@DoctorBastardo I had a family and started my own business in Mankey Snatchers britain.... then she took the milk... I'd already lost 3 jobs since leaving school by dockyards being decimated, and the working man, whom this trainee clerk relied on, having no work. Then the miners. @DoctorBastardo yes and by fuck did we suffer! it's poetic justice or karma, either way she deserves it more than anyone i know! she ruined so many lives, 4 million for a start, i just hate everything about her, her voice, well she's got about 3 different voices, she's got her own voice she's got her angry voice and she's got a pretend softer voice that makes tories think that she's caring, just hate everything about her can't wait for her to pop her cloggs and fuck off to hell.
@TheCoon2000 I think its funny that no English actress would portray her in the film!
She ruined my life mate. I left school straight into work. Time after time the jobs I had went under cos she destroyed the working mans chances. I finished off a junky. I kid ye not I cleaned up when major lost. Also her policys made my pensioner working mum very poor. She got £34 a month for my dads 28 years in the army (Staff Sgt) that £9 lost her all benefits after she retired.
@DoctorBastardo i left school and went straight on to a yts, after 1 year i was put on another scheme, scheme after scheme, i despise the woman, and there's all these idiots on here saying how great she is, as i said to them, did mummy and daddy have a thriving business because she didn't look after the workers only people with money,
@DoctorBastardo crime and drug dealing escalated during her regime, it's the only way people could make money, they couldn't get a job, you never can when the tories are in, cameron's taking us right back to the 80's
@TheCoon2000 Could not agree more mate. I dont like any politicians but thatcher and her offspring are a special kind of evil. I'm not a labour fanatic but in my lifetime tory govt equals riots, unemployment, the poor paying for their excesses and education for those who can afford it. They will blame labour and in ten years time another tory plot (like the one against wilson) will get one days media time, cos the scum run the press. My parents believed that hard work made you free.
@DoctorBastardo when they're in office the working class people get shat on, can't believe they got in just don't understand ordinary folk that vote tory, i'll never figure it out, they only help the stinking rich, and all this rubbish that we're all in it together and those with the broadest shoulders blah blah, don't know exact figures but an ordinary person will be say £1,000 per year worse off and a multi millionare will be £1,200 worse off, we all know a millionare won't be affected by £200
@TheCoon2000 They got in cos liberal voters are frightened of the lower classes. I think the whole concept of class stinks, but in England it seems to give the sun reader something to aspire to. Like working hard, being a good parent and being honest isnt enough. Instead of winning the money to send "ones" kids to a private school why not make comps better! Reality TV furthers the lies, be a star or be nothing. Theres always a new generation of "MiddleClass" wannabes ready to kiss tory butt.
@TheBeepb00p shut up twat! you're american, you're a fat doughnut munching yank! was she your pm? no she wasn't so shut up you fucking idiot, now suck my balls
@TheCoon2000 Annie?? PS all you thatcher lovers deserve a good kick in the knickers. (Not knackers cos as we all know tory blokes aint got none) Twatcher or the whore of babylon as she is better known made the rich richer & the poor from working people. I say peel the slag with a blunt potato peeler, roll it in salt,it might explode proving its decended from slugs. Douse in petrol, set fire, then all the people she made suffer can gather round & keep warm, finally giving it a purpose to exist.
@DoctorBastardo hope you're not getting me mixed up with a tory? i hate the bastards! and i fucking despise that old bastard thatcher, check out some of my comments!
@TheCoon2000 Not at all mate, Ive read lots of your comments and agree! I just lost the Annie Annie thing! dunno what means. + I had some words left so I added my thoughts on the old bastard to fill space..
@DoctorBastardo did i post it in your channel by mistake? i was arguing with yet another thick tory, they really are arseholes! he was 6 years old during the miners strike and he said he understood it all at just 6 years old, think he's been brainwashed by his tory parents, they think unemployed people are scum and left wing are scum, what chance have we got when they're in power? can't wait till thatcher dies i'm going to have a massive party!
@jakxcombat Quite right you are, she did indeed make mistakes because of her rigged ideals. To be fair though Britain was in deep decline because of the previous left wing government, so many of her policies that caused repercussions effectively helped to bring the country from going bust. Of course there are aspects of her premiership I don't agree with, so I think you're admirable for understanding my point of view.
@GrandmaMargaret1 Wow ..You are over here playin' the classy lady ,eh? Two faced evil witch!! Do u allow you're grandkids to read your youtube postings? No ? I'll see that they get that post from the Hitch tribute page.
Wow, this guy is barely even trying to hide his contempt at about 4:20 when he describes the Victorian values. Why should conservatives tolerate leftist hedonism when they show utmost disgust for godly virtue?

you cannot deny the greatness of the woman...she transformed britain for the better and improved all that she touched...and she had an undeniable charm. Can the same be said of the left wing impoverished miserable workers who would like to see the world burn?
@mrswozzle 'Arf a mo, sunshine.. WHY THE FUCK DO THINK THAT WORKERS yes WORKING PEOPLE are impoverished and miserable. Who emptys your bins, delivers your mail, who made the food you eat, how do think electricity gets into your home. Who teaches your offspring, works in your local hospital... bloody idiot person (do you qualify as a woman?)
@mrswozzle look at the state of britain during the 80's and the 90's it was like a third world country, only the wealthy liked her, oh wait a minute silly me, did you have a nice little business and thatcher lowered your taxes? i can assure you she did fuck all for the ordinary people, she tried to destroy them, infact the word genocide comes to mind, now fuck off again you old bastard, can't wait till the day the evil old bastard dies, i'm going to be so happy!
I absolutely adore Margaret Thatcher. She overcame social barriers and bigoted attitudes during her era, providing an absolutely amazing role model for me. She made mistakes but that is the error of being human. She is an amazing woman and I wish I could meet her.
@Heylen94 "she made mistakes" tell that to the people of yorkshire, scotland, the midlands ect where the majority of the men worked in the mines or heavy industry. Thanks to Margaret Thatcher and her government, the mines and heavy industry was shut down, piece by piece. Now what happens to all the men who worked in the mines and factories once there shut down, long story short, Northern England and Scotland is plunged into economic depression for nearly 20 years with record unemployment.
@98raza20 I highly doubt it was her soul objective to plunge Northern England and Scotland into economic depression, as you have so blatantly put it. I do not objectify to the fact that her policies caused further repercussions, but it was a necessity during a period of economic decline. I once again reitify she introduced policies which caused repercussions, but I admire her because of my idealist attitude and her abillity to overcome bigoted attitudes in a conservative era.
@98raza20 I have no belief in pushing my conservative ideals upon you. I express these beliefs only because I feel gratitude for her perseverance. She is my idealistic role model. I believe it particularly apt to add the latter period of her premiership is reffered to by many economists, as the "economic miracle". She rejuvinated a britain plagued by strikes and dictats such as Arthur Scargill. I feel sadness for the circumnstances many miners find themselves in.
@Heylen94 I also feel sadness, no wait was that anger, resentment, horror, disbelief...
She made enemys of more than half the country, thats why the torys aint won an election since. All the saddos scared of dockers, miners, fishermen etc yet disagreeing with bigotry and injustice shot themselves in the foot by voting liberal, dont bank on that ever happening again. The internet has closed the gap between liberal middle england & the "working" classes. Sod yer ideals we will never forgive her!
@98raza20 Rather cynical aren't we. Margaret Thatcher is my idealistic role model, I don't believe it necessay to explain why I admire her. Yes I absolutely believe you are entitled to your opinion, but my view remains the same. I don't wish to objectify your beliefs so that is all I have to say on the matter.
@Heylen94 She is neither human nor woman. Social Barriers wot total bollox, shes related to the windsor battenbergs. Do you even know grantham....... I presume 94 was your birthyear. So how on earth would you know about the suffering she caused. In the UK tories in power equals riots in the cities. How the hell are you people so deluded.
@HardcoreHalalHater the unemployment thing was true, but before her the economy was pure socailism, the governmnet controlled everything, so the measures were needed which she implemented, yes there was short term pain, but the long term prosperity was worth it., the British need her sort again to deal with this mess, cameron is useless and haas no backbone
@ianfair13 I wish there were UKIP politicians in the tory party, UKIP reminds me of how the torys used to be, Nigel farrage would be an excellent foreign secretary. If we had influx of ukip members we could squash the leftie wets giving them less influence over the party
I admire her very much, she is my hero; role model. I'm so very bitter for the way the conservatives acted towards her. I absolutely adore her would love to meet her. She's absolutely fantastic and amazing
People can hate her all they want but without people like her we would never understand what pride is.Where are the Margeret Thatchers today when you need them?
In America, the closest we will EVER have to Margaret Thatcher is Ron Paul...She is without a doubt one of the greatest leaders of all time. Regards from the USA.
@HalfBornUnicornFetus ..Ron Paul? - don't you mean Ronald Reagan? Ron Paul would have eliminated the causes of national debt/slavery, Thatcher never even tried to do that.
@schustergph It's called Andrew Marr's history of modern Britain. The documentary series covers the social, political and economic history of Britain after 1945
Lol, what a joke. Thatcher won her landslide in '83 because she changed the bounderies. They calculated on the election night that if the rules had been applied to the 79 election, Thatcher would have won 20 seats at the expense of Labour.
One of the most damaging prime ministers of all time. She left our country economically equipped, but socially ruined. A total failure. Always up to Labour to sort out the country socially and morally.
@ToaJoe I'm sorry, but to hear a Labour supporter talking about the unfairness of constituency boundaries is a little more than I can stomach. If you ask any expert in the field, they will tell you that Labour currently have a substantial in-built electoral advantage over the Tories because of the skewed boundaries. Consider for a moment the fact that in 2005, Blair secured a majority with less of the popular vote (35.2%) than Cameron achieved for the Tories in 2010 (36.1%).
@UnitedBritannia It's not because of skewed boundaries, they do have a slight advantage over the Tories admittedly, but this is not intentional - with a FPTP system the vote share is not in line with the seat share; each candidate has to come first in the constituency, regardless of how much the wider party polls nationally, but I'm presuming you already know that. Cameron's issue was that his support was less concentrated, widely dispersed & as a result, came second in many constituencies
@patyo1994 The point about FPTP and vote share is a fair one, but there IS an issue of fairness with regard to the spread of constituency's, because Labour are traditionally stronger in areas with a greater number of seats up for grabs (i.e. inner city regions) whilst the Tories have much stronger support in areas where there are fewer seats available.
@UnitedBritannia I do agree, the tories have and always will be stronger in the rural areas (aside from the former mining counties - no guesses why - and Scottish & Welsh constituencies) but the problem is, if, like Cameron is doing now, and lower the constituency size (they're approx. 60,000 pop. each), then it could create a two tier system which potentially could effectively mean that people who live in inner-city areas have, basically, in its most boiled down form, a more worthless vote.
@patyo1994 Any delay in changing the constituency boundaries to reflect this movement of population UNFAIRLY advantages Labour. There are also further issues to consider - the over-representation of Wales in terms of the MPs its returns vs it's population, but far more importantly the issue of tactical voting which practically guarantees Labour victories in the vast majority of seats where the two parties have fairly equal support.
@UnitedBritannia Well one would have to look at why somebody was persuaded to tactically vote - presumably you're referencing negative cohesion aimed at the Tories (btw If AV did get passed in the referendum the Tories could completely lose out.) The point I was making previously was that a change in boundaries so audacious as the one Cameron will be doing is dangerous to democracy & tactical voting, whether you approve or not, is the will of the electorate, and is their choice alone.
@patyo1994 These are all important factors in elections, but the real reason Cameron didn't win an overall majority was his total failure to construct a coherent political message that resonated with members of the C1/C2 socio-economic groups - precisely the kind of aspirational working and middle-class voters that kept Margaret Thatcher in office for 3 consecutive terms.
@UnitedBritannia Additionally, Cameron's packing of the Lords hardly screamed "I love democracy" - more like "I love democracy so much I want to bypass it". Having said that, Thatcher's first election victory, realistically, wasn't because of her personal support, but due to negative cohesion - Callaghan was a joke. And, her second term was only guaranteed due to the Falklands Conflict. It's very difficult to compare today to then though
@patyo1994 I don't think the Lords issue really had much potency with the electorate I have to say, particularly because Labour (Cash for Honours) were hardly in a position to capitalise on it. I would argue that 79 wasn't an endorsement of Thatcher personally, no, but it WAS a comprehensive rejection of the left-wing, big government economic policy that had previously been the consensus but by that time had patently failed to restore economic growth or achieve political stability.
@UnitedBritannia I do take your Lords point, it was a cheap shot at Cameron lol, though I still think it's outrageous how the upper house is pushed & pulled by the government of the day, whatever party. I am quick to comment on your point that it was a rejection of big government etc. & Although tri-partism was rife in the 70s with Lab, in that post-war period, it was Lab/Tories every other election, the Tories had plenty chance to "restore" economic growth with their elitist philosophy
@patyo1994 That's one of the reasons why I expected good government from Cameron in a way; you have this huge 18 year Tory period, followed by a huge 13 year Labour period, which was unprecidented until its occurrence. Whatever people have to say about Thatcher or Blair, there are quite a few parallels - both strong leaders with clear cut policies, both with very weak successors (Major & Brown, respectively). That's why I had fathomed Cameron leading to strong gov., though he came up short.
@patyo1994 I quite agree the Tories failed in the post-war period, precisely because they DID NOT contest and indeed whole heatedly BROUGHT INTO the Labour Party's central philosophy that greater govt. control over the economy and an enlarged public sector were the only way to govern. If you look at the policies of both parties prior to '79 you will find differences in rhetoric and emphasis, but very little between them in terms of substance. Thatcher was remarkable for reversing that consensus.
@patyo1994 Callaghan was actually more PERSONALLY popular than she was, so it wasn't just a personal vote against him, it was a rejection of his and the political establishments entire philosophy. I think it's difficult to speculate as to whether she would have won in '83 without the Falklands - I find it very difficult to believe that Foot would have romped home to any kind of substantial victory, I suspect it would have been a far closer election than many today now speculate.
@UnitedBritannia If all that nonsense where true Thatcher wouldn't have been scared of proportional representation. A government should elected by the majority of the people, not the majority of groups of people. It's a ludicrous situation when someone can gain power even if less than 50% of voters actually voted for them. That's certainly not democracy in any form, and if their had been a fairer means of election this country would not now be bankrupted by corporate bailouts
@MrBillcale Lib dems are a pointless party as the two main parties cover so much of the centre ground, but as a tory i would prefer P.R to A.V, that way it's not just libs who benefit but also other parties like greens and ukip, if we want an inclusive system then PR is better than AV making the lib dems king makers.
That is absolute nonsense and you know it. Thatcher won 4.5 million more votes than Michael Foot, or 15% in vote shares. Boundaries had nothing to do with it. She won a landslide in seats and in the popular vote. And your last sentence is laughable. Labour always leaves office with unemployment higher than when it came in, and it always devalues the currency. The Tories' historical purpose is now to clean up the mess left behind by socialism
@TheHayekian I didn't say she would have lost, dumbass. I said she won 20 more seats than she should have got. The whole reason she was able to ruin the country beyond repair was because of her large majorities.
Pitiful insults. She didn't ruin this country she saved it, and saved Eastern Europe in this process. She inherited inflation at 15%, and already rising. She inherited a sclerotic economy with destroyed industry and baronial unions. She got inflation down to 3% and the 1980's witnessed the fastest economic growth since WW2. And she got large majorities because the people agreed with her and voted accordingly. Anyone with basic economics knowledge appreciates Mrs Thatcher saved us
Does anyone know the song that starts playing at 4:49? I have the tune of it stuck in my head and I would really like to know the words or at lest the title.
globalisation = good made by people on low low wages = cheap goods for us = our industry too expensive for consumers to want their goods = industries die = country loses money = country bankrupt = no money to reinvest = only sources of investment is the free market = free market goes up its own arse = financial crisis = China prepares for world domination. Margaret Thatcher was not personally responsible for anything, it happened to america too.
More politically-biased left-wing twaddle from the BBC. Notice how at 3:05 the scene cuts from Margaret Thatcher talking to a pub sign which says "The Blue Pig".
@WizardKing78 Thatcher was the worst mistake this country ever made, she was elected because she was a woman. She destroyed communities, destroyed the transport infrastructure, and housing stock, all so she could make a profit, then she dismantling the voice of the individual. Now you have systems of conformity instead of unions. Where once you had the right to complain, now you can be stopped for no reason, and held without charge for over a month, without any justification or public trial..
@freddy77777 Most PM's are traitors and have been puppets of the Rothschilds banking mafia, she was no worse than any Labour PM in that respect, they've all sold us out, Blair being one of the worst.
I wish the whole country was forced to watch this video..especially the Loony Left and those with selective memories..so that everyone could see once again what a basket case of a country Thatcher inherited from Labour in 1979...a joke of a country.
She transformed the country and brought it off its knees..no one pretends it was easy and no one suffered but It was so necessary..so necessary.
She goes down as the best PM we've had since the war..by a country mile.
Yes, both the US and the UK. Try having Obama for a President.
Apparently, she's your Reagan. But you know, sometimes, I think Thatcher was even better. Reagan communicated in a way that connected both sides. But Thatcher convinced those to follow her, no questions asked. She is such an inspiration and we in the United States are approaching the point where we need "drastic surgery and bitter medicine" as she gave. You're right, all people in the free world should watch this.
Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, politically responsible for neoliberalist policies of the International Monetary Fund. Responsible for suffering and death of up to 100 000 000 people, primarily in Africa because of „structural adjustment“ (privatization etc.).
Leftist media still can;t over shadow her greatness as much as they would like. The money from the EU was only what was fair. Tyical that the medea make an issue of it,

@TheCoon2000 They got in cos liberal voters are frightened of the lower classes. I think the whole concept of class stinks, but in England it seems to give the sun reader something to aspire to.

I absolutely adore Margaret Thatcher. She overcame social barriers and bigoted attitudes during her era, providing an absolutely amazing role model for me. She made mistakes but that is the error of being human. She is an amazing woman and I wish I could meet her.
Heylen94 8 months ago 11
@Heylen94 "she made mistakes" tell that to the people of yorkshire, scotland, the midlands ect where the majority of the men worked in the mines or heavy industry. Thanks to Margaret Thatcher and her government, the mines and heavy industry was shut down, piece by piece. Now what happens to all the men who worked in the mines and factories once there shut down, long story short, Northern England and Scotland is plunged into economic depression for nearly 20 years with record unemployment.
98raza20 8 months ago
@98raza20 I highly doubt it was her soul objective to plunge Northern England and Scotland into economic depression, as you have so blatantly put it. I do not objectify to the fact that her policies caused further repercussions, but it was a necessity during a period of economic decline. I once again reitify she introduced policies which caused repercussions, but I admire her because of my idealist attitude and her abillity to overcome bigoted attitudes in a conservative era.
Heylen94 8 months ago
@98raza20 I have no belief in pushing my conservative ideals upon you. I express these beliefs only because I feel gratitude for her perseverance. She is my idealistic role model. I believe it particularly apt to add the latter period of her premiership is reffered to by many economists, as the "economic miracle". She rejuvinated a britain plagued by strikes and dictats such as Arthur Scargill. I feel sadness for the circumnstances many miners find themselves in.
Heylen94 8 months ago
@Heylen94 I also feel sadness, no wait was that anger, resentment, horror, disbelief...
She made enemys of more than half the country, thats why the torys aint won an election since. All the saddos scared of dockers, miners, fishermen etc yet disagreeing with bigotry and injustice shot themselves in the foot by voting liberal, dont bank on that ever happening again. The internet has closed the gap between liberal middle england & the "working" classes. Sod yer ideals we will never forgive her!

ToaJoe 1 year ago
@ToaJoe I'm sorry, but to hear a Labour supporter talking about the unfairness of constituency boundaries is a little more than I can stomach. If you ask any expert in the field, they will tell you that Labour currently have a substantial in-built electoral advantage over the Tories because of the skewed boundaries. Consider for a moment the fact that in 2005, Blair secured a majority with less of the popular vote (35.2%) than Cameron achieved for the Tories in 2010 (36.1%).
UnitedBritannia 1 year ago 16
@UnitedBritannia She is very well liked and admired here in the US. She and Reagan were two of the best leaders in recent history.
Texfield91 1 year ago
@Texfield91 u yanky fuckin cunt,u know nothing about that heartless TRAMP
SomeMadCunt 1 year ago
@UnitedBritannia It's not because of skewed boundaries, they do have a slight advantage over the Tories admittedly, but this is not intentional - with a FPTP system the vote share is not in line with the seat share; each candidate has to come first in the constituency, regardless of how much the wider party polls nationally, but I'm presuming you already know that. Cameron's issue was that his support was less concentrated, widely dispersed & as a result, came second in many constituencies
patyo1994 11 months ago
@patyo1994 The point about FPTP and vote share is a fair one, but there IS an issue of fairness with regard to the spread of constituency's, because Labour are traditionally stronger in areas with a greater number of seats up for grabs (i.e. inner city regions) whilst the Tories have much stronger support in areas where there are fewer seats available.
UnitedBritannia 11 months ago
@UnitedBritannia I do agree, the tories have and always will be stronger in the rural areas (aside from the former mining counties - no guesses why - and Scottish & Welsh constituencies) but the problem is, if, like Cameron is doing now, and lower the constituency size (they're approx. 60,000 pop. each), then it could create a two tier system which potentially could effectively mean that people who live in inner-city areas have, basically, in its most boiled down form, a more worthless vote.
patyo1994 11 months ago
@patyo1994 Any delay in changing the constituency boundaries to reflect this movement of population UNFAIRLY advantages Labour. There are also further issues to consider - the over-representation of Wales in terms of the MPs its returns vs it's population, but far more importantly the issue of tactical voting which practically guarantees Labour victories in the vast majority of seats where the two parties have fairly equal support.
UnitedBritannia 11 months ago
@UnitedBritannia Well one would have to look at why somebody was persuaded to tactically vote - presumably you're referencing negative cohesion aimed at the Tories (btw If AV did get passed in the referendum the Tories could completely lose out.) The point I was making previously was that a change in boundaries so audacious as the one Cameron will be doing is dangerous to democracy & tactical voting, whether you approve or not, is the will of the electorate, and is their choice alone.
patyo1994 11 months ago
@patyo1994 These are all important factors in elections, but the real reason Cameron didn't win an overall majority was his total failure to construct a coherent political message that resonated with members of the C1/C2 socio-economic groups - precisely the kind of aspirational working and middle-class voters that kept Margaret Thatcher in office for 3 consecutive terms.
UnitedBritannia 11 months ago
@UnitedBritannia Additionally, Cameron's packing of the Lords hardly screamed "I love democracy" - more like "I love democracy so much I want to bypass it". Having said that, Thatcher's first election victory, realistically, wasn't because of her personal support, but due to negative cohesion - Callaghan was a joke. And, her second term was only guaranteed due to the Falklands Conflict. It's very difficult to compare today to then though
patyo1994 11 months ago
@patyo1994 I don't think the Lords issue really had much potency with the electorate I have to say, particularly because Labour (Cash for Honours) were hardly in a position to capitalise on it. I would argue that 79 wasn't an endorsement of Thatcher personally, no, but it WAS a comprehensive rejection of the left-wing, big government economic policy that had previously been the consensus but by that time had patently failed to restore economic growth or achieve political stability.
UnitedBritannia 11 months ago
@UnitedBritannia I do take your Lords point, it was a cheap shot at Cameron lol, though I still think it's outrageous how the upper house is pushed & pulled by the government of the day, whatever party. I am quick to comment on your point that it was a rejection of big government etc. & Although tri-partism was rife in the 70s with Lab, in that post-war period, it was Lab/Tories every other election, the Tories had plenty chance to "restore" economic growth with their elitist philosophy
patyo1994 11 months ago
@patyo1994 That's one of the reasons why I expected good government from Cameron in a way; you have this huge 18 year Tory period, followed by a huge 13 year Labour period, which was unprecidented until its occurrence. Whatever people have to say about Thatcher or Blair, there are quite a few parallels - both strong leaders with clear cut policies, both with very weak successors (Major & Brown, respectively). That's why I had fathomed Cameron leading to strong gov., though he came up short.
patyo1994 11 months ago
@patyo1994 I quite agree the Tories failed in the post-war period, precisely because they DID NOT contest and indeed whole heatedly BROUGHT INTO the Labour Party's central philosophy that greater govt. control over the economy and an enlarged public sector were the only way to govern. If you look at the policies of both parties prior to '79 you will find differences in rhetoric and emphasis, but very little between them in terms of substance. Thatcher was remarkable for reversing that consensus.
UnitedBritannia 11 months ago
@patyo1994 Callaghan was actually more PERSONALLY popular than she was, so it wasn't just a personal vote against him, it was a rejection of his and the political establishments entire philosophy. I think it's difficult to speculate as to whether she would have won in '83 without the Falklands - I find it very difficult to believe that Foot would have romped home to any kind of substantial victory, I suspect it would have been a far closer election than many today now speculate.
UnitedBritannia 11 months ago
@UnitedBritannia If all that nonsense where true Thatcher wouldn't have been scared of proportional representation. A government should elected by the majority of the people, not the majority of groups of people. It's a ludicrous situation when someone can gain power even if less than 50% of voters actually voted for them. That's certainly not democracy in any form, and if their had been a fairer means of election this country would not now be bankrupted by corporate bailouts
MrBWRobinson 10 months ago
@UnitedBritannia i think the only thing for Britain is some sort of proportional representation go lib dems
MrBillcale 9 months ago
@MrBillcale Lib dems are a pointless party as the two main parties cover so much of the centre ground, but as a tory i would prefer P.R to A.V, that way it's not just libs who benefit but also other parties like greens and ukip, if we want an inclusive system then PR is better than AV making the lib dems king makers.
alexandertory 9 months ago
@UnitedBritannia ,what ,are you happy now
francis9787 7 months ago
That is absolute nonsense and you know it. Thatcher won 4.5 million more votes than Michael Foot, or 15% in vote shares. Boundaries had nothing to do with it. She won a landslide in seats and in the popular vote. And your last sentence is laughable. Labour always leaves office with unemployment higher than when it came in, and it always devalues the currency. The Tories' historical purpose is now to clean up the mess left behind by socialism
TheHayekian 1 year ago
@TheHayekian I didn't say she would have lost, dumbass. I said she won 20 more seats than she should have got. The whole reason she was able to ruin the country beyond repair was because of her large majorities.
ToaJoe 1 year ago
Pitiful insults. She didn't ruin this country she saved it, and saved Eastern Europe in this process. She inherited inflation at 15%, and already rising. She inherited a sclerotic economy with destroyed industry and baronial unions. She got inflation down to 3% and the 1980's witnessed the fastest economic growth since WW2. And she got large majorities because the people agreed with her and voted accordingly. Anyone with basic economics knowledge appreciates Mrs Thatcher saved us

But Thatcher convinced those to follow her, no questions asked. She is such an inspiration and we in the United States are approaching the point where we need "drastic surgery and bitter medicine" as she gave. You're right, all people in the free world should watch this.
