a lot of competitive golf with Wilson Staffs). It's absolutely stupid how long people can hit it now, with ball technology, lower lofts, and other tech aspects. I was one of the longest good players around (plus-2 hcp) back when almost everybody was playing persimmon, and here I am 25 years later hitting it 40 yards farther off the tee. It's nuts.
Nice swing very on plane. Looks good but I don't know about 185 with an 8 iron... maybe like 170-175 but 185 doesn't seem like it would happen looking at your swing. Check out my swing.
nice shot... its pretty ridiculous how lengthy you are. I myself hit my 8 iron 150-160 which is fairly lengthy for most people. I find it insane when I find longer hitters than me so nice job bro. Keep it up.
your setup looks like you play golf often, you know your routine, nice swing, and hitting an 8 iron 185 is ridiculous even for hitting it off the deck.
honestly I don't have any mechanics that I work on, my swing was never coached it was just something I naturally picked up on by watching golf on TV.
The only thing I will suggest is grab 2 small towels and put one under each arm and take an 8 iron and work on keeping your swing short and compact. hit them about 50 yards shorter than normal.
@TheHoyster13 a great drill to keep your right elbow low, is to try and complete a swing with something in your arm-pit... I used a odessy putter head cover... If you can complete the swing, without the head cover dropping out of your arm-pit, you will will unconsciously do this on the course after enough repetition... and you will notice your elbow will stay very close to your side...
